I found going cold turkey worked best. Though you can also start slowly by doing things like baking with substitues (applesauce for oil), and making sure you're using healthy oils and less of them. My kids love baked fries and roasted veggies - so no need for much if any oil.

Good luck!

All I can say is I love all of that type of food too. If you completely deprive yourself all at once, you may end up sabotaging your plans of healthy eating. Start with healthy oils like olive oil or cooking spray. Bake your meat, not fry. Use portion control. You can eat cheese but only use half of what you are used to. Or use nonfat cheese (although I find this really is yuck when melting it, it's very rubbery). You will find that by cutting down on the amount of this stuff, the food still tastes really good! My downfall is chocolate. So, instead of needing a chocolate bar everyday, I have hot chocolate at night and that has really satified my sweet tooth (for the most part, I still sneak a little something every now and again). Once you start tracking your calories, you will be amazed at how it becomes a game and you will start eliminating these things naturally because you want to win! Also, check out the recipes in the resource guide, they help you figure out how to prepare meats and veggies with out the fat. Good luck!

How do I transition to eating healthy foods when I am accustom to eating foods that are bad for me, such as fried chicken, greens saturated with veg. oil, lots of cheese, etc. This is the food I grew up on and I don't know how to prepare foods any other way. Any suggestions?
