MAN, that's tough. I've got my man trained pretty well. He makes a really good lasagne, and last night he even made a lower calorie version with spinach and diced Tomatoes and low-fat cottage cheese, and that high-fiber pasta for me. Then, he didn't pester me for only taking one slice. Good man!
My parents and siblings are not supportive at all. I don't understand why... with one diabetic, one pre-diabetic hypoglycemic, and another cancer survivor (uterine, caused by obesity)... YOU THINK THEY'D UNDERSTAND!!! I just chalk it up to them not understanding food the way I do, and find the least offensive thing on the menu, and brace myself for a couple meals of bland salads. (For the record, my dad the diabetic is great about what he eats, but wants to live vicariously thru the mouths of others.)
Last Friday, my sister (the pre-diabetic hypoglycemic) met me for lunch, and was having a low blood sugar episode while waiting for food. She had skipped breakfast, and was going on and on about needing complex carbs. So she orders a bowl of Loaded Baked Potato Soup. What? Have a glass of OJ now, and lets look for rice and beans on the menu and some vegetables - not a bowl of milkfat with bacon and sour cream on top!
Sorry, rant over. I kind of wish they would "get" it already... that the way I'm eating is the way we ALL should be eating.

They don't have ANTYHING on the menu you can eat? I am not familiar with the VFW's, so not sure. But even if they have a salad that's boring as all heck, you can sit there and eat it giving the guilty stare to him, right?
Or, you can eat the fried food, but get a to go container when the meal comes and put half of it in the box before dig in. That way you at least don't eat it all.
Or I know a lot of those places have a club sandwich or something. Or soup? Soups can be low cal.

| I think when I first started out on my journey my dh was trying to sabatoge my efforts, he liked me with meat, and I like me with meat too, as long as I felt good about it, but I didn't. When he'd suggest a restaurant, I'd suggest something else, that had something they could eat and a nice salad bar for me. If we did go somewhere they had only fried stuff, I'd eat only half and bring the other half home.

| Ladybug, I agree with Coach Dean. Suggest some new restaurants to go to where you can get healthier food. Also, have you sat down and had a good talk with your husband about this? I always complain about my body to my husband. He thinks I look great the way I am, but he also supports me because he knows I want to be better.

| Does he know you are trying to lose weight? You may have to being your on food. A lot of times, at fraternal organizations, they are willing to work with you. They may even have things their that are not on the menu (if they even have a menu). My VFW has cold cuts (not that they are really that good for you), I get sort of a chef's salad.

| If you have a subway that is a good place to eat. I go there all the time. If a restaurant has fish ask for it not to be fried.

Hi, L
Sounds like it might be a good idea for you to find some restaurants that have healthy items on the menu, and suggest that you go to one of them when you go out. People can get into the habit of going to the same old places all the time, and it helps to plan ahead when you want to try something different.
Hope this helps.

| I'm trying to lose weight and last night we went out to eat. I'm trying to stay away from fried foods. So I asked my husband where are we going and he said I don't know, but he kept on driving. We ended up at the VFW where everything is fried. The food is good, but I'm trying to avoid this. Any advice? He does this all the time!!!
