I read somewhere that if you want to lose weight before having a baby that it's best to do so approx. 6 months before you start trying! When I read that, I was immediately motivated to start getting rid of the extra weight I have gained over the recent years. So that's my goal - lose the extra weight and accomplish a regular exercise routine - so far so good!

                                                <td>I too am trying to have a second child.  My daughter is 4 and for a really long time we were going to have her be an only child.  Then our lives changed and we decided to have another.  I gained 35 pounds with my daughter and had pre-eclampsia as well as a C-Section with her.  I will have another C-Section with the second.  <BR><BR>One thing I keep in mind is that I am eating healther and creating healthier habits than I had before I got pregnant with my daughter.  So I am encouraged about that.  <BR><BR>This past May we lost a baby.  I am convinced that my weight had something to do with it so I have been on spark people and working with a dietician since.  I actually started going to the dietician the week before we lost the baby.  <BR><BR>I think more than our weight it has to do with the <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=stress">stress</a> in our lives.                                                 <td>Hello everyone!<BR>I started doing sparkpeople again 2 weeks ago because I want to try to get pregnant again in October.  I had lost all of my baby weight last year (and then some!)  but went on <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=vacation">vacation</a> right before the holidays, then the holidays happened...yadda, yadda, yadda...before I knew it I had gained 13 pounds back!  I love sparkpeople because I can see exactly how much I'm eating.  (I have a problem with calorie amnesia...I forget how much I've eaten.)  I would rather lose these last few pounds now than after the baby!  Good luck to all!  If I can do it, you can do it.  The biggest advice I can give is 3 things:<BR>1. Set small goals<BR>2. Keep track of what you eat<BR>3. Exercise regularly<BR>Keep up the good work!  Hopefully I'll get pregnant soon...I'll keep you posted.                                                 <td>Hi ladies!<BR><BR>I was about 180 prior to my son and I have to admit that I stopped looking at the scale after I went over 225 or so. The next time I weighed in was months after my son was born and I was at 238...yikes. I am 5'5" so I was basically as round as I was high! I had a TERRIBLE pregnancy...felt awful the whole time, gained WAY WAY too much weight, borderline diabetes, c-section after 36 hours of labour, etc. <BR><BR>Now I have lost a total of about 48 lbs since then and still have another 40 at least to go to get to 150 GW. My bf and I want to have a baby together but I have set the conditions of marriage (not doing it alone again thank you!) and weight loss to come first. <BR><BR>It is hard because I am 29 and I can definitely feel my clock ticking away so I would like it to all happen in the next year or so. <BR><BR>The bf says, "we will just get you skinny then get you pregnant!" haha I am terrified of gaining a lot of weight once I get pregnant again but my lifestyle is so different now that I think it should not be too much of a problem the next time around!<BR><BR>Good luck to you all. He talks about getting pregnant on the honey moon alot. He's pretty baby crazed. I am so excited about the idea of a 2nd baby. I learned some horrible habits. <BR><BR>So I'm hoping to break those habits before next year and have better luck getting pregnant. I don't want to be this weight and gain another 20 or so pounds from being prego. But I've been fighting it with everything I got. My main reason to lose weight and join Sparks was to have a baby. I'm 33 years old and I'm looking so forward to have a baby. I had wanted to have a baby before that but now know it isn't going to happen by that date! :)  I have been actively trying for 18 months.  I am not on any meds yet, nor is my doc concerened.  I had a breast reduction on 10/4/05 and he says that it is because of the trauma to my body.  I don't know why, but I am not believing him on that.  I have always and continue to have normal periods and have never even had an abnormal pap.  We have an appointment to have my husband checked first since it is the most inexpensive route.<BR>I know what you all mean about the question of "when are you going to have one?"  I never used to care and may have even asked people that, but now I just want to slap them.  The answer is what some of you say "when God wants me too."  Is there even a different answer?<BR>I want to be healthy too before and continue w/ the new knowledge I have gained about how much and what to eat. The gym I go to also has "Baby and Me" classes that I want to take while I am pregnant.  However, I just don't feel like I am that bad for weight, it sounds like alot, but at 5'7 and having a very muscular build, I am lucky to be very proportionate and I know MANY people who are larger than me and have no problems what so ever.                                                 <td>hi guys im in the same boat as all of you. i lost some weight since having my son then in the past few months I have gained. i know I want to have more children but I have alot of issues that I want to work out first. I plan on cutting down to 5 cigs a day and my goal is to quit alltogether by christmas. anyone else quiting smoking?

It's so important to me to be a healthy Mom not only during pregnancy, but also throughout our children's life. I too am trying to loose weight before getting pg. Or at least get healthier so I am on a good start before pregnancy. <BR>DH and I will be ttc starting in September! We were finally given the okay from the dr after our mc in May. So I will keep eating healthier and if I loose some weight before we get pg wonderful and if not, at least I'll have a healthy start and won't gain too much during pregnancy!<BR>Take care<BR>Kim

I am now focusing on getting out and getting some kind of exercise each day. Even if it is a 30 min walk in the mall. I bought a pedometer and that really puts it in perspective for me, it quantifies how much I am doing each day.

Today is me and my husband's 2nd anniversary and we want to start TTC about this time next year. I'm currently about 15 lbs over my goal weight, but more importantly, I have terrible eating and exercise habits.                                                 <td>I also get frustrated with people asking. I have a four year old son and everyone is asking when we're going to give him a sibling. My mother keeps telling me I can plan my pregnancey to give birth at a certain time. I don't have a close relationship with her so she has no idea what I'm going through. I don't want everyone to know. I blame myself for not being able to conceive and my husband thinks it's his fault. We just started having tests done by a fertility specialist. we go to see her in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping that we can have some answers soon. <BR><BR>What I really hate is that I want to be pregnant so badly that I keep making myself feel like I'm pregnant. I get nausious a week before my period is due because I want it so badly. then my period comes and I get disappointed all over again. I try not to focus on wanting to get pregnant but it's hard not to.

I am 30, and there is nothing more I want than to have a healthy baby for me and my husband, but it is so difficult for me, because I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.<BR>I did not until know I had it, until after having pegnancy in the tube and a miscarriage. I never thought I would have so much trouble having a baby. Last year i read the book the Perricone Prescription and was so motivated I lost 40lbs between may and Oct.  Well, christmas came around and i went back to my old self.                                                 <td>Great motivators!  I use most of those to help me along.  I am really trying to work hard now.  I just started to use the pre-pregnancy weight as a motivator and it has me moving more.  I've actually exercised two days in a row on purpose!  I started reading a book about <a href="http://babyfit.com">pregnancy</a> post a premature birth and it keeps repeating that being as healthy as possible really helps to lower risks during pregnancy, so that is what I want.  My time frame is to get pregnant in the next 1 1/2 years.  I will finish my masters in Aug 07, so I'm fair game anytime around there.

                                                <td>I'm in the same boat!  <BR><BR>I want to lose weight and because of some difficulties my husband is having, we have to wait at least 5 more months...maybe 9 months.  What a perfect time for me to get healthy and lose this weight!  <BR><BR>It's hard to have "before having a baby" be a motivator but I try!  Here is some food for thought...some of what I tell myself and what others tell me:<BR><BR>-Being a healthy weight optimizes the chance of conception.<BR>-To have one belly, not two when I'm pregnant<BR>-Maternity clothes will fit and look so much better when I have less fat on me.  Not to mention being able to have more choices for clothing and more clearance items to chose from!<BR>-Breastfeeding is easier when I'm not as heavy.  (I've been told this.)<BR>-Pregnancy weight is a little easier to lose if I don't have all these pounds of fat already on me!  <BR><BR>I wish all of us the best of luck!!

My hubby and I want to have our first child together, but want to lose weight first!  I gained most of my weight after losing my first baby to emergency cesearean at 6 mths.  Turns out I have an incompotent cervix. I work @ a Wa*Mart in the Deli and they put you where they need you so the hrs are not the same everyday and you don't have the same days off every week. In fact, I just came off a 6 straight day work week and I'm so tired today on my day off that I don't hve the energy to exercise. Plus I have to clean my house and do the laundry. <BR><BR>I know I need to find the time, but it isn't always easy..<BR><BR>I KNOW WE ALL CAN DO THIS!!!

My OB said everything is fine inside of me, but I don't think so. If seen heavier people than me get pregnat and carry the baby full term, so what's wrong w/me? What other tests can I have done that insurance covers? Why am I not regular?<BR><BR>This all makes me very depressed, but I have to go thru life not letting anyone see how much it bothers me.<BR><BR>I keep saying, "God will grant me a little one when he feels it's the right time."                                                 <td>I just went off the BCP and am trying to loose that few last pounds before Dec.  Thats are TTC start month.  My biggest challenge is consistency, everday is something different at work. I will have a good week get to the gym 4-5X and then the next week nothing due to late nights.  I am really trying to watch my eating (I have avoided the donuts this morning at the office - I hope I can hang in there.)  My thought is to be at the lowest weight possible so if I put on 30lbs during <a href="http://babyfit.com">pregnancy</a> it won't hurt as bad.  I will still be less that the biggest I have been.  I also have high <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=blood-pressure">blood pressure</a> so I am really hoping that will come down as well. I became so depressed that I wasn't getting pregnant that I put on almost twenty pounds. Weight is definately an issue. The more you weigh the more complications you can have for both you and your baby. It's a good idea to weight for awhile to conceive. This site is great and I know if we all stick to it we can do it. It will be a so much more enjoyable pregnancey if you are living healthy. Make this your lifestyle first. Once your confident that you can do this permantely and your doctor gives you o.k then I would start trying. I feel like this is permanent for me now. I'm not willing to endanger my life anymore. It's finally become about my health and not about being skinny. I know that because of this change in my mental attitude that is why I will succeed this time. I would prefer to be 175 before conceiving but I think I could have a healthy pregnancey at 200. Good luck to everyone in trying to achieve your goals. We can do this.<BR>Becky

                                                <td>Wow.  I am so glad that everyone has posted in this thread.  I am about 135 lbs above my ideal weight.  I am 29, and will turn 30 next month.  I want nothing more than to get pregnant right this very second, but I know that at my current weight, it would be difficult.  My husband is insistent that I lose weight before we try to have a baby.  I also have Polycystic Ovarian syndrome, which means it will be very difficult at this weight to get pregnant on my own too.  <BR><BR>I hate being overweight.  I know it would be a hard <a href="http://babyfit.com">pregnancy</a> like this.  But I also hate the thought of waiting any longer.  All of my friends are on their second babies, and I still don't even have one.  It's frustrating.

I would like to be healthier, as I am not even 30 and feel like I have the body of an 80 year old :(  I just really notice my weight all the time in my joints.  I also plan to become pregnant in the next year.  I gained very little weight during my last <a href="http://babyfit.com">pregnancy</a> because I had my son 3 1/2 months early.  I gained a lot of weight afterwards even though I was pumping milk.  Of course sitting in a chair at the hospital for three months didn't help.  Then I was at home for three more months sitting in a chair with him because he was on oxygen and I was very limited on where I could go, I had to be within 10 feet at all times.  I have been trying to lose the weight and not doing a very good job of it.  I go to my OB/GYN in Dec to discuss my next <a href="http://babyfit.com">pregnancy</a> and I want to go there with a healthier weight, so that I don't have to prolong the pregancy any longer.                                                 <td>Hi, I'm also trying to lose weight before having another baby.  I'm 27 and I already have a beautiful, wonderful little girl, Jacqueline, who's 6.  I feel terrible that she doesn't have a sibling close in age to play with, but at first money was tight so we held off on having more.  She'd been an unexpected surprise in my final year of college.  Eventually I came to realize that if we kept waiting until we had money, we might never have another baby.  But now it's my weight that worries me.  I was 215 when I became pregnant and put on 37lbs, then lost 50 while nursing (lucky me!).  The <a href="http://babyfit.com">pregnancy</a> and labour went well for me, and I just want to be healthy again next time.  However, we aren't really trying not to get pregnant, just letting nature do it's thing and hope for a surprise!  Anyway, I've rambled enough, good luck to all of you!!

                                                <td>DH and I would love to have more babies but there's no way I can have another weighing this much.  I had to have emergency c-sections for both (this tears me up as I am a natural birther at heart but not in body :( ) and the recovery has gotten worse each time.  I had pretty normal pregnancies, which shocked the doctors.  Apparantly I was supposed to have a whole slew of problems because of my weight.  The complications with birth were unrelated to my weight.  <BR><BR>I am one of those weird people who actually gains weigh when nursing.  After I had DD, I physically couldn't eat as it made me sick yet somehow managed to gain about 20lbs in the month after she was born (I was also busy chasing a two year old around at the time).  However I am still commited to nursing and I'm still nursing a 2 year old a lot and 4 year old on occasion as I believe in child led weaning.<BR><BR>I would like to lose at least a hundred before getting pregnant again, but I'm scared I'm <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=running">running</a> out of time.  It's just so hard.<BR><BR>I currently belong to a gym, which I have been going to for the past year, 4-6 days a week.  When my membership is up, I will be doing my <a href="/resource/videos.asp">workouts</a> at home because of financial constaints (I find they're more effective anyway).  I am eating within or below the limits Sparkpeople has set out for me and praying a lot!!

But then again, a friend of mine put on a lot of weight when she quit smoking, had her first baby, and dropped all of the weight and then some because the baby was so much work! Anyway, we're planning on trying to get pregnant this fall, but I want to be down to 145 at least before we start because I don't want to get stuck at this weight.                                                 <td>Just to pop in and say I ahve been on and off with Sparkpeople and finally signed up with <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=weight-watchers">weight watchers</a> just because I personally needed to be  held accountable and that weekly weigh in in person helped (though I still love the Sparkpeople website whichis way better than most of the WW web stuff) and my goal had been to lose weigh before concieveing... which I admit is a challenging goal -- it is hard to loseit when you know you are going to gain weight again soon... on purpose!<BR><BR>But I wanted to encourage you all to keep it up because I made my goal!  I started out at 180 and now weigh 146.  My goal was to get under 150.  We will be trying to get pregnant this month:)<BR><BR>My <a href="http://babyfit.com">pregnancy</a> goal is to keep my weight gain to under 30 pounds.                                                 <td>I don't know that I'd actually like a doula. They don't actually deliver babies. There just like a coach right? I think I'd just get irritated with someone else there. I just like my husband there. My mother wanted to be there but I said no way. The fewer people the better for my nerves. I'm a very private person. If midwives were allowed in Alberta I'd probably go that way. As it is they are not able to legally deliver babies here. I liked the setting of the room I was in it was very calming. I just needed to be able to focus my attention on something other than the pain. I have a low threshold for pain.

If you are truly serious about going natural next time you should really hire a Doula. I did and she was great to me. I probably would have taken an epidural if I didn't have her there. I didn't eat healthy and I didn't exercise so I gained seventy pounds.
