Mommysalami try putting sticky notes on your special food that you have ready for meals. I've done this so my kids know that I have this set aside for my meal. Just buy the cheap little yellow post it notes and stick it right on top of the container or trying putting your food in a plastic grocery bag and tieing it shut. My kids never take the time to untie the bag to see what is in it.
The sticky notes worked for me. I know what you are talking about too when you go the the frig to get your food you had set aside and its gone. It has happened to me too. I had been thinking all day about something I was having for supper, savoring the thought and it was GONE. Made me angry and I didn't want anything else to eat but what was gone.

Its a gradual process but it does happen. My family went from drinking whole milk, all the way down to skim. THAT was quite a challenge. I just took it down to 2% for a few months, and then a little more, and then here we are. I also find that if I have a container of ready to eat fruits and veggies, they will definitely eat it.
But they still need to stay out of my drawer! hehehe

| I hear ya! My kids love to do that too. It's because its different. I have now started letting them try it and if they like it then I just buy it instead of the "old" brand. EX- Tostidos chips makes a whole grain version and I was buying them for me and they all decided they liked them so now we just buy those instead of the regular. There are tons other things, but thats one example.

| My guy seems to be coming around too, but it is slow going, and he will only be learning from me. He knows that his habits are unhealthy, but doesn't really know what is healthy and what isn't. He has a little too much pride to sign up for something like this where he could learn, but now that I am reading labels, he does too, out of curiosity. They don't affect his habits yet, but he is reading, and has been buying less chips and things, in favor of granola bars. They aren't really much better, I think, but he sees them as a step, and that is good enough for me. He is also promising to make a real effort to eat and like more fruits and veggies. SO I don't know ...

| My family knows that I eat differently, but they are coming around, too. We ordered pizza one night, and I was making myself a bowl of fruit to fill up on before it got there. The kids said, can we have some, too? And even the 19-year-old who had come over for the pizza said he would like some, too. So when hubby came home the fresh delivered pizza was sitting on the stove untouched, and we were all watching a movie eating fruit.

I thought the very same thing. But is this all about just weight, or is our journey to be healthy also? Chips and soda are not good for anyone, weight issues or not. Have you asked your guy to healthy with you? If he wont, could you ask him to eat his "junk" food outside of the home?
Another suggestion is healthy alternatives to "junk". Such as, when we want chips, I buy the Ruffles Light. If we want Ice Cream, I buy Edys (dreyers in some areas) no sugar - it comes in the blue container. Its actaully VERY Yummy and even has fiber...add that to some diet root beer and you have a wonderful float. Or sugar free jello with fat free or sugar free cool whip. Well, you get the idea.
Just throwing out some suggestions. It takes time to get everyone on the same eating habits, but it does eventually happen!

| Thanks for the post, Sherri, as I am in the same position. I am the only one in our house that is overweight, and while I can control what my daughter eats to make sure she stays slim and healthy, I cannot control my guy who basically lives on chips and soda, despite my influence. So there is a mix of everything in the house ... and I am just one of those who has to deal.

I only buy healthy foods, so its not really a matter of special foods. Its food that I set aside for my lunches, other meals or recipes I have planned that I put in that STAY OUT OF drawer.
One thing I didnt mention, is that there are plenty of the chicken sausage in the freezer that they could cook up! They choose to take mine which are already to heat up! (which also I did make up some extra for them too, and they ate them!)

| I can only hope and pray that when I have a house full of healthy food AND junk food ... I pray that I have raised a daughter that will choose the healthy food. As it is, yesterday I gave my daughter, chicken, spiced rice, and mixed veggies for dinner. The veggies were gone before she even touched the rest! And I give her fruit and yogurt for breakfast. Sometimes I give her some apple jacks or other sweet cereal for a treat, and I am glad that she doesn't like it. That jusst means that she won't end up where I am ... too fat.

Hi Mommysalami,
I know how you feel. I have a 15yr old that eats me out of house and home. He is skinny and can eat anything he wants. I buy him junk food but for some reason mine gets eatten before the junk. I to got very frustrated at him but then I came to realize that I'm being selfish and needed to share my food with them too. So I agree with JO, buy extra healthy foods and put yours in the drawer and the rest for your sons.

| All I can say is that if your family likes what you are eating, and if it is healthy ... why keep them from it? Buy some of that for you, and put it away and tell them, you can can't have this. But part of the reason that your stuff is so irresistable is that it is FORBIDDEN. So buy extra, and put it in a drawer for them. Tell them, this is your drawer, you have the same stuff. Please make it last and do not eat mine, as I am eating it to make myself healthy for you. I will need you to remember so that you can help me. How old are they?

I have one drawer in my refridgerator which I call my own. The family knows this drawer is off limits.
Yesterday morning, I had three chicken sausages in there that I was saving for my breakfasts during the week. This morning, I do in my drawer...THEY ARE ALL GONE!
I have to say, I am so very angry. Im about to go on a grocery strike if these kids keep eating me out of house and home! HELP, and suggestions???
