My middle child (10 yrs) would only sleep 2-3 hours every other day since birth. I BEGGED her Dr. for help, he gave me the usual, bath, story, bedtime routine thing. NOTHING WORKED. My other 2 kids went to bed just fine (maybe some complaints but at least they slept.) This kid just wouldn't sleep.

I finally got him to send her to the sleep lab. She didn't sleep for them either. The Dr. there put her on melatonin and it has worked wonderfully. She now sleeps 6-8 hrs a night (and so do I!)

Bedtime is a routine around here and I've had very few problems with getting either of mine to sleep. It's hugs, kisses, and fives all around then it's off to bed. We try to do story time earlier in the evening because my son tends to want another and another and just one more otherwise, we've adjusted until we found what works for the us. We also let him know about 30 minutes in advance, then 15, then 5. He doesn't always like it and he may make some noise, but he has time to get what he wants done that way.

As far as your daughter DMULZER, is she cranky in the afternoons without a nap? Some kids need more sleep, some need less, my son quit taking a nap right around 2 while my daughter is 3 and still takes a 2-3 hour nap. Maybe she's just not tired. Can you push her nap back a couple of hours? Maybe play some soft music?

My daughter is 21 mos and just started struggling with naps. She fought us for hours yesterday. I know it will get better.

does she nap in the day? and what is her bed time?

my 3 year old had a hard time getting to sleep at bed time, our doctor told us to cut down his nap to one hour and put his bed time from 8:00 to 10:00. it worked really well, but we also discovered that we can cut his nap completly and he goes to bed at 8:00 just fine. on occasion he crashes at around 2 or 3 in the afternoon on the couch, we let him sleep for no more than 1 hour and just let him stay up an hour later that night. he sleeps easier and stays asleep better in the night. i hope this helps.
