I had to turn the fan on last night anyway, b/c the boys were complaining that the room was too hot. You know, he didn't wake up except one brief time last night. I wonder if the fan thing did it, or it was just a coincidence?

What a great idea!! I'll try it again tonight!

What about some white noise in his room? They have those machines with the sounds of waves, etc., or even something as simple as a fan can work or a radio w/ some light music on low may help, I also wake up easily to sudden noises like fireworks, thunder, police/fire sirens, etc., I will sometimes use something like this to help me sleep better when I am expecting those noises.

Thanks guys!
I'll try the walking him outside thing. He knows that it's firecrackers and that it's only outside, but he wants to go out there. I walk him to the window to show him, there's our car, there's the tree, there's the mailbox...all the familiar things he sees. But when they wake him up, none of that matters.

It's weird b/c I can run the vacuum...in his room while he sleeps and that doesn't bother him, but he wakes up from firecrackers several blocks away!

both of my boys are scared of thunder, we try to make it fun. when it is loud, my hubby and i make big deal how cool that sound was and that is soo neat. sometimes we laugh at it, and then they will start to laugh when it hits too.

I don't have that problem with fireworks. For me it's been thunder. I think my 4 yr old has slept through precisly 3 thunderstorms in 4 yrs (living in Tornado Alley - we get a lot). We just keep reminding him that he is safe inside.

Good luck!

with my boys, i walk him outside, (before bed) and show him that the 'noise'(i usually say what the noise is, like fireworks or thunder or even a motorcycle) is out here, then we go inside and shut and lock the door. i then tell him, we are inside, the 'noise' is still out there and since we have come in, closed and locked the door, the 'noise' can not come in here to us. we are safe in our house. if he still wakes up at night conserned about it, i just remind him that is out there and cannot hurt us while we are in here. you may even want to show him that the windo is closed and locked too. i hope this helps some. good luck.

Does anyone else still have kids waking up in the middle of the night freaking out about fireworks?

My 2 year old has trouble getting to sleep, and then staying asleep. Of course, even today, 7/8, we still have some ppl in the area shooting them off all night long, but they're not nearly as bad as they were.

How do I get him to understand they won't hurt him when he's inside, away from them, and that it's safe to sleep?
