| In a cafeteria, look around you for non-traditional measuring instruments. Are the glasses standard 8 oz glasses? How about the coffee mugs? Do the spoons hold about a teaspoon of liquid? You only need to figure it out once, and then use your new measuring instruments to see how much you are actually eating.

I think it is good to measure especially at first. After a while you get pretty good at eye balling certain things and you won't have to weigh or measure everytime. For me it is a lot of the reason I have been succesful so far

| maybe you can try making your own lunch. it may be cheaper, and you can measure out everything. just a thought.

My problem is I seldom prepare my own food. I usually take my lunch in the cafeteria or restaurant. Therefore, I would not know how much is a cup of broccoli, cauliflower and etc. Although I have loss a little bit of weigh in the first week ( this is my second week ), I do not know whether I have over estimate my portion of food.

| I'd measure things out for a while and then do it periodically. It's easy for serving sizes to grow over time.

| One neat thing I learned a while ago (before SP) is to measure my food for the first little while and measure everyhting. I was surprised to see just how much extra I was eating of things. After a while I got good at eyeballing it, but when things slowed down for me again it was time to go back to the measure.... its surprising just how sometimes we over estimate.

| for a while, you should measure everything. use the measuring cups, spoons, and even count out crackers. it is very important if you are trying to stay in your calorie range. it is too easy to over estimate at eat more than you think you are. after a while though, you know just by looking at it how much you put on your plate, or in you cup. for instance, i use to measure out one cup of milk when i wanted some, now i know how high on my cup one cup acctually is, so i don't need to measure it anymore. i know it is very tedious to measure and count out EVERYTHING, but is important if you really want to lose the weight. trust me, it's worth it. you will like the results. good luck and God Bless, kim

HI! I am new here. Regarding the serving size of the food, do we really need to measure the food we are taken using the measuring spoon, cup, scale? or we just need to estimate the amount?
