Way to go girls. Makes sense to me to just cut them out. I heard on tv one day that all diet foods have ingredients in them to keep you fat so you keep buying diet foods at very expensive prices. I am becoming a believer of that theory. Take Slim Fast for instance. No one can lose weight and eat that much sugar. They have reduced it now but still has a lot of carbs, sugar etc. Protein, fruit, veggies. Good diet foods. I mostly do that but still have a long way to go. hugs from grandmab in NC

Add me to the DO NOT DRINK catagory for aspertame. Took me a while to figure out, but those weekly migraines went away when I stopped drinking that stuff!

I used to buy a king size Snickers and a bottle of diet coke in the check-out. My dh would laugh and say "Why are you getting a diet Coke?" So I don't feel as guilty about the king size Snickers. "Why not just get a regular size Snickers and a regular Coke?" Oh, that's not as much fun!

I've recently cut them both out and I'm doing just fine!

These are interesting post. I still prefer not to drink chemicals of any kind and while we are on the subject. Have you noticed all fat people drink diet drinks and eat a candy bar with it. lol I have been guilty of that one too. It is like you feel that diet drink is a drug that will make you lose " Margarine and those diet spreads are not good for you. Eat butter or skip the grease all together. Ever think why we put butter on toast and then peanut butter. Hides the taste anyway and adds calories.
have a great day ladies.
good advice is never waisted ,lol

It's a diet powder drink. I think they have it already mixed too. It's like a diet alternative to Kool-Aid kind of.

I have always hated aspertame. Adding unwantedd checmicals into my body. But I have added other unwated checmicals.

I've done WW in past, and all the women would walk in with their DIet cokes. I flat out told them on many occasions. I HATE DIET DRINKS. and am more than willing to add the 3 points for 1 can of regular coke than to drink can after can of diet coke.

So many side effects not worth the risk in my book

I agree that it's really too difficult to tell with all of those conflicting studies out there. I drink diet soda occasionally, and I really like those Crystal Light To Go packs, and I've never noticed any kind of ill effects. I agree with the one who posted that different people have different reactions, and compared it to her little one's allergy to peanuts. Maybe those reactions are really allergic and not neccessarily symptomatic of the dangers of aspartame itself.

This is interesting. I have been reading about this and there are just as many report saying that aspartame is safe as there are saying that it is not. What do you believe? I do not want to turn in to a paraniod person, but it is kind of scary the things that they say. I have cut back drastically, one diet coke a day, and increased my water intake. My doctor has told me that if I drink a diet coke I need to drink at least 2- 8oz glasses of water to push the diet coke through.
I know that I will continue to work on getting diet coke out of my diet. :) Good luck to all in figuring this out...

Count me among the ones who get headaches from it. If I use a sweetener it is Splenda but I do not use much of it as I figure it has chemicals of some kind also. As I mentioned , I am an RN and most of the docs have decided diabetics should just eat 1/2 of a serving of pie etc. if they eat sweets. Safer and works the same. Sweeteners mess with the insulin problem just as sugar does. Body does not know the difference. I have low normal blood sugar and I sorta think that contributes to my reaction to sweeteners also. Sugar brings my levels up too quickly as does sweeteners. I can feel it. Especially if I eat it for breakfast. Hope this helps someone.

I have seen reports on aspartame some saying how good it is and some how bad, where the truth lies I'm not sure.
But I do know I suffer from migraine headaches and aspartame will cause me to have a headache that puts me in bed for 3 days. This is not the only thing that triggers headaches for me but one of the main ones. I know others who have trouble with headaches because of aspartame too.

I think it's just like everything else in that it effects different people in different ways. For most people, peanuts are a tasty snack, but they are deadly to my youngest. I do believe there's a very large number of people who are sensitive to the many chemicals and preservatives we are being bombarded with in our foods today and that the less we use of them, the happier our bodies will be.

Sorry but I disagree. I had leg pain so bad I had to use a Hoveround to do my housework. I stopped drinking diet coke and am now able to walk. I for one would not trust it. I think there are more studies going on. I told another lady about it and she is out of her wheelchair too. Just my opinion but I am 70 and am walking again. grandmab

Recent studies show that aspartame does not cause long term effects such as Lukemia, etc. Here is an article that may be of interest to you!
