When I was nursing - exercise meant walking the baby in the stroller.
The few times I made it to the gym for a good workout - ended up making me dehydrated and reducing my supply.
So don't excercise too vigorously - it can lead to a frustrating rest of the day for nursing.

I have a 6 month old that i just completly stop nursing after a month of weening. I did prodomant nursing for the first 3 months and when i went back to work i had to give him a bottle of formula once a day. If you can find time to pump and stay dedicated to incorporating that in your day, even if you give him a bottle it can be breast milk. I did that as well and it worked out fine until i stop pumping like i should. Also try to work your baby around your schedule, slowly it'll happen but it will happen. How long do you plan to nurse and what is your work schedule, and how often does your baby eat and how much? These are the questions you answer in order to get your baby on your schedule not the other way around. Also i'm a very busy mom check out my Topic under parenting and family Support called "Excercise? Who has time?! i'll help you with a schedule if you like. Good Luck and keep up the good work!

I honestly was never able to find the time. There was just too much to do, but I also had twins that weren't fond of sleeping.
I have to participate in a lot of conference calls at work and had a very quiet pump, so I would pump during the calls. No one ever knew!
And there are some grocery stores now where you can shop online and they'll either deliver the groceries to your house (it's a $10 charge here) or else you can pick them up in the store (for a $5 charge). That's been a good time saver for me during crazy weeks.

For me it's often a play it by ear kind of thing. Right now what works for me is I get up before my kids and do strength exercises. When they wake up I turn on BPM radio, stick the wee one in the doorway jumper and he jumps like a maniac while my three year old and I dance like maniacs for a half an hour or as long as they're entertained.
Hopefully this plus the preschool walking will start melting my babyfat. lol I haven't lost any weight yet but I have had more energy. Getting fitter slowly...we're not the only ones taking baby steps, eh?
Good luck!

I was thinking about this a lot - I had to go to part time because I could not handle the kids, working full time, nursing and the house. But my commute to work is also 45 minutes - 1 hour. You could do 15 minutes of cardio in the morning and 15 at night or during lunch break to get your 30 minutes in.
Also - for nursing at the daycare - I did that during my lunch breaks, it was great because I got to see her mid-day and I didn't have to pump. It also broke up my day and made it go faster too!
Good luck mama's!

I have been wondering how I am going to do all of this too. I am 28 weeks pregnant and have a 2 year old, and work full time. MY THOUGHT is that if I feed the baby at 4:30 AM, then workout for 30 minutes while dad was still home, then get showered, dressed, and get the kids ready before work. Mine are going to go to day care 4 days a week, and they are moving my office to across the street from the day care. I was thinking maybe I should just go there and feed the baby, and I wouldn't have to worry about pumping so much. But I don't know if I feel comfortable doing that, and then also have to make sure the 2 year old doesn't see me and want to go home. But getting up that early doesn't sound like fun either. We will see what happens. I guess I would try and get exercise in either before you get the kids up, or after they go to bed.

I know what you mean. I have a five month old and a three year old. One thing I have been trying is walking more with the baby while his sister is in preschool. I talked to other moms about it and I walked a few times by myself, but now there are a few of us and we have a great time walking. I can't say that I have lost any pounds thus far (3 weeks) but I have lost and inch off my gut and hips. Yay! Good luck!

| I am still nursing,,, I work part time now but her first few months I did work full time and it was TOUGH, and I never got exercise in... there just was not time enough in the day. I am thinking that maybe if you can squeeze in a 20 minute walk with the baby 3 times a week that might be good. The nursing will burn calories... Sorry I am not much help but I just remember being strapped for time and completely exhausted! Good luck mama.

I know that you aren't supposed to diet while nursing a baby, but I asked my DR and entered the calories and protien etc. that I need daily. So now that I am eating better, how do you find time to excersize and cook and grocery shop?!
I use my lunch break to go home to nurse the baby and my breaktime to pump.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
