my son was in day care (husband is now Mr Mom) and at only 6 mos of age they gave us stuff to sell. It was to raise money for the whole day care facility(has space for 3mos old to an actual kindergarten)for improved electronic equipment. while I see the importance, I have a hard time believing my son would benefit from it-- we already paid 220/week!!
Anyway, on a side note, JDRURY, I noticed your pic that supports organ donation-- very cool!! I am a certified requestor at my hospital.

Oh yes, it gets much worse, however some
of the causes get better.
We raised about $600 for our daughters band trip
to New York last year. Unfortunatley they have general fundraisers as well, so I am constantly peddling something.....
And of course after someone buys from you, they bring their own and you feel obligated to buy from them.
It is just a vicious circle.

Trust me, it only gets worse. In Kindergarden and 1st grade i just threw them away until he asked my why we don't do it. Then I decided to pick which ones we would do. Thankfully I only have one child in school, I think of the families that have 2,3 or 4 kids trying to do fundraisers..YIKES.

I just got notice that the DAY CARE my 2 year old goes to is going to do a fund raiser to help pay for the summer camp program. After it is all paid for, then the extra will help go and pay for the kids part, for the parents that can't pay for all of it. It's a MANDITORY $115 per kid for the summer, on top of his weekly tuition ($154 for 3 DAYS). Plus with #2 on it's way I have to pay the $85 to hold it's spot for Aug / Sept. At least they were nice enough they are going to pro-rate Jared's Summer camp and take out the 6 weeks I am going to take him out after I deliver. But this is bad to have to start this at 2!!!!

The ones I participate in pizza kits are for the 5th grade graduation class/party. Cookie dough for the PTC group (Parent thing that puts on Easter egg hunt/party, halloween party, end of year party) and now the fun run/walk to raise funds for equipement for the sports club.
The Karate is outside of the school and that goes to Rainbow Connection which grants wishes to kids with terminal illnesses.
I know they do a Morely candy one and the one with wrapping paper/card. Don't know what those ones go to but I don't do those.

| I would ask the school officials what they are doing with the money they have. My son attends a Christian school with very low tuition(about $2500/yr) and they do no fundraisers. The school is a ministry of the church(not a big church either), and they get by with nothing but Boxtops and Campbell's labels besides the support of the church. I am a public school teacher and I know he's getting a high-quality education. I also know how much waste is built into school budgets.(a lot !) So I would question whether and why all this fundraising is necessary. Maybe the school and the kids are involved in too much if all this fundraising is necessary. What are schools for anyway ? To entertain, provide a sports program, or to educate ?

I recieved a phone call last night and the Tupperware chairman wanted to know what to do with the check made out to the cancer society.
Oh brother! Now I know I have too much going on.

There are 4, 3rd grade classes in his school and only 25 kids were allowed in the sports club. The sad part is I know they let him in on the sports club because he is top seller for the pizza kits and cookie dough every year and are thinking he will bring in a lot of money for this donation. I told my son if people want to donate to this fine, but we are going for the Rainbow Connection one first. I feel it is the one that is more important.

I am so with you sister.
My daughter is in band and I swear they have a fundraiser every week.
We just did a raffle and Tupperware and now they are selling pizza kits.
People run when they see me coming too.
As much as I need to raise money for her trip next year, I have my own agenda.
We are participating in the Relay for Life and I am always trying to raise money for PKD. (polycystic kidney disease)
We never did kick-a-thin, but did a break-a-thon for karate. At least it is a good cause.

Why is it that schools need to have a billion fund raisers every year??? I usually only have my son participate in 2 of them (Little Ceasar pizza kits, and cookie dough) for both of them he sells over a thousand dollars worth.
Now we have Karate class and we have to do a kick-a-thon (has to do as many kicks in an hour as he can) to raise donations for Rainbow Connection (raises money to grant kids with terminal illnesses their wish) which is fine but at the same time he has another one through school raising donations for his sports club(newly created and joined) was supposed to be free but wala home comes a pledge sheet to raise money for activities (has to run/walk for 20 minutes). Both of these come RIGHT after the cookie dough orders.....People are going to start running the other way when they see me come.
