My 8 1/2 month old daughter was born at 34 wks, stayed in the NICU 3 weeks. She had IUGR, and I went into HELLP Syndrome, so, after a week in the hospital on Mag (which I hope to NEVER be on again in my life!), they did a C-section. She was 3#5oz. Now she's still very small, only 14lbs 11 oz on the 9th, but otherwise has been healthy. I'm worried about reflux and a couple of other things because we know she's at least a CF carrier, and they haven't done the expanded genetic test yet to be sure she's JUST a carrier... my neice has CF, and one in the family is enough... Anyway, the growth is definitely a concern, but mostly she seems to be doing great, although my mom is always finding something to point out MAY be a problem, to keep an eye on, etc :) It's a grandma thing, I guess LOL

My oldest son was born at 34 weeks - he weighed 4lbs, 15 oz. He was in the NICU for a week, then we were able to take him home. Today he is a very healthy little boy; he's actually bigger than a lot of kids his age! 4 days ago he turned 2 - I have no idea where the time went! We had our second son 6 weeks ago. I started having preterm labor around 33 weeks w/ him. The doctors were convinced that I would not be able to carry the pregnancy to term. I guess my son wanted to prove them wrong -he waited until the day after his due date to be born!

My first baby was born at 27 weeks. She spent 3 months in the hospital. She is now 19 & in her second year of college.

How things have changed in the world of preemie's since she was born! My youngest (6) was born a month early. She had some problems that required the NICU. I was so encouraged at all the progress that has been made! (Although we were VERY lucky with Angela, many babies back then weren't)

Looking back, it was such an educational experience. I am now in nursing school & my goal is to work in a level 3 NICU.

I have three children, ages 7, 4, and 12 months, and all three were born at about 34 weeks and were thus moderately premature. Two experienced respiratory distress, but they all had the typical preemie problems with blood sugar/feeding/apnea/bradycardia/jaundice/etc.

I had a lot of complications and around 20 weeks of bedrest with each pg. Two of them have heart defects (two septal defects, one pulmonic stenosis), all have a congenital blood condition, all have asthma/respiratory problems. However, they are all actually very healthy! My oldest son is in first grade, and he has his black belt in taekwondo! My younger son is in preschool, also in tkd.

My youngest, my only daughter, is the only child who has experienced a lot of developmental delays. Right around 9.5-10 months, she suddenly hit a development spurt. She's still delayed, but not as much. However, when she was about 6 months old, we were pretty worried because she was so far behind.

All are doing great at this point

My son was born at 36 weeks too and weighed 6lbs, 1oz. Everyone heard the weight and thought it was no big deal that he was born early, but he spent 3 weeks in the NICU with various preemie-type problems. He's five and healthy now, but still pretty small for his age.

My son was born at 36 weeks. He was 8 lbs 8 oz. It make not seem like he was a preemie but they stated they still considered him one since he was born before 40 weeks. He didn't gain weight for 6 months or if he did it wasn't that much. It was thought at one point that he might not live but today he's 37 pounds of pure 3 yr old. Boy, did he show all those doctors up.

Just thought I'd check and see if there were any other preemie parents out there. My son Drake was born at 30 weeks, we lost his twin at 29 weeks. He was in the NICU for just over a month and now at 13 months he's 25 lbs!! Nobody would ever guess he was to early.
How are the rest of them coming along? Let me see some then and now pictures! Here's mine...
