Hi Lauraann,

Sparkpeople has a really cool tool (in my opinion) that I'm not sure how many people are familiar with. In the Fitness Resource Center there is an exercise selector that recommends exercises that are best for certain areas of your body that you want to work on more than most. Just click on the area of the body that you wish to focus on. Here is the link for you to check it out!

Exercise Selector

I hope this helps get you started. Hang in there!

I second the library if you like tapes, I can go online where I live, and pull up just about any tape or book ever written, and one of the libraries from nw wisconsin has it, and then they send it to the library you want to pick it up from. Its been a great resource!

Another super thing you can do is clean! I clean our family business office 3 times a week. I thought I would see how many calories it burns on the fitness, cardio thingy, and it burns major calories! 1 hour of heavy cleaning burns almost 500 calories. Now I dont think its a big workout for getting fit at, but its burning calories. I still do my strength training and regular cardio. But I do add the cleaning into my count.
Are you using the fitness counter? That has easy little strength training stuff on it to do 3x's a week, or however often you choose to do them. They take a couple minutes each. It adds spark points too! I like spark points. WHy? I dunno. lol I like to see some pointage. It gets me nothing, but for some reason, seeing my points go up really helps me!

As far as cleaning, you dont have to clean an office... scrub your floor for 1/2 an hour, vaccuum, and then wash windows. Hey, what do you know? your house is clean too! Like I said before though, its not a regular routine exercise, but it does burn some calories.

Also, make sure to check out the fitness resource center. There are so many great workouts and exercises in there that you can do in your home on your own time. One of the things I use the most are my weights. You can invest in little dumbells (you can start at a small weight like 2lbs and build up). You don't have to spend a lot of money to get fit! I also lilke that all of the exercises that are listed have demos and clear written instructions to help prevent injury and doing the exercise wrong. Let me know if you have any questions!

Good luck,
Kelly

You might check out if your local library has other fitness videos/DVDs.

Hi,
Hand weights are always a good thing and you can pick them up pretty cheaply at places like Walmart and Play it Again Sports. Also, try garage sales. Sometimes you can pick up videos that way too. Taking the kids for a walk and pushing a stroller is great excercise when the weather is nice. I started walking with a neighbor in the evenings once my husband was home with the kids. It was a great way to have some adult, female conversations and we would two miles without even noticing it! Hope this helps.

HI,

I bought 2 kids fitness dvds so I can work out with my 3 1/2 year old at home. I also go to Curves 3-4 times a week and have some regular exercise videos too. I mostly use the videos when I can't make it to the gym, but my son loves our "play" time.

You could try the library - mine has videos. Also - there are fitness shows on TV so you could try for free or get ideas of exercises to incorporate into your own routine. Also don't underestimate all the exercise you get chasing your child and getting housework done.

Be well,
Alicia :)
