| I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! What your child needs is patience, understanding and 'real' teachers who are willing to teach your child as your child needs to learn. After all the IEP's, conferences, testing, picking of teachers, etc. We wound up going to due process twice (with no good coming of it) and I now home school our Son full time. It's a sad situation, when everything is suppose to be there for the children.

My son is going into 8th grade and I am stressed too. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that he's going back but everyday is a challenge. He was diagnosed with ADD and ODD when he was in 1st grade, was medicated til 3rd grade, and now we work with it. His district is the best in the area, however, they have no tolerance for his behavior, so any small slip up = huge consequences. Progressive discipline is not used with him, so that can be challenging. He knows that he can't slip up, so the demand for perfection does get frustrating for him.
While raising kids are stressful alone, adding special needs increase the levels. Just remember these times are temporary, it won't be bad forever. Make the most of it....Live, Love and Learn.

| In the school district that my children attend they do have specialized aides that stay inside the classroom with children with special needs. I would inquire if anything like this is available at your school. I agree if the school seems unwilling to help go straight to the school board.

Have you worked out an Individual Education Plan (IEP)?
This is a contract with you and the school on how to best work with your child. You should be allowed to bring anyone you want to the table. Here in Washington State we have attorneys just for such cases. Also, many people think the NAACP is just for people of color, but it is for anyone who is feeling they are being discriminated against. Hope this helps.

I don't have personal experience, but I definitely agree with MOTHEROFANGELS3. If you've already made attempts at the school level, and they're just not 'getting it', I would contact the school district office. It is their responsibility to meet the needs of these students, and you need to contact someone who can make sure these needs are met on a district wide level for your child, and any others that may not be receiving the education they deserve. Make sure you speak to someone who directly deals with special needs students and the district guidelines.

LDORICK you do have your work cut out for you. Since the schools admistrative staff is not capable of understanding your sons needs, even whith the assistance of a physician you then clearly need to go to the Head of the School District.
There are Federal Guidelines that must be followed to met the needs of all children in school. I would not play around at the school level anymore go to the District offices and my hopes are that you will get satisfaction and the help for your son.

I would personally get some kind of legal aid an bring them with me in a meeting with the teacher, principal, and even the school board if neccesary.
Because of the "No Child Left Behind" act, your son has the right to go to school and get the best education possible, no matter what special needs he may have. It is up to his school to meet those needs and it sounds as if they don't want to deal with it.
Maybe your son needs an aide to work with him one-on-one in the class to help keep him focused while the teacher is teaching. Or maybe the district can bus him to a school that can better meet his needs. Either way, you need to fight for your sons right to have his needs addressed by the school, and not just be treated as if he's nothing more than a nuisance to those at the school.

| My son is going into 6th grade this year. He is very intelligent but has ADHD and Tourette's. The school really doesn't understand(even after the Dr. sent them a letter explaining his condition) and constantly calls me to either meet with them, or come get him. It really is stressful. Especially when I drop him off everyday thinking "is this going to be a good day, or am I going to get a phone call?" Does anybody else go through this, or have any suggestions?
