How lucky that so many have such wonderful relationships with their in laws! Unfortunately, mine is the opposite. I do love and get along with the 2 BIL's and their families. Two have even worked for us (1 currently going on 11 years and one before she had children), which can be a sticky situation for sure. It is just my MIL and FIL that are truly thorns in my side.
It started from the beginning, because my DH was the caregiver and financial supporter. He gave big extravagant gifts, paid off credit cards, paid for vacations, etc. I stopped the money train in their view (which is so untrue because I am the conservative one).
My MIL told me one day that I was not going to heaven, and I was going to take her son and grandchildren with me (we are both the same religion, we just have not been regular church goers). She tells my daughter that she does not have to listen to me in her house. She told her that I was fat and sat on the couch watching TV all day.
When I was pregnant with our first, I almost had to be hospitalized. My MIL and FIL would show up all the time (completely unannounced) and when I couldn't physically make it to the family room, I would hear, "doesn't she know how rude it is to ignore guests?" She would scream at me that I was going to kill the baby if I put my arms over my head. Then after the baby was born, my MIL would show up every afternoon, just as the baby would go to sleep. She has obviously never heard that you don't wake a sleeping baby. I finally had to start riding around for 1-2 hours every after noon so she could sleep (this lasted for 4 months).
My FIL has not worked since we were married (he sued to get SS early, because he was "burnt out"). Now he just hangs around my husbands office full time stirring up trouble. He knows everything before I even do (with our business). He goes through the mail. He grills my husband on what we are doing at all times, then they show up to things that they weren't invited to.
It is truly miserable. My husband tunes out so much of what is said, or they do and say their worst when no one is around to hear. Ten long years and counting.
Sorry this was so long, but it feels good to finally get it off my chest.

| My inlaws are great! My two sister in laws were bridesmaids at my wedding and my mother in law is the greatest. They have always treated me like gold since the beginning. I just get a little annoyed that they depend on my husband for so many things (no father in picture, so my husband has always been the head of the family).

| I get along with my in-laws great. They live 3 hours away and I haven't talked to them in more than 5 years.

| my in-laws are great... but they live 11 hours away by car and there are no major airports nearby, so we don't see them often.

My in-laws are great! Only my FIL is still living.
|

| I get along really well with my in laws, my mother inlaw can be kind of controlling, but i have no problem telling her if she needs to back off... she seems ok with that.
|

| I get along with my father-in-law and his second wife. But my mother-in-law and sister-in-law still make me feel like an outsider after 22 years of marriage.

| I am very lucky to have great in-laws!

| i love my soon to be father in law he's such a sweety n i love him to death. he loves his new grandkids n is trying already to spoil em rotten i try n tell him to stop but like he hears me the big ol teddy bear. i have know my father in law since i was 10 yrs old he started out being like a brother figure then things changed when his son kissed n lets just say fire works went flying n that was all i needed to know that i was his for life n he was mine for life. now tom (my father inlaw) is loveing every minute of the fact that the crazy couple is back together n this time for good.

I WISH I could make it a week with them. I can usually last about 1 or 2 days. I guess I have a goal to work towards  .

| I luckily only have to deal with one in law and she drives me nuts! She was almost late for our wedding she is never on time for family events. And she is very moody when she is off of her medication.

I love both my inlaws dearly. They do help DH and I out more than my own family. However, my relationship with my in laws has had its ebbs and flows. My MIL shows favoritism for my two SDs over my 3 children I have had with their husband. I just don't get it-they are all her blood grandchildren. That has been a point of contention between us for awhile but she has since been working on it.
I think sometimes we expect more out of the inlaws and the inlaws expect more out of us than actual parents/children. Let's face it we grew up with our bio. family and they can drive us crazy but we have learned how to deal. Sometimes it can be harder to deal with the parents that came free with your spouse.

My mother in law * I started off rocky... spent about 8 years at eachother's throats or estranged. She did not see the kids for 5 yrs. It was ridiculous.
We get along now, though. I actually just had a miscarriage last week, and just went to check the mail and she sent me a card telling me she was thinking of me... which is so damn sweet. I was saddest about miscarrying this baby, because one of my biggest daydreams was being able to bring this baby to her, and have her hold my newborn without feelings of anger or resentment.
With my 1st, we began estrangement at 3 months of age... She did not see her again until she was 5. She didn't meet my other daughter until she was almost 3. I really looked forward to healing that with her... I know it is sort of stupid, but I just really did look forward to that.
My FIL... wqe used to get along great... but, now, he is cold and distant. When he found out I was pregnant this last time, he told my husband (and I heard it, because I was on speakerphone for the prego announcement) "Well...[long pause]... at least you guys have room for this one and can afford it..." He was NOT pleased. He said nothing else about it. I've been pretty miffed ever since.
The last two times we visited him, he payed NO attention to my kids & thought it would be okay to go drinking and leave my kids outside. He treats my husband like a business associate, and will leave him messages and say, "Hello, this is [insert first name]". Not, "Dad". We had a good 5 years when we got along with him... now, that we get along with his mom, his dad has nothing to do with us.

| I have a wonderful mother-in-law! We have a great relationship. I feel very lucky.

I LOVE My In-laws. I tease my dh that I wasn't looking for husband I was looking for a mother. I searched high and low before I found him and his mom. Every boy or man I met their moms it was some clash and I moved on til I met the right mom. One of thempost is correct you do marry the whole family.

| I LOVE my mother in law. I never met his father. He passed when hubby was a kid. But MY mom doesn't like my husband so we still have some issues.

| I get along wt them great but they live at over 400 miles from us...don't call MIL for advice though, neither do i call mom...hubby is also my best friend and so far i didn't have anything to figure out which couldn't have been handled by the 2 of us

| I get along great with my mother-in-law. I call her for advice just as often as I call my own mom. Both my husband and I don't get along so well with his father and stepmother. They are very distant, so we rarely communicate with them.

I get along fine with my inlaws. They are wonderful grandparents. My mil is a hard person to really, truly get to know, so even after 14 years of marriage, and 6 years of twice monthly family dinners at her house, I don't feel like we're really close, but we get along great, and occasionally do things together. She's a great model for me as I am a future mil to only daughters in law (like she is - dh has 2 brothers, I have 3 sons).
My brothers' wives, on the other hand, are awesome, and I consider them some of my best friends in the world. I am so thankful my bros had the good sense to marry such great ladies. I still have 2 unmarried siblings, and I hope they choose as wisely.

| When I had them, they made me miserable, now that I am not married they are still making my life a living hell. Recently taking my daughter, by legal means so that I can't see her again.

LOVE my in-laws! My DH has a very large family (11 siblings)and they are very close. Most of us live in the same town so we see each other often.
Especially Christmas and 4th of July, these are days full of family festivities - great gatherings!
Some my sister-in-laws are my close friends.
I married into the best family! I love them all!

| I get along with my father in law and his wife. I think they are just the best people ever. My mother in law, on the other hand, drives me crazy. She works for an airline and my husband is military so we just moved....again. Well, she likes to remind me that she can fly (for really cheap) to where ever we're stationed. I feel like she's threatening me with it.

| absolutely! In fact my MIL flew out here to help take care of the kids this week while I am recuperating from surgery. This is the 3rd time in as many months that she has come out to help. Without my in-laws I don't know WHAT I would do!

| Count your blessings and truly enjoy the love that the in-laws show you. I WISH I could feel that accepts ALL the time and not just when I follow their commands. Trust me you are all very lucky to feel that never ending love and accepts.

| My mother in law treats me like another daughter. Even when her son and I got divorced we remained friends with her and his sister. Now, we are back together with two children and my mother in law is happier than ever. I never kept my daughter away from her or my ex. Now she has another granddaughter and she is loving it.

| Well for the most part, my first inlaws, I never got along with. I think they always saw me as the one that took their baby away. But at the same token, my parents didn't like him either. My mom did everything she could to get me out of that marriage even though it wasn't a bad one. So, finally she won. Then I met #2. His parents were nice at first I thought we all got along until there was a medical issue and his father passed away and he and I had been having problems but suddenly he moved out. Told me my kids and I could not come to the wake or funeral at his families request. That was the topper for me. So I guess it was all just a game to them, but I am back with #1 the way it should have been, and actually the inlaws so to speak and I are getting along great!

GOOD TOPIC MY MOTHER IN LAW IS NEXT DOOR RIGHT NOT SPEAKING TO ME.SHE IS ALWAYS SCOLDING JUDGING MY 2 SONS 11 AND 14.IT ALWAYS HAPPENS IN CHURCH.I DONT THINK SHE HAS EVER REALLY CARED FOR ME IN OUR 17 YRS TOGETHER.I REALLY FEEL AND TRY TO SUPPORT MY WIFE.IT PUTS HER IN A VERY AKWARD SITUATION.I JUST TRY TO LAY LOW AND KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT.GOOD LUCK GOD BLESS

We get along...but there are a LOT of things I wish they'd taught and instilled in my DH while he was growing up that now I'm having to deal with...money managing/healthy food habits/going to church.
His mom told him when we were engaged & plannign the wedding "Just tell her what she wants to hear and then do what you want. Just like we do with your dad"
So...not a fan :) Quietly, by the way...no need in making a scene.

I actually get a long with my in-laws. This I see as a blessing, especially since they only live 1/4 mile down the road. My mother-in-law is a breed of her own but my father-in-law is the greatest human on the earth. He would give you the shirt off of his back, even if it was his last! I truly feel blessed they we get along so well. My husband picks on me and tells me that I am their fav daughter-in-law, he has 2 brothers, I do hope he is right!

| I Love My Inlaws! I call them Mom & Pop. I even share the same birth day with my mother in law. We chat a few times a week and I do my father in law's hair...even though we fight afterwards...he insists on paying me and insist that family does not charge family...then kiss and make up.

| I will put it this way--My husband insists that his mother "means" well, but just doesn't think before she speaks. I make myself physicaly sick at the thought of being with his family. THey are judmental and seeing to take joy in hurting me with their comments. It's been eight years and I still pray that is will get better each time they are around.

| My first mom in law was a bit uppity.(i will leave it at that) I never felt comfortable around her from the start,My new inlaws are just wonderful! "mom" is a bit nutty- she has her moments- if you make her mad she won't talk to you or send you all her junk emails she forwards.But if you don't make her mad- she is the best. I feel very comfy around them.I have the best sister too! Love them all very much!

| I absolutely love my in laws. My MIL has been there to help me and DH through our highs and lows in our marriage and now even watches our two children during the days for us. I am very grateful to have such a great relationship with my in laws and wouldn't change it for anything.

| my in laws are j witnesses. i am cathloic. they never excepted me or my sons because i would not convert. religon can destroy a relationship.

| I adore my inlaws! They are wonderful!

| DH and I are high school sweethearts so I feel like his mom is also my mom in a way. She had a stroke when we were 16, but still is able to drive, teach, and get around. My FIL is a bit nutty, but he loves us both so much. The feelings of irritation, and deep love are very similar to the ones I have toward my own family. But- we can count on them in times of need.

| I get along with my inlaws pretty well. I have no problems at all with my FIL. My MIL does show favorites with the grandchildren. I have 2 SDs, a son, and twin girls. She totally overlooks/ignores my son alot. In fact she wanted to take the SDs to the beach, my son can only go if I go on the beach trip also. I absolutely love my SIL but she lives several states away so I don't see her nearly enough.

| I get along pretty will with my in-laws. My MIL and I go shopping, talk on the phone almost every day. My FIL is a little snippy so I try not to bring up conversations very much. Overall, I can't complain!

MIL - soso, she's kind of self centered, but at least she's not mouthy about it! StepMIL NO, don't like her at all! 1st BIL, didn't like him, also very self centered, but he's no longer alive, took his own life 2 years ago, 2nd BIL I love him! I'm very close to him and his wife! Which has really helped me a lot, since my own brother and his wife live 1500 miles from here and I don't get to see them much!
We spend a LOT of time with hubby's oldest brother though! We take our summer vacations together and everything!!

I look at it as they are family and I get to deal with it the good, the bad and the ugly.

| I am very close with my soon-to-be-mother-in-law. Her and I are a lot alike, so we have many points of interest. We do almost everything together. I'm not close with my own mom, so it helps to have a strong female influence.

| I get along very well with my husbands family. Infact, his sisters tend to call our house daily and talk to me. It's kind of a running joke as when my husband answers the phone when one of his sisters calls he immediately says he will get me before they even start talking. My mother-in-law passed away Christmas '06 and my brother-in-law passed away Valentines Day '07.

| I'm happy for you...count your blessings and be so grateful. I, too, had a wonderful mother-in-law. She passed away way too young (56) nearly 6 years ago and I miss her so much! I wish my kids had their grandma...

| Love mine! Now, MIL does not speak English, so that may help, lol. I cannot imagine how I would have survived being a sahm for the first two or three years without her help. She and FIL were the only two dh and I trusted to watch our son.

| I have a very wonderful Mother in-law. I couldn't ask for a better one. She is a very sweet christian lady. I talk with her everyday. She lives in Michigan and I live in Georgia.
