| In the 3 weeks since I've starting my new way of eating, it can be a challenge to hit the recommended daily calorie goal. But as golfpro has said, having the right type of snacks will help out!

| Wow. Thanks for the help guys. I've been wondering about a lot of these things.

| Thanks for the advise. I guess that I always thought that the less calories I consumed the less weight that I put on. Great to learn something new everyday!

| I am still learning about all this proper eating, and cardio and weight training. I have ate badly for years. So this is all new to me.I just did not realize how calorie count is so important for proper weight loss. So I figured if I was close or even lower I would be ok.

Without trying to sound to redundant, this is what I posted below to the original poster.......
Good question, it's actually more important than most people realize. The calories count suggested by SparkPeople will allow for a max weight loss of 2 pounds per week. If you consistently go lower you risk unhealthy weight loss. You'll see people around the boards often refer to this as "starvation mode"
Essentially, your body thinks it's not getting enough to eat and will eventually start storing fat instead of consuming it. Your body needs energy from somewhere. And since it's storing the fat, it leaves muscle or other tissue for consumption. So you may lose weight, but certainly not the "right way", and in fact, a quite harmful way.

| How important is it to reach your calorie goal? Is in very unhealthy to be under the 2000 daily recommended?

Matt, I know what you are saying. It isn't hard to reach 1500 or even 1800 calories. One day at a time my friend, One day at a time. Pete Zirot

Pete...lol...I'm with you, I don't have too much problem reaching them. But my lower limit is 1500 calories and that's just not that much food!

I have all kinds of tips, and for $60 an hour I'll tell em all to you! hahaha, just kidding, they're free around here.
You'd be amazed how easy it is to reach your calorie range with just a few "tricks". One, keep a stash of almonds, peanuts, or some other nut. They're BIG in calories and have all kinds of healthy fat. Example, a small handful of dry roasted peanuts will run ya 200+ calories.
Another easy way to get there is with olive oil. When you have dinner cook your veggies or meat in a little olive oil. It has 120 calories per Tablespoon and is VERY healthy for you. Won't have the slightest impact on making you feel full, bBut will get your calories.
The Resource Center has all kinds of articles about healthy foods that can help you make your calories.

| Thank you for the help. I still don't reach my cal. intake everyday but i'm trying to get closer. My biggest problem is I don't snack to much. I eat most of my brek. lunch. dinner. and usually i'm full after each of those meals.

My weight used to yo-yo some, and I think it's because when I tried to lose weight, I would think I was "being good" if I practically starved myself. I lost weight, but when it was over, of course I gained it back again when I started eating for real again. Then I started sparkpeople, and it told me to eat 1800-2200 cal/day and I would lose weight. I didn't believe it. So I asked the same question you did, and got the same response from some sparkpeople experts. I trusted them and started to follow what the guide said to eat...and I still lost weight! I learned about metabolism and calories in vs calories out, etc. This stuff works. It was so cool to learn that it was actually better for me to be eating more!
Good luck to you.
Bob
