How do I help DH lose weight?

So I figured I would chime in again.

I recommend talking to him:
Does he want to lose weight?
What is he willing to do to lose weight?
What activities would he do to lose weight?
What are some measureable and/or verifiable goals to accomplish this?
What would be appropriate rewards for meeting the above goals?

Ultimately push the "he comes up with it, you go along with it" philosophy and you could help him lose weight without nagging. If he meets his goals encourage him, if he doesn't meet his goals, don't mention it.

Good Luck

WOW, sounds like myself up until reciently. I am a hospital courier, and do (sometimes) spend the better part of my day driving, so I can relate here.
My wife, bless her, has always subtly hinted at making better food choices while on the road, but we all know gas stations don't have much for "good for you" stuff. She was patient and helpful in helping me look for better choices for things I enjoyed eating.
The first thing I did was start packing fruits and veggies, rice cakes, trail mix, and such for snacking on while on the road.
Meals are a diffferent story, since it sounds like you have different eating times. I think the only thing you can really do is help him understand what are good choices, and you know pizza isn't all that bad in moderation, but it's also better when made yourself, as you know the ammount of what is going on it. Get some pre-made crusts, or I like to use burrito sized flour tortillas for a thin crust.
Things are starting to sink in for me, and it is a learning process, so don't expect overnight miracles.
With your help, he can do it.

Thanks. I agree, I do not want to enter nagging territory.

He has to decide for himself to do it. You risk entering into "nagging territory" if you push too much.

You could help him find healthy snacks to eat at work. Then stockpile huge amounts in his office, and/or car.

You could get his doc to put him on xenical, he either won't eat fatty foods, deal with embarrassment, or stop taking xenical.

You could develop a reward system, like how you train a puppy. I don't recommend punishments. But you have to watch out to stay out of nagging territory.

Ultimately it is up to him.

good luck

DH has decided he needs to lose weight (true). I'm an old hand at diets - after all, I'm a girl. I had great success w/ my SparkPoints diet, but I don't really see it working for DH. He isn't a computer guy, works in a job that at the moment has him driving around town all day getting irritated, and doesn't have a "feel" for what to eat. I can use the spark diets menu plan for him, but I would rather get a little insight on what has worked for the guys here - did you come into this knowing much about good foods vs. "bad" foods, portion control? DH tends to eat lots once a day, and has recently replaced his coca-cola habit with an OJ and milk (not together) habit. I told him he was going to have to start drinking water, that he couldn't drink nothing but juice, milk (and the occasional beer, but I am a firm believer in "treats") and he agreed to start walking the dogs - but then didn't want to get up in the am. Said next week. He's ready - how do I help? I work full time, but would love to help with the meals, encouragement. I asked him what he wanted to eat - suggested more veggies and fruit (not juice), but I think the real problem is a fairly high fat diet w/ a less than stellar exercise pattern.

I'll defend myself here - he has a tendency to work late, order pizza w/ everything and eat several pieces, for example. The dinner in the fridge gets eaten, eventually. This will be a work in progress and I want to get him set for success before it gets hard. (We'd walk the dogs together, but I'm not ready to leave the kids alone sleeping yet. We may get to the point where we all walk.) Thanks!
