We all know that Celery is a Zero calorie food, but a good mixed salad and lots of water will do the trick.

To feel full, sometimes I add some salad to my lunch or dinner. Salad has very few calories and a lot of bulk. However, if I just eat a giant salad I am still hungry. So I add it to a meal or have a giant salad and add a small meal to it. I use spray on dressing and I try to make sure I am getting enough fat in the meal by adding a LITTLE cheese or nuts.

Most greens will do the trick. Drinking water also helps if you're trying to fight off some hunger before a meal.

I have been bringing a bag of fruits and vegetables to work to snack on. Baby carrots and celery can go a long way for you.

Actually cereal can be a great filler. Something like Total. 2 Cups is quite a bit to power down late at night and it is 300 calories with Skim milk. It also gives you a multivitamins worth of good stuff to boot.

I've been eating lots of apples and bananas lately. They fill me up pretty well, and the calories are easy to work into an eating plan. I also eat a fair amount of fresh vegetables -- especially Tomatoes and summer squash, this time of year.

Any kind of vegetables. I usually eat a whole can of string beans as my vegetable for dinner.

My favs include pickles, caesar salad (light/no dressing), green beans, spinach. Also seafood is good if you like it - scallops are mostly water and packed with protein - you can over do them sure, but they fill me up when I need to feel full.

Good luck!

My go-to's are pickles (like 5 cals per, so eat the whole jar and you have no guilt) and any kind of greens. I buy mixed greens in the can and eat the crap out of them.

The real trick is making sure what you eat KEEPS you feeling full. You hear a lot of press on whole grain foods, fiber, etc. The benefits to whole grains are more than just 'it lowers cholesterol, etc' fiber stays in your digestive system much longer than non fibre, so you don't get hungry as quickly. Also a longer digestive cycle means it slow-releases energy into your system.

For instance, a Milky Way bar and a granola bar might have the same calories overall, but the granola bar has oats and grains and nuts in it, and will take longer to digest. With a milky way your body basically converts it to sugar in your blood, you get jacked up, then crash before burning it all, store half of it as fat, and feel hungry again. This is why it's called 'junk' food. The granola bar with all the roughage literally takes twice as long for your body to break down, so the energy into your system is steady and long-lasting.

This is just one example. It's pretty amazing if you pay attention and make some simple substitutions. Brown rice for instance is something that you get used to the taste of quickly, saves calories and above all doesn't store as fat as quickly as white rice. The grocery store has whole grain pastas, snacks like sun chips, nuts etc. The key is to get used to eating this stuff before you go cutting your portions back drastically. Take it one step at a time. If you fill your cabinet with healthy food and just leave the crap at the store, when you get the urge to snack, the worst you can do is stuff your face with a granola bar, not too bad.

Another dressing that goes very well with spinach salad topped with sliced strawberries is Raspberry Hazelnut vinaigrette dressing (w/ extra virgin olive oil). It's to die for!

All I do know is watch out for the cheese, I never knew the calories and fat added up so quick.

I hear ya about needing to get a lot of volume for low cals. I'm a huge fan of the "big salad", but the downfall can be the dressing...until I discovered the Hellman's spray-on dressing. There are several varieties and each has only about 15 caleries per 10 sprays...and unlike other no-fat-low-fat dressing, they actually TASTE like something.

My current fave is several cups of baby spinach, some sliced tomato (or strawberries, if they are in season) and one ounce of crumbled feta cheese. The saltiness of the feta adds a lot of satisfying flavour...and by the time you're finished chewing all that spinach, your tummy thinks you're full.

I've found that the lean cuisine pizzas are pretty filling. Throw in a small salad with vinegar as dressing and I'm set.

The hardest thing to learn is the difference between being hungry and just wanting to eat. Or at least it is for me.

If you can handle green leafy stuff then lots of them will give you vitamins and filling - watch the type of dressing you use. I like to get a super lean ground turkey and pretty much put it with any kind of veggies in the Crockpot or sauerkraut and a few red kidney beans - real filling and only good fats. Trial and error and keeping full of water are some other keys. Good luck!

Cabbage cooked with onions and Goya Ham Seasoning (adds no calories-but gives a terrific flavor)

Popcorn-air popped with a dash or two of butter flavored no-stick spray such as Pam or Mazola
