Mickey, "Message in a Bottle" kicks my butt every time. I have a hard time with any song that has repeating 8th or 16th notes like that. I miss one note and I can't get back on track.
I still love trying though!

Hey everyone, my name is Lisa and Im out recruiting some guys/girls for our biggest loser Winter addition challenge. There will be weekly challenges to try to help keep the motivation high, or atleast keep it in existence, and there is chat and a friendly competition with a bunch of other teams. Every week you will have to weigh in and give a cardio count for the week. Not only is this a weightloss competition, but also a cardio competition. I am looking for people that are determined to lose the weight, and a lot of it. Im looking for people that are going to exercise consistently too. Anyone interested please send me a sparkmail. We are looking to recruit a few more guys because the last round of this challenge, we only had one and he wants some more guys to join, and so do quite a few of the rest of us.
Thanks. Lisa.
oh...and I looooooove guitar hero!!! I haven't been blessed enough to play Rock Band yet, but this weekend I should be able to try it. :)

| I've had great luck with warranties. When i didn't buy the warranty on my son's PS2 it burned out 93 days later. I made them exchange it (That just made me mad) Since then I buy warranties and they hold up very well. And when they do break, I walk out with a new one that day.
|
|
|
|
Russ,
depending on where you buy it can certainly sell you an extended warranty. Circuit City and Best Buy sell those for just about everything they sell. Even Wal-Mart offered us a warranty on Rock Band

| On RB's forum, there are reports that the drums and guitar are breaking and apparently Harmonix is aware of a problem and are replacing at no cost (just the pain of having to contact them). Not all packages that were sold are affected, it was just a finite lot number that was. Luckily I have not experienced any of the symptoms as of yet. But we'll see.

| I think my wife would play it. She knows I have fun playing but the controllers confuse her. A guitar might just make her want to try it. Do they sell the guitars with extended warranties? I'm afraid my kids will trash it in the first week

He did sing backup once for John Denver. And the National Anthem at a Reds game. But he wasn't very good at some of the more modern RB songs. The ones he did know, however, were pretty interesting to watch.

Oh yeah....the Wii bowling is one of the funnest games ever made. When we live in California, our neighbors would be over and we'd all bowl for an hour or two. Then more neighbors would come over and we'd all play some GH. The bad part was that GH and 6+ people usually leads to plenty of drinking and having WAY too much fun!
I can only imagine what Rock Band would have been like if we were still in California with the same neighbors.

LOL Russ! He might be! I do enjoy the video games though. Love GH & Rockband! I didn't even want to play GH and my neighbor sort of made me and after I played 1 song, I was hooked. We did get PS2 and GH mainly because of me. Luckily I got the PS2 on a good store close out deal - can we say perfect timing?!?
I don't have much time to play them that often, which in a way is a good thing. You can lose a lot of time to playing them!

My wife will have nothing to do with gaming, but I work at a major electronics retailer, so I see everything first. Then, I work for the next few months to convince her that the kids really want it, then we get it for Christmas for them - and I play it.
We all have out methods, but yours seems a lot more efficient - LOL!
|
|

|
hahahaha....actually, it tends to start off by me saying something about how kool this new system looks. I check out all the specs and "drool" over it for a while. Then Denise finds out about a specific game or something and says how maybe we should get it. Then we go back and forth about getting it or not getting it. And eventually we buy it. The whole process tends to take about 1-2 days.
The only one I didn't have much to do with was the PS II. Denise played Guitar Hero at our neighbors and became addicted within one night. that quickly led to us purchasing a PS II and our copy of GH I.

I haven't had this much fun playing a game in years. Between GH and RB, I will have my hands full for a while.
RB has some great ideas and details to it that make it a ton more for than GH - and GH is a ton of fun in itself. RB is releasing songs every week to add on to the already impressive setlists.
A friend of mine and I are big fans of the show "Heroes" so we named our band "Greg and the Grunbergs" after of the actors. When we got to the venue that has a big lighted sign on stage, the sign had out band name on it - and our plane that we won had it on there as well.
If you are doing well on a song, listen for the crowd singing along with you. It is really cool on a slower song like "Creep" where we really noticed it.

I haven't beat any full levels yet. But I beat at least 1 song on easy, medium, and hard last night. The Hard is REALLY hard! Denise is havin a blast singin with the mic.

I just purchased XBox 360 for the sole reason of RockBand. Until a few months ago, I never owned a gaming system until I bought PS2 for GHII.
I'm a huge fan of RB since it is such a crowd pleasing party game.
I beat the easy level as a drummer last night. I'm still getting the feel for it, but i have yet to fail a song. We'll see how I do tonight when I try my first medium song.

I am far from a "gamer", as I probably only play our systems 1-2 days a week at most. However, we do own
1) Wii 2) XBox 360 3) XBox Original 4) Playstation II 5) GameCube 6) Nintendo DS (x2) 7) 2 Desktops & 3 Laptops
I know, sounds pathetic. But we all have some guilty pleasures.

Ken, I used to scoff at platform gaming since I had a top-end gaming PC, but I got sick of chasing the best video card for the latest games and moved to the Xbox 360. I still have a PC for gaming, but most of it is on the 360 and through Xbox Live.

I guess I'll actually have to plug in the guitar to check how it works. We plan on using the wireless one from Guitar Hero, but if we have guests over we'll need to use the one that came with it.
Thanks for the heads up!

It rally doesn't do anything to promote a more active lifestyle - LOL!
One thing I have read is that some people are having issues with the guitar and activating "overdrive" where it will either not activate at all or activate all by itself. EA is taking care of it by swapping out the guitar at no cost. There is no use taking it back to the store since the first run of guitars are likely to have the same issue from what I understand.
Hopefully, you will be OK, but just a heads up in case.

Maaannnnn.....we gave in today and bought Rock Band. It's AWESOME! I used to play drums as a kid and have missed it for years. While it's not "real", it is a lot of fun. Denise actually has funning singing, and an added bonus, the wireless guitar from Guitar Hero III works just fine with Rock Band.
I'm sure I'll be spending way too much time on this over the winter.

It is coming out for PS2 on December 18, so no need to buy a new system for just one game. The bundle will cost $159 and have a wireless guitar unlike the 360's wired one.
The set list is incredible and can be found here -

There are also additional song packs that you can download as well.

My cousin just introduced me ot Guitar Hero tonight at Thanksgiving dinner. We usually have a game of the newest Madden football after dinner every year, but he had just gotten the new GH. It was kinda hard to get the hang of, but very addictive. My wife even had fun with it, both playing and watching us make fools of ourselves. Unfortunately we don't own a game system at all, unless you count the old Super Nintendo in the basement somewhere. I may have to talk her into getting us something like that.

Yes, I have played it. In fact, I am ashamed to admit that we logged about 12 hours over the past 2 days playing it. My best friend's wife who is not a huge gamer actually asks to play it!
The guitars are the same as GH, but the drums are a little hard to grab at first, but do the tutorials and you will get it. Even the singing is easy. I am a horrible singer and even I had a good time and a reasonable amount of success with it.
We grabbed two copies when it came out - one for a friend who was working and couldn't get it and one for the kids for Christmas. Funny, but I can hardly wait for them to get a hold of it so I can play with them!

If anyone here doesn't play Guitar Hero - you really should. Even if you are not musical, it is a stupidly fun game, especially with a friend.
If you do play GH, then you really owe it to yourself to get Rock Band. It is from the original developers of GH - Harmonix - and it takes the concept to another level. You have up to 4 players that can play together on 2 guitars, drums, and even a singer. It has a great setlist of songs from classic rock to new stuff and they have already added more downloadable content on Xbox Live.
I know it is expensive at $170, but that includes the instruments and if you think about it, if it allows everyone to play it is worth it.
Pick it up if you can or play with a friend. I guarantee you will have a blast.
