one thing that i have found that works is to bargain with myself. if there's something that i really have a craving for, i tell myself that if i am still thinking about it and want it in half an hour, i can have it. that way, i use my lack of attention span to my advantage - 9 times out of 10 i have either completely forgotten about it or don't want it anymore. and if i still want it, i have a small portion of whatever it is, and move on with my life.

The biggest advice I can give is to get your mindset right at first. You have to be in the right thinking mode to be able to realize that a slip up is not failure. Then you have to work on one thing at a time. If you do too many things at once, you're mind will feel overwhelmed. Start out concentrating on diet/food intake. Make sure you are watching your calorie intake, and getting your water. Once you start getting that under control, then start to focus on the exercise. Get the cardio going, crank up some tunes that get ya moving. Add some strength training in eventually. Yes, there will be slip ups on the way, there always will. Remember, falling down is easy, getting back up is the hard part. You didn't gain the weight overnight, and it's not going to go away overnight. Just keep at it, and little by little it's gonna work out for you.

It is hard when you start out, and there are bumps along the way, but a misstep doesn't always mean failure. SP is about lifestyle changes and is not a diet plan. Make changes that will be with your forever and you will see progress.
Many here - including myself - struggle with temptations, but it is something that we can overcome. I have had good luck so far, but the last three weeks have been bad for me.
I plan on getting back on track the way I started - by eliminating bad choices until I know I can re-introduce those things in moderation while maintaining my control over the cravings.

Hi everyone,
I am having such a hard time. I have tried to diet so many times and failed each time. I want so badly to lose weight, but I fortitude just does not match my desire. How do you all avoid the temptations of eating foods that are not appropriate for you, and keeping the calorie intake down?
