yeah, putting the pieces back together is not being made any simpler by the fact that we are now lacking a starter and an everyday catcher. let's hope minaya pulls a couple rabbits out of hats somewhere, otherwise it's back to 2003...

Been a Met fan since I was kid and saw them play the World Series in '69. Still shattered by the "meltdown" and it's almost Thanksgiving.

man, that rockies-pads game was a classic. i think the rockies are a great story, and boy, do i hope they beat the phillies.

my sympathy goes out to padres fans as well - if it's any consolation, you have the clear cy young winner, a couple other very strong pitchers, and a nice young core of performers that should keep you strong going forward.

That's OK MM. By winning the NL Central, all my Cubs proved is that they were the smartest kids in the dumb class. I am not sure they are going anywhere, but I thought the same of the Cards last year and see where that got them.

thanks for the sympathy...god, that was just awful. i was watching the game with a buddy and we kept thinking we were stuck in a bad dream.

i think glavine has certainly pitched his last game as a met...el duque, mota, and lo duca are fairly certain to be gone as well. other than that, i hope someone can light a fire under reyes' a** in the offseason and get him to actually run out ground balls.

Mets fan here and I'm in just shock and awe at this huge meltdown. I remember going to the Mets/Phillies game about two weeks ago at Shea where the Phillies won by one in extra innings. Anyway, there were some crazy Phillies fans running around screaming about the win. All us Mets fans yelled back "6.5 games baback!: Fast forward to today and the Phillies are in and the Mets are out. Even after the Mets got a second chance with the Phillies losing on Saturday they couldn't take advantage. They deserve all the backlash they're going to get but unfortunately most of it will be directed at Willie Randolph which is unfair.

I feel bad for you. That's got to be painful. Almost as bad as watching your football team tank under a bad coach . . .like I am now. I'll raise a beer up for you out here.

seriously.

What an ending to the season. Too bad that former GM Steve Phillips had to be right at the All Star break that the Mets would not make the postseason.
