Actually, there are certain diabetic medications that have been tested and known for causing metabolism to slow down. It won't cause you to gain weight so to speak, but rather, make it more difficult to lose.
My mother had to try extra hard to get the weight off while on WW, but once she hit a certain point, her Dr. was able to take her off a particular brand of diabetic medication and the pounds just fell off after that. Either way, it's still about the eating, because trust me, my mother never left the couch while she was dropping weight. No exercise done there, at all.

Hey, Banks. Man, good luck with the VA! It seems like they should have to provide you with a doable exercise probram given your injuries.
Man, it's kinda ironic that the diabetes meds would actually have the side effect of possibly increasing your diabetes. Hope things start turning up for you. Keep us posted!

I have had problems with gout. When I get a flare up, I have to take indomethacen. Not only do you have to eat food with it, I am convinced that it slows my metabolism. I have no idea if this has been tested clincially, but is sure feels that way.
With regard to exercising, you really need to make sure that you're counting your calories consumed and burned as accurately as possible. Put EVERYTHING in the tracker. Also, there's some cardio you can do with just your arms (the goal being to get the heart rate up). Atheletes with leg injuries do "pedaling" with their arms.
Just out of curiosity, is all of your health care through the VA?

It's not what you eat (amount) so much as what you eat (substance).
The purpose of cardio is to get your heart rate up, so there may me exercises that are easier on the legs that you can do. Also, some routine with the legs may at least help them from degenrating any further. Weight loss will also ease the pressure on the lower joints. I'm sure you've been told all of this by your doctor, anyway. I'd definitely check with your doctor to see what kind of exercises they recommend. If you're cleared to work out, I'd also check with some trainers who are specialized in rehabilitation for people from leg injuries.
Good luck!

| I was wondering if anyone has problems losing weight while on medication? Reason i ask is because i am now on a diebatic med and i have gained weight even thought i am trying to diet and it is very hard, i cant really do much exercise because i am disabled from the military. Both knees and ankles are shot so it hurts to walk, bike and such. I cant even play with my kids cause of the pain sometimes and that really sucks, plus i cant work no more and evening going to the store with the wife hurts too. So what can i do to lose weight besides give up food....thanks for your advice.....
