I buzz my head pretty close. I used to shave it completely, but it's too much trouble to do with a razor. Now I just use the clippers with the lowest protection, and it takes about 5 minutes a week.

Hat is just about as important as socks in the winter..

I just use the electric clippers without a guard.. Shave it down once a week. I used to use disposable razors every day, but that gets old after a few months..

I like your sense of humor....we seem to match in that department.

I have quite the collection of funny, irreverent and wacky t shirts. My sister is disgusted by my OB-GYN Kenobi shirt....

I saw a man the other day his T shirt said "make America beautiful - get a haircut". He had a high and tight. I want to find a shirt like that.

Like a reverse scratch pad or something? I'm taking it a 5 day "shadow" is the way to go?

I guess I gotta stick with my 3/4 to 1 inch brillo pad for the afore mentioned reasons.

No, I don't think that it would work well at all. I would end up with lint all over my head.

Then neutral Kiwi and a buffing rag don't work too well, eh?

I like mine just long enough that a washcloth gets stuck when wiping it. Saves me a bundle in shampoo too.

So 3/4 to an inch of hair nicely groomed and rounded is right out, eh?

I can't go smooth since my melon really isn't the right shape for it - and my ears stick out a bit too much, I think.

Got to be fluffy or smooth. It's a tactile thing.

Sorry to intrude on your discussion guys, but just have to say that a smooth head is sexy, as is a nice head of hair, but a buzz cut is just an abomination.

Darn I spend 1 hour at a friends sons soccor game and what happens? I forgot my hat and burnt my head, now it's peeling

Don't forget to get a nice micro fleece cover for the winter months!

I could not take it anymore, my hair was 2 inches long and had to go. I took out the beard trimmer, removed the guard and off went the hair. I was going to let it grow for the winter but couldn't take it any longer.

I joked with ym wife about shaving my head and she joked about me sleeping on the couch until it grew back. So, I changed my thoughts on the whole thing

I had my barber hook me up witha number one and off I went. Glad I didn't go to skin - my melon just doesn't have the right shape.

I use clippers with no guard but have shaved it all the way off a few times. When I first clip it my friends daughter calls me fuzzy and wants to keep rubbing my head.

I'm going to seriously consider taking the melon to skin in September just to see how it looks or what happens. I have to have a "high and tight" for my annual training anyway so why not test things out?

I started cutting my hair short my senior year of high school(10 years ago) and I've been going shorter every time I cut it since. Now I'm down to just the clippers without a guard. I'm debating whether to just shave it completely, but I think my head is little too weird looking to go all out. Plus, right after I shave, it looks almost bald for a few days or so.

Been shaving my head for about 4yrs now......decided to speed up mother nature a bit. The "horse shoe" around the head is not for me. Funny thing is my Mach 3 blades seem to last longer now. Hmmmmm just how mush has mother nature taken naturaly?

Oh yeah......and as for hats, be careful. Don't want to get a nice tanned face and be wearing and oversized white yamika!

I've never shaved my head completely, but for the past 20 years have kept it at about the #1 guard on the clippers. I would like to shave it with a razor, but two things are stopping me. 1) My wife would probably kill me and 2) I have this knot on top of my head near the hairline in front. I think it might be a calcium deposit (it's about the size of a quarter). When I use the clippers it is noticeable, but would be even moreso if there were no hair at all.

My hair USED to be a good thing back in the day, but Uncle really frowns on long styles....guess he always has. I lost 3 years of fast growth in 9 seconds and had less than a quarter inch to start basic training.

never shaved my head. my hair is my only real good physical attribute (well, also my eyes) so I don't think I would ever shave it.

Not yet, but headed that way for the outside training for the rest of this month through Sept.

As fast as my hair grows, 3 days would probably be the max.

I think I'll go for all off, down to skin in September for my training in September. I almost bought one of those head shavers this weekend but may wait until I see what I'm going to look like without hair.

I do.

If it's only been a day or a day and a half since my last shave, I have a linear electric razor that does a decent job.

Any longer than that, and I have to go with the Gilette, which I find easier to do in the shower. It was difficult the first few times, without a mirror, but after a while it becomes second nature, and I can do my whole head and face without a mirror, and in about 5 minutes while showering.

So the SPF lotions *are* after shave! I knew there was something else to those products....

I'm actually looking forward to my buzz cut for annual training in September now. Don't think I'll go to skin but awfully close.

I'm from Rochester, NY. We are known for not really having any sun. However, on "sunnier" days, I wear a 4 SPF

If you're a firefighter, you serve all right, but fight a different kind of enemy and you deserve thanks too!

Indeed! Try a short and stubbly head of hair with an 8 pound kevlar helmet on it and you'll ALWAYS remember to keep things covered up.

OUCH!!! Yep, I feel your pain. I liberally apply sunscreen to my gourd before I go out. SPF 40-50 works. I also wear a hat. (that much sunscreen and you begin to blind satellites....) If I forget, mother nature will give me a painful reminder. In that case I use a lot of noxema or lidocaine and aloe vera gel. prevention is a hell of a lot less painful than treatment.

Do you have any fears of sunburning your melon at all? I had a seriously high and tight haircut when I went to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin and got my head sunburned pretty badly the second day out. PAINFUL!

No ritual, no shaving. Genetics are keeping me in the cueball club. I've been losing my hair since I was 18 and didn't feel the need to fight it. just one less thing to worry about...too bad hair loss doesnt count as weight loss....

I've been shaving my head for a few years now. I can't say I have a ritual though. I just prep up and shave. Usually once a week.

When my boss was diagnosed with a leukemia realted cancer some years back I offered to shave my head until he got through it but he wanted me to grow it, get it long and give it to him so he could make a wig out of it!

Greetings,
Some years ago, a lady friend of mine was diagnosed with brest cancer. During Kemo therapy, as we thought, her hair started falling out. It was almost blowing in front of her as we walked. We used to have dinner 2 to 3 times a week at either her palce or mine. Being the regular (according to my fiance) guy kinda pig, you arn't gonna get much sympathy from me. I told her that we would have dinner at my place the next night.
My hair was about shoulder length and after 3 martinies, it was what the clippers left. Whe she came to dinner I instructed her that we would eat when her head looked like mine. It was gonna fall out anyhow. Long story short, she did and to this day she is fine 6 years later. From that point on my hair has never been longer than a #7.
I thought that being bald would be low maintnance. When I shaved my face, I just lathered up the entire head and went to town. I use the Turbo Mach 5. The scalp is toughter than the face and you are less likly to cut your head than your face BUT..... it is not low maintnance. to keep the look, this will need to be done every few days.

Well.....no. But that was a good segway!

Comes from my paintballing days in Germany and the nickname my German friends gave me as they were walking off the field with my paint on them while the rest of us kept playing.

I think a guy has to have the right head shape for that action. My head is shaped like a watermelon that fell off the truck and bounced on the concrete a half dozen times.

I've buzzed it really low (about as low as you can go) for the summer but I've never really shaved it all off. Maybe I should try it one day to see how it looks and feels.

I wrap my head in a hot towel until it's cool, then massage in a pre shave oil, throw on some shave cream (NOT GEL!) and go to town with a Mach 3.
Afterwards I rinse with cool water to tense up the skin and close the pores and then use a non-alcohol aftershave gel. Alcohol dries the skin.
Best of luck. Go slow the first few times to avoids nicks and cuts!!
ALWAYS throw out razors when they get dull. I usually get 3-4 shaves out of them
