I'm liking my small local brewery more and more nowadays. Up here we have a lot of smaller craft brewers that do small batches. I had a Barley wine on Sunday that was just plain good. I had to just sit and savor that one. 9% alcohol content wasn't bad either.
I drink a beer every now and then and really only on my throwaway days so I don't check my calorie counts for beer. I know I'll be running it off the next day anyway.

| Anyone from around MA? Ever try the Salem Beerworks/Boston Beerworks Watermelon Beer? Or Blueberry Beer? OH SO GOOD! Watermelon is only around for Summer tho, sucks!

| I'm a small brewery fan. Currently I have some Jack Russell English Ale straight from the brewery in the fridge. So fresh you can taste the Cascade hops in it and twice as strong as the regular commercial things people drink.

ROB2006, Good recommendation on St. Bernadus Abt 12, a very good quadrupel. I tried that at the Globe in Athens, GA along with Unibroue's (Canada) Don de Dieu. Hmmmm. I had a tasting at my house a couple of weeks ago and tried the McChouffe Artisanal Belgian Brown Ale. Not sure if it was that particular bottle or night but I didn't really like it. I do have a bottle of McChouffe Golden Ale that I haven't tried yet. Ahhhhh, Bud Light fans don't know what they are missing.
| Bud Light. That's like a swear word when you homebrew. I figure if I'm gonna need to burn these beer calories off, it might as well be good beer.

| I'm very impressed that none of you boys have mentioned BUD LIGHT. It gives me a headache. Red Stripes are okay. I'm getting to where I like beer better than wine and you all have given me good ideas for when I finally do have one again.

| Alagassh is good to. As for Belgians try "St. Bernadus 12" or a La Chouffe.
| I have 1 bottle each of Chimay Red, Blue, and White in my fridge that I bought a couple of weeks ago along with a Chimay glass. Looking forward to trying it. If you guys like Belgians have you tried any of the stuff from Brewery Ommegang out of Cooperstown, NY or Allagash Brewing Company out of Portland, Maine? Belgian beer brewed in America! Good stuff!
Mmmmm, Belgian Beer!
Chimay is very good beer. And if you homebrew, you can use the yeast at the bottom of the bottle to start a new batch. It's just the beer that keeps on giving. That reminds me: I've got to brew a batch soon and start practicing for next year's state beer making competition.
Now that I'm older, I find myself drinking fat tire, and better beers because I want to taste it instead of just drink it.
| If you want to try a different beer try a Chimay. It is a Belgian Beer made by the Trappist monks. Very good.

| I would also just like to mention that over the weekend I got adventurous and picked up a six-pack of that Miller "Chill" stuff (light beer with lime & salt? :P ) and it's seriously one of the nastiest beers I've ever had. Avoid it like the plague :P

My first post in a long time, trying to get back on track......but, I LOVE BEER! Have any of you guys tried Old Chub? Scottish Ale in a CAN! Have no idea of the calories but it is soooo good when poured into a pint glass. I've been on a craft-beer kick the last year and a half. A few of my favorites that "I've discovered" are: Three Philosophers, Ommegang Abbey Ale, Dale's Pale Ale (in a can!), Allagash Tripel Reserve, Avery Salvation, the list goes on and on. We can enjoy beer and still lose weight, the key will have to be moderation. (This is more for me than anyone else 'cause I've been drinking like a madman of late) For you guys who love beer, I mean really love "good" beer, check out this website www.beeradvocate.com Prost!

Yeah the local brewpub has a vanilla version as well, an ale I think - but it's actually sweet to the point of being gross (almost everyone I know has gotten tempted to try it, and then gotten disgusted by it). They have a Scottish ale that's just amazing though :)

| just tried a new one last night- breckinridge (sp?) brewery's vanilla porter. it was really good but a little too sweet, so i had the bartender splash some arrogant bastard in it- wow!
| years ago, i went to a brewpub in minneapolis. they brewed an oatmeal stout that the owner told me was 700+ calories per pint. wow! i had a nice young's double chocolate stout floated on top of a double hopped ale last night, yum!!!!!!!

| Yeah, unfortunately most beers are around 200-ish calories for a 12oz serving (bumps up if you drink by the pint, of course), unless you get that "light" stuff that tastes like water with a slight beer aftertaste to it - so you have to be careful with the stuff, and drinking more than one a day is pretty much out the window now...

It could be worse. It could be 208 calories of Bud Light!
At least Boddington's has flavor in its favor.
Also, remember that it is a 16 ounce can instead of a 12 ounce can.

| 208 holy poop. I used to buy a case of it for 42 dollars, the problem was I liked it so much that I would finish a case in 3 days. Now I buy 4 packs but that is even 8 or 9 dollars.

I have been telling people about Boddington's for years and now many of my friends are big fans.
I keep it around as a rare treat, and it could be worse for you, but if I am going to treat myself - it is going to be a treat.
Just 208 calories per can.

My favorite stout & porter so far are from a small brewery in England called St Peters. Stuff is a bit expensive at about $4/bottle, but man is it good.

Is it anything like MacEwan's Scotch Ale or Old Peculiar? God I love that stuff. I love dark beers, mainly Stouts and Porters. If you can see through it, it ain't beer! Guinness, MacEwan's, and Summitt Great Northern Porter are some of my favorites.

| I can't find anything on it specifically, but I'd guestimate you're probably looking at close to 200 cals per 12oz bottle - for example a Sam Adams has 170, and it sounds like it's not as heavy of a beer as the one you're looking at.

Does anyone know how many calories are in a 12 oz. bottle of EKU 28?
This stuff is thick, sweet, about 11% alcohol, and oooooh sooo good.
Thanks
