Good luck! Take some introductory classes at various dojos, see if you like it. Different dojos have different approaches. When evaluating a dojo, look into who the sensei is, see if he competes on a frequent basis. Also, when going to a class, make sure that they do plenty of freeform rolling, which is where you actually get practice with your skills.

My sensei doesn't compete as much as he used to, but a lot of the guys in the dojo compete, and there are a lot of cops as well. It's a good dojo, but rough. Everyone tends to get injured pretty often.

I've been training in BJJ for a few months so far. It's fascinating, although I have broken my rib at one point, and I have bruises all over. Anyway, a good resources to find a dojo is http://www.jiu-jitsu.net/cgi-bin/addacad.pl

Also, check bullshido.net forums to make sure that you're not joining a mediocre dojo.

I know there are a few people around here that do train in it. I train in TaeKwonDo and Mixed Martial Arts.
