25 dumbbells are the only I can afford, but I love having the around - comfortable for most exercises, shoulder and biceps.

I'm just starting but I have gone from 8 to 15. I've been a little bit in the slacking department so my reps went down a tad. Guess I gotta hit the bricks (or weights)

Mine fit in a boot sized shoe box, but winter driving to get to the gym was my excuse...oops another thread.

Twenty five is my limit, too. I add more metal plates, to boost it up to the high priced sets. A grinder and scrap metal

i've worked my way through the speedpac dumbbells, pretty much - they go up to 25 lbs, and i use that at least for most of my exercises. where did you all get the heavier ones?

Part of the fun for me is to run up the plates until I reach the point of failure, then dropping a plate and squeezing out a few more. I repeat until the plates are gone or at least nearly so.

I have a pair of adjustables (go up to 16.5 kg/36 lb). For each exercise the weight varies depending (point of failure on the last rep).

My wife liked my Reebok DBs so we bought the lighter set, also.

I have the Power Blocks. They are adjustable in 5lb increments up to 45 for the basic kit. You can add up to 100 lbs if I remember correctly.

I like them because they dont take up allot of room.

There were two types available, a single that meant that you would have to buy two. and a lighter pair that came as a set. Both were $60. I wanted heavier weights, so I picked up the two singles for $120. The other brands that I had looked at before were in the $250 range or higher.

DEVANSO, how much did the Reebok weights run?

Bowflex just released a new version of the Selectech dumbbells that go up to 90 pounds but they are super expensive. The dumbbells alone are $599.00!

The adjustable weights work very well. The plastic pin guide has me nervous. I don't know how durable it will be.

Thank you chefchief, I'm now a happy owner of a pair of Target Reebok 50# adjustable dumbells.

I workout with the Bowflex Selectech dumbbells that go up to 52.5 lbs. I love them because they are so easy to use and perfect for home use. They are pretty expensive though.

i have the ones that go up to 25, and they're not bad at all. i need something a bit heavier for bench presses and some other stuff, but my shoulders are still quite weak (old injury plus years of inertia) and so lifting 15 on each side is more than OK with me. just start where you are at and slowly work up from there.

I have three sets of DB at the house. 30, 35, and 45. I use the 45's for presses, and I use the 30 and 35 for curls. They're really older DB's though, I've had them for over 15 years. I used to sit and watch TV and do curls when I was in high school.

Solid weight dumbells. The gym I use has a full rack in 5 lb. increments. Instant weight depends on the exercise.

It really depends on the exercise and how I am training at that moment. For example, sometimes I go with high weight and low reps and sometimes I go with light weight and high reps. Those adjustable dumbbells that go up to 25 lbs. would be great if you are just starting out but I believe you would outgrow them very quickly.

That depends on the exercise. My max is about 60 lbs for dumb bell bench presses and maybe 50s for shoulder presses. But I also use 15 lbs. for shoulder raises. Just remember lift what you can safely control. I like solid weights more than adjustables because I hate them shifting.

On the west coast there is a set at Big 5 that's pretty decent. Or you can find some solid weights at Wal Mart that are easier.

Of all places target has a nice set of dumbells...They cost around 29.00 for the set that goes up to 25 pounds to 45.00 which I think hits 50 pounds... They have a slide mechanism where you add/remove weight as needed.

I prefer the old fashioned multiple weights..I have poundages ranging from 2 to 45. When i do cardio I sometimes pump my arms with the 2 pounders.

When I do chest flys i may use 5 pounds or up to 25..depends on how bad my carpal tunnel and tendonitis are acting up.

When I do bent over rows i use the 45 pounders...getting ready for more weight with these.

Hope this helps

Paul,

It really depends on your strength. The best thing is to visit your local sporting goods store and feel out which ones will give you the best work out.

Hey guys,

I was wondering what dumbbell weight everybody uses. I wanted to go ahead and pick up some adjustable dumbbells but the ones I want only go up to 25 total over both arms which I think sounds pretty light. If I bought regular dumbbells but only one size, what should that be?
