I believe Kobe's image took a hard hit with the rape alegation and the recent elbow throwing fouls and suspension, he always was shelfish, that was the argument with Shaq, remember? Kobe is not the all american image no longer so anything he does is now terrible.
I liven in Chicago during the Bulls championships and I don't remember Luke Longle scoring many points, or Horace Grant, or a few others, it was always MJ, Pipen and every so often another player will be good for 10 points or so.
lets face it, the Lakers are Kobe's team, just like Lebron James is Cleveland, Shaq is Miami and so on...
for those team to be successfull every play has to go thru the team's best player.

yea but those three players you just said, had other teammates around them that could score at anytime, which made them more dangerous. Next time you watch a laker game, watch how many times kobe has the ball in his hands.

I am not sure I agree with saying that player nowdays are ballhugging and selfish and all that, good players (or players who think can make a diference in any game) want the ball, remember Sterling Sharp, Keshawn Jonhson and Michael Jordan? I would think that Will Chambelain had to have the ball for a good amount of time for him to score 100 points in a game. Are the players nowdays more like primadonas? yes, I will give you that, on just about any sport you find primadonas and that is a shame.

Going back to the original comment, basketball and baseball season are so long that for me if I catch the last month or so and the playoffs I am ok, do not get to watch a lot of TV nowdays since I am working out so I don't try to spend a lot of time in front of the tv.

basketball isnt a sport anymore, the new players are nothing but a bunch of ball hogging, fame hungry morons. I would rather take a Larry Bird or a Magic Johnson then Kobe or Lebron anyday

No, we're around. I'm still in football mode since my team just lost its offensive and defensive coordinators to head coaching jobs. Not cool.

Anyway, I'm a old school Laker fan. Not happy to see Melo not making the trip but not completely surprised. David Stern not that smart a guy.

Not a huge BBall fan but I wonder if Carmelo being snubbed is similar to the Michael Irvin character discussion in the football thread.

If 'Melo was out for 30 days with an injury instead of for sucker punching some guy, do you think he'd be an All-Star? I'd say he would, without a doubt.

Stern is so worried about the player's "thug" image that I wouldn't be suprised if he personally had something to do with the snub.

Now that football is all said and done...baseball hasn't even started yet...let's talk some basketball...we have the all-star game coming up a week or so...i don't know about you guys...but what's up with Carmelo being left out of it...I mean he IS the leading scorer last time I checked...and how is it possible that the reigning 2 time MVP doesn't even get voted in the starting lineup...?
