| Sounds great. Next time let me know and I will fly over and help you get rid of it faster so you won't be stuck with all of the cals. Just joking. I haven't had fried chicken in forever it seems like. This weekend I am going to try and get some more salmon and smoke it up. Nice thing about that is that my wife doesn't like salmon so I get all of it! YEAH!
| I don't go over very often if at all. My wife is such a great cook, she made fried chicken last night, and it is so hard to stop eating it once you start. But I did, with not as much damage as I thought. In fact no damage at all. I was suprised. Jim

So I guess you didn't have your leftover soup last night. I have those days. My wife and I ate at Sweet Tomatoes the other night and I went over. Too many great choices there for dinner. I didn't go over too much, but still did. As long as we don't make a habit of eatting like that all of the time, I think that is alright to blow a day here and there.

Good Morning BooDaddy: Sounds to me like you are doing well with your progress. As for myself, I ate like a little pig for dinner last night and did not peddle my bike at all yesterday, but when I scaled myself this morning I was down another 1.2 lbs. My weigh-in this morning is 236.8 lbs. and I am suprised, and very happy. Keep up the great job, we are coming down to the home stretch. Jim

Part 2: After a quick book read to my daughter and breakfast. I was able to biked another 15 minutes for 4.25 miles at 17-19 mph
So that now puts me at 104 miles towards 500 miles.
I have reached 1/5 of my milage goal for this year. Hopefully I will be able to beat the 500 and reach for 1000.
See if I can do another 30 minutes later on today?

Biked 30 minutes for 8 miles at 15-17 mph 99.75 miles towards 500 miles.
See if I can do another 30 minutes later on today?
I wanted my goal by the 1st of July, but may be that on my weight goal which is fine. My other goal will be almost 1/5th done to 500 miles. Planning on making that later on today.
| That is great BooDaddy: You look to be approuching your goal pretty soon, when might this be? Keep up the great job and don't let the weather get to you. My Best Wishes, Jim

Sounds great I will have to give it a try. Thanks.
Walked 2 miles for 40 minutes with my beautiful wife.
91.75 miles towards 500 miles.
Yesterday was another 99 degree day. 2 days in a row. They did say that it reached 100 degrees for 1 minute down at the airport, which is where PHX official weather is gathered from, but it didn't count. Hopefully the temps will drop down to the low 80's for this week.

| "http://soup.betterrecipes.com/soup.html" I ran acrossed this site about 2 month ago, and although it has more than soups, I have only tryed about 5 of their soup recepies. There is probably 100 different soups to choose from, all free to view or print. My wife and I like the Vegetable or Vegetable beef type soups. Yesterday I made the Crock-Pot Italian Vegetable Soup. Very good and easy too. Of the 5 I have made every one has been great except the Chicken Stew, it is kind of pricey with not much flavor, while the rest had been great. I put the web address on top or do a search for " Better Recepies . com ". The hearty stick to your ribs vegetable soup is great also. Enjoy, Jim

| What type of soup? Always on the look out for another great soup recipe.

| BooDaddy: It has been a good day today, I made some soup for dinner, I used a crock pot. The calorie count is about 200 for a serving, so this will be my dinner. I hope all is well with you. Jim

Same with the cycles on the weight. That is fine as long as the cycles don't head in the up way instead of the down.
Nice hot day yesterday of 99 degrees, NOT. Hope it has been better for you over there in CA.
| BooDaddy: Oh that's right, this next week is "Easter Week". Thanks for reminding me. I was wondering when it was this year, now I know. I have noticed that my weight will stay the same for a few days then drop one or two pounds in cycles, kind of over and over again. I try to keep my calorie intake to about 1100 or 1200 each day, and I peddle my stationary bike anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes 5 or 6 times a week. This has been working well, but it seems that I will need to do more to hit my goal. I need to get out and walk more. Anyways, Good Morning. Jim
| Hope you can figure it out. I know by the end of the week of teaching 5th graders, my sleep is lacking. I do have this next week off to sleep in and enjoy the spring break with my daughter.

| Good Morning BooDaddy: I am having a ruff morning this morning, and although my weight has dropped 1/2 a pound from yesterday I am having a hard time waking up again. This is the second day in a row I slept bad. I may go see my doctor just to complain to him about whatever and let him check me out. Good Morning, Jim
| I weigh myself every couple of days. When I see that the numbers are about the same, than I take that as the correct weight.
| I agree, if it is not more than a half pound or even one pound, I don't worry.
| I seem to go up and down around a 1 lb or so. As long as it isn't more than a few pounds.
| Good Morning BooDaddy: I may have spoke too quickly, as I am up a half a pound today. This is quite alright because I did not do anything yeaterday. Today I will peddle my bike and take the wife to the doctors. It will show tomorrow. Good morning, Jim

| Nice to hear about the losing the weight, Jim. I have never really done anything like this before, but my wife got me started. I wanted to lose weight anyway so this has been great. And you can't beat the price, huh?
| BooDaddy: Keep it up and keep it going. I weighed myself this morning and I went down again from yesterday another pound. Today's weight is 238.6, which means I have lost a whopping 30 lbs. in 60 days. I am surprised at how well this web site works if I just apply what I learn. Also the support from friends like you really help me out a lot. I have noticed lately that when I get up from a chair I feel so much lighter the first few steps, I feel almost like I am floating, kind of neet to feel this light again, yet the BMI says I should lose another 80 lbs. Really very hard to believe that, so anything close will do for me. Hey Good Morning and keep it up. Jim

Great job on keep up with the exercise. I have somedays that it is hard to do and I feel bad when I don't bike. Like the idea about the Hybrid stationary bike. Let me know if you find one and we can do the rest of our 500 miles or more very quickly.
Been in the low 90's here and will continue to be the same this week. Hopefully a cool down next week so I can get to a spring training game. We will see if that happens.
| Good Morning BooDaddy: As a matter of fact, I am a smoker and at some point I will need to quit again. As for my biking, I have a stationary bike that I peddle anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, 5 to 7 days a week. I don't have a set amount of minutes and if I don't get my time in, I never try and make it up, I just go on from there. It seems to me that trying to make them-up or doubling them is when I hurt myself, so I don't. Here of lately I get bored at peddling my bike, so if the weather and the water stays warm the next few days I will go swimming.(I have a pool in my backyard) I will take advantage of the warm weather, it has been 80 to 85 degress the last few days. I was wishing I could find a Hybrid Stationary Bike that would give me exersize, without me peddling, LOL. Good Morning. Jim

Jim here is where I am on riding:
Biked 47 minutes for 13.25 miles at 15-18.5 mph
89.75 miles towards 500 miles
Hopefully you weren't buying those cigarettes, right? Just joking. Stay away from those fires down in Orange county.

| Yesterday my wife and I went to "Knotts Berry Farm" We walked around the market place out-side the entrance gate, just to get some excersize, but on the way there I noticed the price of gas, Regular is $3.05 per gallon and Preimium is $3.25 a gallon. In 1968 I worked in a gas station and the price for gas was 19.9 and 22.9 cents, a pack of cigarettes were 25 cents. Wow that was two dimes compared to three dollars each gallon. Very soon we will need a pick-up truck full of money to buy a quart of milk or loaf of bread. My how times change, but by then I won't eat as much and it will cost less to fill me up, maybe! Hey Good Morning, Jim

| Love the bike dud on your last posting. Great idea. My wife and I went to pick up my daughter at my parent's house yesterday and saw a new H2 pulled to the side of the road. My wife figures that they ran out of gas. That was so funny yesterday. Got to like out us in the U.S.A. use up most of the gas around the world.

My brother bought a Ridgeline. I am going to have to wait a little while to get a new car. I like to see that Jeep is starting to bring the diesel engines over to the U.S.
I heard on the news about your "fun" gas prices over there in CA. We are up to 2.50 right now. It is interesting how within a week the price of gas went up by 20 cents. Interesting how the gas companies are recording record sales figures every quarter, huh? Must be nice.
BooDaddy: I filled up my Honda Ridgeline the other day with Regular, cost $60.00. I also filled up my Ford Escape (Hybrid) with Regular, it cost $30.00. Quite a differance. Here in Los Angeles Regular was $2.97 per gallon. The Honda holds 20 gallons and the Ford holds 12. The Honda gets 18 mpg and the Ford gets 25+. Both car cost about $30K brand new last year. I have driven the Ford 6000 miles in 12 months, while the Honda has been driven 1500 miles in 18 months. I don't drive very much. . Jim

| This is a bit late responding to this topic, but for the most part stay away from the North American cars wh en it comes to hybrids. They're not much better MPG then the regular cars. The import cars (Honda/Toyota and now Nissan) all get decent MPG. I can't wait till the Chevy Volt comes out (if they don't butcher it like the EV1).

Today's RANT! I have to say, that the temptation is huge to buy something that gets good gas mileage. I feel as though I should make a statement with my next purchase and tell the oil companies just what I think about their record profits. They are making an unheardof amount of money on gouging us with prices and then blame the prices on terrorists or OPEC or a lack of capacity. The addiction I have with driving is strong and fighting it amounts to, what I perceive as, giving up freedom. So the best way I can see to keeping my habit is to lesson my dependence on oil. When are the plug-in hybrids coming? Kel

JUNKJIM-- My wife and agree with your wife on those "cardboard box" cars. Boy those were easy to design. Our Governor here has signed that the hybirds can now use the HOV lane during rush hour with special plates. They use to be able to until they took the plates away. They need to figure out what our state is doing.
Did do another 20 minutes on the recumbant bike: 5.25 miles at 15-17 mph
14.5 miles towards 500 miles
Planning on doing more today.

BooDaddy: I kinda agree with both you and your parents about new body styles. When I see a new car models, I either love it or hate. I am wondering if it is just me. When Honda came out with the "Element" and Nissan with the "Scion" the wife said they looked like a phone booth tipped over and someone put wheels on it, I thought they were small imatation HummVees myself. The keep up with the Jones attatude of car makers.
I will be peddling my bike today to get my metablizum up to speed. Keep up your good work, BooDaddy. Best wishes. Jim -

JUNKJIM-- the bike is great. Although my daughter want to sit on my lap when I do it. That would be fine if she was smaller, but at 52lbs, that is not easy.
My parents have the 1 prius and were looking for another one, but with the new body style that they have now they didn't like it. I kind of agree with them on that new style. Although the new one has a lot lower emissions that the original ones.

| Back in 2001 I worked for a Toyota dealership and Toyota was covering the batery and all components for the electrical engine coverage for 8 years if I remember correct. I am not sure what if any, the coverage may be on the electrical engine; at the time, Prius was the only hybrid and had been already being sold in Japan for 4 years, so the bugs were pretty much out by then. I am not sure how Ford or Honda hybrids are. But the new Camry is very nice looking.
Maybe that is true. After I had bought my Ecsape one of the salesman at Ford told me that Honda SUVs in Japan were being recalled because the batteries would over-charging and making the batteries burn-up and catching the car on fire. At that time I was not sure if that was just Ford salesman talk to make their cars look better. Maybe it was true! My Ford escape is fine, yet Honda make a very good car. I also bought a Ridgeline and I can't say anything bad about it..NOTHING. .

I am doing it by being brutally honest with myself about what I eat and what I do for excersice. It appears to me that no-one is going to do this for me, so in thinking this way whenever I see something I want to eat I think to myself is this going to help me or hurt me in getting to my goal. I know the answer so I don't eat it, no matter what. I also have covienced my wife to help me out with smaller portions.(She insists on making a big meal every breakfast, lunch and dinner) For her this is fine, she is 95 lbs, but for me I need to watch what I eat.(I am 255 lbs). I was told about 25 years ago that when you are full and had enough to eat the majority of us will sigh (spelling), kind of like, well that's done or that's enough. I have found this to be true with me. The trick is to notice it and stop at that point, I know if I notice the sign I will also notice that I am full. like listening to your body. So I took this one step farther, and found that if I stop eating half way through my meal and wait 10 to 15 minutes I will be satified to a point that I will not need to continue and if I don't need to eat I won't, (this part is self control). this seems to be working for me and I can live like this instead of eating whatever and whenever I want. I had to re-adopt the old saying that I will "eat to live and not live to eat". You have probably heard it before but it really is true for me. Keep up the good work boodaddy. As I have said before. | 11 pounds in about 30 days. Just tracking my food since the beginning of the year and uping my intake of water seems to be helping out. Trying to do more waling/running, but I get too lazy about that. My wife and I are going to look at a recumbant bike off of craig's list tonight. Hopefully that will help out a lot. Also more fruits and veg's helping. We bought 3 big containers of cherry Tomatoes for our family to eat from CostCo on Sunday and we have 1 left. Great job on 16lb in 25 days. How are you doing it?

Here in LA I believe it is alright to use the diamond lane with a hybrid vehical and only one person in the car. I don't really go anywhere so I don't use the freeway very much. Hey, how your diet doing? I have lose 16 lbs in 25 days. How is yours doing? Any tricks or secrets? = junkjim =
| My father used his Prius for his work and thought he would have a special license plate and use the diamond lane all of the time, but the federal government doesn't consider that a vehicle in the alt. fuel cat. That is crazy. He had to get the regular license plate which costed him about $200 more to reg. the car. Kind of like us in the valley of the sun, not promoting the use of solar more.
Now that is the way to save the enviornment, a trolly system and not hybrids. Something that can carry more than one person at a time. Here in the So.Bay Area drivers are using the car pool lanes with only one driver. I am amazed how people will use the lanes to get somewhere in such a hurry only ro be in a hurry to get home. Oh well, life in the fast lane wheather you like it or not. = junkjim

| 5th largest in the US with the surrounding cities. I think we are coming up on 2 mil pretty soon. Too many new houses going up and the price of houses going up with it. Right when my wife and I wanted to get a house too. They are plowing under the fields out west to put in more houses. Of course with more house means that our roads are not ready for them. Would like to see that house manufactures build, widen, the road first than put the house in after that. It takes over 1 1/4 to go from one side of the PHX area to the other. That is if you want to do it during the day time. Don't even think about the weekends since they shut down the freeways to work on them. Boy it is fun to get around, not. At least we are building our streetcar system after many years of trying.

| Maybe they aren't there, just big BOSE speakers to make you feel better. We haven't got that bad yet, but someday if this keeps up. It clears up a little bit with the "snowbirds" heading back north sometime. I hope our air never gets that bad like L.A.'s air. It is hard for them to get it cleared up. I see it at least once a year when we take our 6th graders out to Catalina for a 3 day camp during the end of April.

| There was an article about Hybrids in our newspaper today about using them. A big point was that the auto manufacture need to see that there is a big demand on them to get them serious about putting them out more so we will have more people driving them. I remember here in PHX you could see the beautiful blue sky. Now with PHX grown, a lot of Cali. people coming to the valley since it is cheaper, our sky is looking like the LA area. Does wonders on the children that I teach with their breathing. More and more students are having problems in PE breathing because of the polution in PHX.

I own a ford. It's okay, but I don't drive very much (5K ea. year). The gas milage that I get is not what is posted on the sticker, I get maybe 25 mpg,and 95% of that is mostly around town. It runs and drives about the same as a gas only car. It feels and sound a bit tinny or cheap, but all in all it really is not a bad car. I waited for over a year for the Honda SUV but it never came to product here in America, so I when for the Ford. Would I buy anouther one? Maybe! But probably not a Ford. Good things are: when I fill up once a month, It takes 12 to 15 gallons. Bad things: cost to buy. It was about 5k more that regular and it will take me over 5 years to save that much gas. On very Hot or Cold days the motor has to keep running to help the A/C or Heater, wnich in turn drives up the gas consumption. I live in So. Calif. so this don't really effect me much. One other thing that I have found is that the gas motor has to run when driving over 28 mph, and the only streets where this is possible are residental streets. Who many of us can stay under 30 mph to save gas? The poeple behind me are constantly honking at me to speed up when I am trying to save gas. With the person that is trying to save fuel and at the speeds this world want to be at the Hybrids are not that practical yet. Now if saving the enviorment is what you want to do, I would say you would help more by buying one for everyone on your city block. One out of 10,000 cars being a hybrid is not going to help much. It will help a little but why should I do all the work. junkjim PS: A golf cart would do me fine but you can't lock up your Goodies inside the vehicle without doors and locks.
| Don't forget that with the Hybrid that you need to look at what the emissions it is putting out. Some are very low and some are extremely low emissions. So in the long run, that will help out the enviroment. My parents have a Toyota Prius and they love it.

| Thanks guys for your input on this hybird matter.. i have also read that on extreme hot days it would be wise to park in shade and if you own a garage it's best to park inside.. also if yu plan on doing a lot of running around town go to the farthest place and work back that way the engine does it's thing to help optimize the fuel savings...i suppose it needs to warm up... i really don't want to have to worry about these things to help fuel savings...

| If the statement the hybrid will say about you is what you're into, buy the Hybrid, however, I would like to suggest that if it is fuel savings you are after you should look at the big picture. An example of what I mean is: Compare the annual fuel savings with the premium (price above the non-hybrid version). Also, check the insurance premiums and also the maintenance costs between the two versions. I think (obviously) that people get caught up in the fuel economy and turn a blind eye to what may be punitive behind the curtain costs. This not to say that if I had planned on purchasing a new car that I wouldn't lean towards one, however, I live in Wyoming, and I am not convinced they (auto manufacturers) thought of my climate when building these marvels of technology. I'll be more comfortable with the idea in a couple of years when all the guinea pigs in my town have owned one for awhile.
Right now all the reports say similar things.
"The average person won't own the hybrid long enough to make up for the extra costs. It has more to do with wanting to make a personal decision to do your part in helping the environment. You shouldn't buy a hybrid because you're wanting to save a lot of money on gasoline. Buying a hybrid is more about trying to help live in a cleaner world."
That being said, there are tax cuts that come with purchasing hybrids, but they are VERY strict on which hybrids get the tax cuts, and the cuts are getting smaller. If the tax cuts are attractive to you, then you may want to look at the IRS website to find more info on them.

| I haven't been serious with my research because I'm still about two years away from buying one so I've just looking here and there. Once I get closer to buying one and making such a big purchase I'll be reading and checking everything. You're right though, the money you'll save on gas more than makes up for the possibility of buying parts. Which hybrid SUV are you leaning towards right now? I really like the Toyota Highlander.

| I don't know anyone that does own one but I'm also interested in this topic. I'm an SUV person but I hate the gas consumption that goes along with it. I'm planning on getting a hybrid SUV after I'm out of school and have a real job. The obvious pro's are the gas mileage. Some of the SUV Hybrids like the Ford Escape get MPGs in the 30's. Also, you don't have to recharge a Hybrid battery. Some of the cons I have read about are that there have been some electrical problems in the earliest models of Hybrids, they cost more than their non Hybrid counterpart (Ford Escape is cheaper than the Ford Escape Hybrid) and it could become pricey if you have to replace anything because parts are still new and pricey.
