| Thanks, Mac. I like your Larry Bird quote too. One of the few basketball players I actually recognize!

JayJo,
I really like the quote you have at the end of your profile - lose the excuses for not losing the weight.

| I like to post with other teachers to see how much they are having fun at their school like I am. I am not as much as posting for "fixing" problems, as some people are. Just fun to talk to others from around the world and support each other.

| My boyfriend's a Sparker but I'm sure that if he had found it before I did, he wouldn't have joined. As far as the posts go, he's a problem solver and got irritated by people posting for help and then never responding to those who rallied around trying to provide answers and support. The teenagers with eating disorders started getting to him. Now he posts in the game room lol.

| It's a beautiful thing to find the right woman for you. Which I am very happy to say I have. Now I never have to worry about what the ratios are in the places I go. Life is great!

| That was a great one, MDAMERON!

| All I know is that I wish that this sex ratio would be applied to the parties and bars I go to.

What makes a woman more apt to ask for help than a man?
I don't think men and women are really that different when it comes to knowing we need help.
But there's a huge diffenence in how we ask for it.

I agree with the sports postings. Guy issues that affect our world. :)
So Go Refs in todays Super Bowl, since my Broncos are not there this year!

I like to post because I like to help people. It feels good knowing you're offering advice, motivating someone or teaching them something new. I also like to post here at the Guys' Lounge because it's very carefree and the majority of it involves sports!

| I enjoy posting on the teacher's page to hear about what is happening across the US in the classrooms. I agree that a lot of guys aren't into message boards. Guys rather keep it in instead of share their feelings. I don't really journal that much. Maybe every once in a while. That was very hard in one of the teacher's classes in our district when they wanted us to reflect on what we learned. I guess that is why I had my B.S. degree to help out in that type of situation with writing. I am not a really reflective person.

I agree with all three of Jellyjo's reasons as to why there are more women (I'm a woman, by the way). Plus, I don't think that men generally get as "into" posting on message boards as women. I don't know why, that's just something I've observed on the Internet over the past years :).
Of course, you guys are the exception, and that's great!

| I think it helps that my wife and I are doing SP at the same time. I want to have more SparkPoints than she is so that helps. Having each other for support helps a lot. I don't think some guys have that support.
| I don't know. I think it all comes back to refusing to admit that they need help. I've had several guy friends complain about having a hard time losing weight, and then when I suggest this site, they get all antsy and act embarrassed. I don't get it either. You wouldn't give up on building a birdhouse because you can't drive nails with your hand when there's a hammer sitting right there, would you?

JellyJo,
I can't fully understand the reluctance to use what ever tools can help in the job at hand. Whatever the task at hand, using the best tool will create results. I look at SP as a vary sharp tool to help me in my sculpting of a healthier lifestyle. If more men thought about it that way, it might help them want to use the site. If they tried it for a few weeks, I think they would be hooked.

Sex vs. Gender the concept of words getting mixed-up here.
Male to female ratio depends on one's sex which is the biological difference between a male and female.
Gender refers to one's sexual classification.
These words mean two totally different things. Your sex is either male or female. Your gender is whatever you choose to display socially.

| BooDaddy, you know the funny thing about that is that a hundred years ago, it was completely reversed. It used to be that only men were trusted to be school teachers. I think the reasons for the gender gap are pretty clear. 1: Women are much more pressured to be fit and healthy than men. 2: Women are more social in that they thrive more on doing things as a group as opposed to the solitary male. 3: Men often don't like to admit the need for help in doing things. I don't mean any of this as insulting, they are just psychological facts. I think it's very interesting. I've been trying to get some of my male friends to join, but so far, they all act like they think a site like this is lame. I think all you guys are great for doing something so good for yourselves!

Are we complaining?
If you walked into a bar with those odds ... would you gripe about it?

| I know the male population on the teachers Learning to Lose sparkteam is very low. I am a 5th grade teacher and I don't remember seeing anyone posting on that team being male. Of course, it is the same at my school. Only 3 male teacher and the male principal. It is great since we take some of our 6th graders for a 3 day camp at Catalina and I get to go again. This makes my 4th year going. I love that part of the job being a minority.

| I know the gym I go to is like 40% females to 60% male, but here is like 95% to 5%
So 80% female would make a ratio of???? About 9/1?
Subtract the Shim factor and let's say 8/1
Gentlemen....we are outnumbered in this battle of the bulge. But I sure do enjoy being outnumbered at the gym.
Our mission (should you accept it) is to narrow the gender gap. Are we not MEN? The couch potatoe, remote grabbin, chip eatin, arm-chair QB's that we are, is just an illusion that we have masterfully created to allow us to enjoy the pleasures that we hold so sacred.
We must stay true to this creed. If this means losing weight and eating girly food, then so be it. Man can do any task. Just do it!.....during the off-season!

It's around 80% women, if you believe HitWise stats. There are a number of third-party measurement tools-- all have flaws, but it's around there.

Safe to say it's more like 1000/1 Pick any message board or community group and scroll around.
| Do you really think it's that close? (3 to 1?)
Flash,
I'm guessing around 3 to 1 women to men and if you start looking at die hard, always here people then it might jump to 4 to 1.

| seems like it's actually less than most sites devoted to healthy living and weight loss. probably because women have so much more pressure on them to look a certain way.

Whatever the 'gender gap' is in the way of numbers ... I sorta like it.

| I don't know the ratio, but it's a gap like the grand canyon. Just from what I've seen, I'm guessing about 30 to 1.

| I've noticed that the women easily outnumber the men here on this great website. I was wondering if anyone knew of any ratio/percentage of the official sex breakdown here. I'm interested to see how much of a gap there is. Thanks
