| One of my main motivations was when I saw some pictures of myself when I acted in a church skit this summer. I really had no idea that I had gotten so round. Ugh.

One of the things i have learned is that motivation to lose weight is a very strange thing, and works differently for different people.
But if it helps to feel that you are doing this for your health (and the list of things that overweight people are at higher risk of is very long) and not for 'vain personal reasons', then more power to ya. Whatever works for you is good.

| That sounds like some pretty good motivation, Jodydiets! My doctor is not much lighter than me, so I guess he's not so much into scaring with weight!

I recently got health insurance, and decided to get a physical as soon as possible. I hadn't had one in probably 7 years.
My doctor wants to put me on blood pressure pills. In the week that has gone by since, it has struck me like a ton of bricks. I've visualized taking a pill, and at the age of 25, it's unacceptable to me. I wanted to hear the truth, and he gave it to me. As a result, I've committed myself to making changes immediately. I'm doing it during the hardest month of the year because it's possible for me to make up excuses for every month of the year.
Basically I was wondering if I was alone in that I actually WANTED my doctor to scare me.. it brought uncertainties about weight loss into focus for me!
