Couldn't agree more! Wild game is usually lower in fat than the store bought variety (from my very limited knowledge of the subject). My sweetheart and I stick pretty exclusively to the venison, fish and wild fowl in our freezer, only very occasionally buying a chicken or turkey for variety. Must be something to it as her cholesterol has been slowly dropping since we went to that regime.

Mine was ok to begin with but since cutting out storebought meat (for the most part) it has dropped noticeably. Total cholesterol at the last physical was 155 with HDL of 63. Not bad for an old guy of 50, non? ROFL.

Hi. I'm new to the Sparkpeople site, Check out my Sparkpage!
I looked at the different Spark teams, and looked for one specifically for hunters.
I found one, but it only had one member when I joined...now, including me it
has two members...I think the person who originated it lost interest, since no one else joined...anyway...I came here looking to see if there were any other hunters I could share recipes and stories with. I was happy to see this topic near the top...
So, please join the Hunting Team (something like "losing to look good in camo"...I think that's the name...
My fiancé introduced me to hunting in 2003. I have since taken 3 caribou,
a moose, 2 wild turkies, a wild boar, 3 black bear, a pronghorn antelope, a mule deer, and 15 Whitetail deer. I have pretty well matched his take...so...
we have tons of wild game to eat...and a bazillion ways to prepare it...We
are always looking for new and interesting ways to cook it, so please share your ideas.

thank you...I do! I actually found a web site after some searching that was very informative about not only the meat nutritional value but cooking it and so on....

Hi, I am new here. I am wondering if anyone has a good web site for nutrition information for venison or any other wild game. I live in a town in south east missouri where deer hunting is taken very very seriously and have received alot of venison (deer meat, per the townspeople), which I love but am wondering if anyone has 1. complete nutrition info or 2. an excellent recipe for jerky....
btw, I was reading a few of the posts, I found it odd, moving here from michigan that so many women hunted, but about 1/3 of the hunters in this area are women.
Thanks so much..
