Remember you need to build it up. Just to push yourself a little at a time, don't forget to stretch helps the muscles to heal and to take a break.
I have been set out a programme as follows 2 days cardio intense to moderate I end with a swim, 3rd day is a long swim only, then a repeat of the first 2 days. Weekends no gym time, to allow for recovery, I go walks etc and am more active but I don't push which would be easy to do as I am seeing results and benefits, that could lead to injury and set me back.
Patience is what is needed.
You take care and get into your stride.
All the best

Thanks Andy. I've learned one thing about exercising. It makes me feel alot better. Since I haven't been exercising the last couple of months I haven't been feeling very well. I'm starting to believe that not exercising contributed to my legs hurting in some way. I look at myself now and look back at myself a couple of months ago and I see a big difference. Exercising is definitely the way to go. Have a great day.

Glad your health seems to be back on track.
Good news on the exercise as well.
Exercise has always been one of my biggest failings, you can always find excuses not to. Its taken a long time for it to actually sink in for me. I need to exercise, I can eat all the right things and quantities, but if I don't exercise then I don't lose, its that simple, have in the past ackowledged this fact but only paid lip service to it "yeh! I know!" then found ways around it.
Joined a gym initially it was for these reasons
1)Needed help with the weight loss
2)Increase my fitness level and general zest for life you could call it.
3) As it is a minimum years membership, if I am paying for it I need to go.
Now its good I enjoy it, at first it seemed like a chore. But with the weight loss, my lungs working better, my weight and unfitness mainly caused me sleep apnoea or something like that, heavy snoreing, stop breathing then starting with a start that wakes you up. It had been years to be honest that I had forgotten what a good nights kip was.
With the loss I snore lightly now but it doesnt affect my sleep or the wifes ....lol. I sleep well and soundly it is so..........o good.
Take care and all the best.

This time I can blame it on some health problems. Those hopefully have gone away. I exercised for the first time in about 2 months last night. So I believe I'm on the right track now. Have a great day.

Been there done that, I can loose 27 to 34lbs a month when I start dieting without thinking about it.
Notice the begining folks I CAN, thats why Ive I have always yo-yoed, doing better average 2-3lbs a week which is better.
So slow and easy.

You probably have done this and yet I will mention it... are you eating enough? 6 mini meals throughout the day will help you keep from feeling hungry and craving most anything. Are you drinking lots of water? Often times we eat, when really we are dehydrated. Are you happy and fulfilled with life? Any stresses that are not being dealt with? Are you trying to fill an emotional void? Keep talking with us : ) and keep your chin up .. once you figure some of this out, I believe the rest will fall into place!

I just wish I could lose weight and keep it off. It's becoming a big obstacle for me right now.

If you run you will find that you can cover a fair distance in the short time before you stop. While you are catching your breath the one who is walking will soon pass you by without even being the slightest winded.

Hey ICEWOLF - It took me 6 months to lose 30 pounds. So just think of me when you are feeling like 17 pounds in 2 weeks isn't fast! You're kicking butt - woohoo! :)

Slow and steady wins the race! :)

I definitely agree that a slower, healthy loss is more likely to stick in the long-run. And that's what this is about - the long haul - if we want to be healthy for the rest of our lives. And if we want to learn new habits that will stick with us past reaching our target weights.

It can be frustrating at times, though, especially when you hit a plateau. Seems like the body likes to sit around familiar weight levels. Like it's taking a breather and enjoying the old stomping ground. If you're persistent, though, your body will eventually pick up again and realize that you've got further to go. Those are the times that this site and all you lovely people have been the most motivating for me, so thank you!

I agree with Lisa, it's more fun to see the new muscles and the thinner waiste over time. The only drawback is that people who you see everyday may not compliment you (a topic on another forum) becuase it's not like you went to bed and *poof* woke up 50 pounds lighter.

Loosing it fast and keeping it off would be great, but so would havinga magic wand to do it all with. I guess we've just got to stay on top of the diet and fix or deal with the things we cannot change, no matter how bad we want to change them.

Stay the course!

I definitely do not want to lose weight quickly because when this happens it's not likely one will keep it off, nor does it give your body time to adjust. I'm enjoying the progress Im making as well as the scenery along the way ha ha. Seriously tho, I'm finding this an interesting and very worthwhile new chapter in my life, and Im enjoying it every step of the way : ) I also am enjoying learning about nutrition and fitness in general.

I know what you mean. Me being impatient is what stopped me from keeping up with my diets the last few times I tried.

yeah i totally understand where you are coming from. I have lost 17lbs since I started two weeks ago. I just wish I would lose more faster. I wish I could just snap my fingers and be smaller.

I know exactly what you mean. The only time I've ever really been skinny was when I was REALLY young. I've got a LOT of weight to lose too... so I'm kind of interested to be the semi-fit guy and find out how the rest of the skinny world is living. Or maybe just how the rest of the average weight world is living instead of living the way I am now, you feel me?

Trust me, nobody wants to lose weight super fast as much as me, man.

I hear you both. The hardest part for me personally was when I'd be on a strict diet-exercise regime for a month and barely shed five pounds. I thought I was doing everything wrong and stopped, going back to my unhealthy lifestyle, figuring I didn't gain before, since I'm not loosing either, I might as well not care. That's when I went from 180 to 220. And I'm trying to take that back off, it's been hard, but that's my motivation for eating healthy, the forty pounds I gained practically overnight by figuring it didn't matter.

Andy,

I know what you mean. It'd be nice for it all to just drop off. The hardest thing about the weight loss is the time it takes to do it. But it's better to do it one time right than to have to do it twice, because your weight yo-yos back. Steady weight loss is awesome.

Keep it up man,
Russ

I am so darn impatient that I am just dying to be thin again and I am loosing weight steadily but I have let myself go so much it takes so much darn time. I still have 50 lbs to loose. I have lost 21 lbs so far and I feel great but I wish like that I could get the weight off faster and get back to the healthy lifestyle I used to live.
