| after I wake up around 8:30-9:30 am, or when I get home from work (if it's an early day) at 8 or 9pm. I find that mixing it up feels different, pretty sure it makes a difference too to keep things switched up.

Sometime Between 1am and 3am usually. I'm self-conscious, and my roommate and I go in the middle of the night because no one will be there! ^_^
I wish I could go out in the early morning to work out, but I never seem to have the motivation to go in the morning (most definitely not a morning person, heh). Although I envy people who can get up at 4 or 5am for a jog, I just don't think I'd ever be that type of person. I'm more of the stay up late, and wake up late person. :)

| I usually work out before dinner, around 6pm (we eat around 7:30/8pm). After work, and picking up the kid,my husband does all the cooking, so I can workout 40+min/eliptical and 30min/dumbells. When I workout before dinner, I am more aware of what I eat and don't overeat. I do this three times a week.
|
|
|
|
| I usually get to the gym between 5:30 and 6pm. I stay until the day care closes, 7p. So some days are better then others.
|
|
|
|
| I do cardio from 5:45 to 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. It is working for me so I am sticking with it. Do whatever works best for you, just keep at it.

For me, I use my workouts as my release valve. If I have a bad day at work, I put on the headphone, turn on my MP3 player and start lifting.
And if I have a really really bad day at work, I hold off until Saturday and go to boxing. 100lb heavy bag = great stress buster!

For all you 'non-morning people' - don't feel badly. I am so jealous of the people who have enough energy after work to go out and do their exercise. For me - it's definitely a.m. or bust. Plus the benefit of am is that I can get halfway to the gym without even realizing it cause I'm still half asleep, haha.

| I keep thinking that I should get up early and get some exercise in, but it hasn't happened and I don't think there's much chance of it ever happening. I'm just not a morning person, I can't barely get up early enough to get to work on time. So I get my workouts in after work, like between 5 and 7. On the weekends I tend to get out in the early afternoon.

| Believe me, it doesn't look very impresive when I'm doing it - my 5 year old wandered down the other morning near the end of my work out, I was sweating so much he was concerned I was melting. . .

I tried very hard to do am exercise before going to work, but I just can't keep it up. I never get to bed early enough and am just not a morning person.
So now I usually work out every other day in the evening after work, around 7-7:30. It causes me to eat dinner pretty late sometimes since I get home from work too late. But I agree w/Matt, at least I'm exercising. If I didn't do it when it was convenient, then I'd probably not do it at all.
I also get to swim every friday around 10am since I work part-time. That's my absolute favorite workout. I get to take my time and usually meet my husband for lunch right afterwards. Gotta love Fridays!

I am the last of the dinosaurs, I am a factory worker (who went home sick today, sick of work, yuck yuck, ) so to workout in am I would need to get up at 4:30 am. I have done this upon occasion but not often. I do most workouts in afternoon.

Russ....yeah, it's amazing how many people suggest different things. I don't get too hung up on any one thing. I stick with the idea of a healthy diet and just getting ANY exercise. Both will lead to good, hopefully longer, life. =)
I have to work at 6am everyday so I don't workout in the morning.

omg 4:50 am would kill me! I just finished working out from 9:00am - 9:45 am and it wasn't bad (meaning my legs didn't feel like lead).
Interesting article about cortison and time of day to work out.
So hard to know.

Well, I work out after work. Sometime between 5-7. It works best for my schedule and my girls get to go to their gym.
Hey Matt, I've ready an article at Men's Health that suggest that working out in the morning for guys, might give you less testosterone and more cortisol in your system, which might inhibit the workout. I'm no expert. I'm a guy trying to lose some weight. This only goes to show that there's 100 ways to dice this information.

| 4:50am, just as I get out of bed - I don't eat before, and I hate it. Some mornings I just can't do it, like this morning - I was at the Yankee game last night and didn't get to bed until midnight, I just couldn't get out of bed until 5:30am and by that time I missed my window for exercise. Yesterday I took the day off from work and did 30 minutes on the elliptical around 6:30am and I found it was a much better work out, burned 400 calories in less time then I typically burn 300 in - I was able to get my heat rate up much easier then usual and sustain my momentum - I find the same thing on the weekends when I work out a little later in the am as well - sometimes 7 or 8am. Unfortunately it's 4:50am or not at all.

We have a great workout facility at work so I am usually doing a bulk of my workouts over my lunch hour. Elliptical, Stationary bike, weight training. If I dont get all my cardio minutes in over lunch I will make up any time after dinner in the evening.
I am training for running a 5k at the end of September so I like to get some running in everyday. I started at 1 mile and have worked up to 1.75 miles so far and that is usually in the evening when the weather is not so hot.
I would really love to get up in the morning and get this out of the way so I can spend my evenings doing other things but I just cant roll out of bed at 5am to do so. I already get up at 6am to get ready for work.

if i'm workng at 9 [quite rare - maybe once/week] i get up at 6:30am, eat breakfast and go for a 50 min bike ride. otherwise i get up at 9am and go for a jog & walk, then 50 min ['bout 11 miles] bike ride till around 1pm [i'm a student and it's now summer holidays so don't do much during the week :)]. i like to get it all out the way so i have time for the dreaded strength exercises which i hate so much!

There are a number of studies that definitely promote working out in the morning. The only bonus they suggest is it your metabolism may get that little extra boost. However, there are other experts who argue it doesn't really matter enough, as long as you're working out and burning those calories.
The only working out I enjoy in the morning is a good bike ride. All other exercise comes mid afternoon, or more often in the evening. Don't worry too much about the time you work out as much how often you work out.
Eating breakfast in the morning will also help kick start your metabolism. So there's different things you can do to help.

What time does everyone work out?
Most exercise (nutrition and fitness) books I have been reading say workout right in the a.m. as this gives your metabolism the biggest boost.
For me, working out in the a.m. is like have lead legs and a very tried body. My peak performance time (when Im not hating working out and IM feeling strong) is anywhere after 12 noon.
I hate not to utilize my metabolism as much as possible and yet HATE working out in the a.m.
.. talk to me ;) lol Lisa
