That's the great thing about SparkPeople. It teaches us to live a healthy but REALISTIC lifestyle. I've never told anyone I'm on a "diet" with SP. It's a change in the way I eat and live. Be polite and accept the gracious offers, but don't over-stuff yourself. The fact is, in order to gain a pound of food you have to over shoot your calories by 3500. So absolute worst case scenario is you gain back 1 pound. You've already lost the weight once, you can easily lose that pound again.
Living with a realistic diet means you'll eat a sweet now and then, have a beer or glass of wine, and enjoy a night of good company and good food. Take it easy and enjoy yourself every once in a while, then get right back on track the next day.

Just go with the flow. Enjoy the dinner, and get back on track the day after.

OK, I really blew it last night. I was invited out to dinner at the home of somebody who oversees our project. It was important that I make a good impression on him and his wife as he has been quite critical of the job we have been doing. It was much more awkward than I thought it would be. Offers of pre-dinner drinks, snacks, standing around shooting the bull, and then a sit-down dinner and the wife served each of us a beef stew that her husband cooked! Beef, potatoes, carrots and a two slices of his homemade bread with gravy on top. Glasses of wine with him topping up everyone's glass as soon as it went down a little. Finally, a desert that she cooked "just for tonight", a kind of cheese cake. My two emotions of trying to seem appreciative (satisfying the guy and his wife) and being hungry combined to cause a real collapse with my diet. I really didn't know what to do, but to simply go along with everything and just overeat. I've been on this diet hard for several weeks and an actually feeling sick this morning. Any ideas out there about how to handle that social situation?
