I've probably worn a watch every day of my life for the last 30 years and I would go nuts w/out it.

I havnt worn a watch in years but have just recently purchased one because of excersising again. Seems I could never find a clock with a second hand to check my pulse and when I started running outside the sundial I was dragging behind me wasnt practical anymore.

So I went out and bought a cheap watch to have when I excersise and I wear it all the time now just so I dont lose it!!

When I was younger, working two jobs, attending school full time, and attempting to keep a social life going I found that I needed a watch to keep my head on straight.

By the time I was 28 and settled into my first (former) career, I found a watch much less useful, especially since I was required to carry a cell phone and pager all of the time that served the same function as a watch.

Now that I'm in academia, I find watches even less useful. My students, of course, are glad that there is a clock on the back wall...

You're probably right about your doctor not wearing a watch. That way he won't cut off all those patients ahead of you who said, "Hey doc, by the way..." at the end of their HMO-mandated 10 minute slot with the doc.

I face this challenge every day.

I have an on again off again relationship with wear watches. I'll wear one for a while, then the battery will die and I'll be too lazy to replace it so I won't wear it. I actually like not wearing it for a wile, but eventually I'll get a new one.

I used to wear an ironman (velcro band) as my normal daily watch. When I started running it got all nasty from the sweat, so I only use it for running now. I still look at my wrist when I think about the time, then realize it is not there.

To the doctor, now I know why when I have a 2PM apointment with my doctor he doesn't arrive until 2:45PM, must be he doesn't use a watch.

I have two watches. a black casio G-SHock for the weekends working in the yard or scuba diving up to 200 meters, which you know I do all the time. I also have a more go to the office type stainless steel job. I did have a link taken out of it though. It was just flopping around on my arm about ready to go around my elbow

At least twice each day I remove anything I am wearing that is constrictive which usually is my ring and my watch. I then practice a very short tapping technique that my psychologist taught me. I find that this relieves a tremendous about of anxiety for me. Some of it certainly involves removing the watch.

On the other hand I found the first digital watch I ever purchased back in the early 1970's - a Pulsar Date Command. I was able to get it fixed and working. Then I bought another from Ebay and it works, too. I wear them to church or whenever I dress up. I think these old digital watches are just so cool now. They are the ones withe red LED display and 18K gold.

But I'm 58 so it may be a nostalgia thing.

I actually have a weakness for nice watches -- I am not sure this is one freedom I am going to enjoy.

I haven't worn a watch in YEARS. I do have one, and wear it when I MUST. I work in a very time sensitive environment (golf) and wearing a watch is the last thing I want to do.

Have any of you other guys discovered the freedom that comes from not wearing a watch? I'm a busy pediatrician, with a family of my own, but I've found it is just not necessary, or even helpful, to know exactly what time it is all day long. My experience has been that there are enough clocks around when I do need to know the time.
