Hello From SW Houston/Missouri City Texas. I am new to SP. I too love to fish salt Water not so much Fresh. I always hope for Red fish. I just do not get to go like I would lke too. It has been 2 years since I have fished. My best fishig came from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Bay/Waveland before the storm took the peirs away. License there cost $5.00 comparied to the high cost here, it used to be free. I lived with in 5 mins or less to a Free lighted peir, fished day and nite.
Here in Houston area I do not like having to travel so far and back, it takes a lot out of me. I went to Pleasure Island (Port Author) and they have a very nice free one. If I could just get this eating and exercise down it just might work.

Hi...I'm from Indy, and I love to fresh water fish. I really enjoy wading at night fishing for game fish (like Walleye or Bass). IF the wind is blowing in my face, bait fish are pushed toward shore, and I'm hauling'em in on my Rapala. If you can believe it, I have caught two nice sized Walleye on the same Rapala at the same time. I know, sounds like a fish story, right? Well...its true.
I think its totally awesome to go fishing in the back country of Ontario. Fishing is nothing short of awesome down the old logging trails. With limited effort, you can get into lakes that may not have been fished for YEARS! The fish are hungry and they haven't seen enough artifical bait to be nervous. A three man boat can pull in more than 100 fish that are 14" and bigger. Our boat has hauled in many 20lb+ northerns and 4lb+ Walleye/Small Mouth. It can be a blast!!
Happy fishing / hunting to all.

I am in old Katy and althought I don't hunt lower animals - being a paintball player - I do hunt humans. I find it is more sporting when they can shoot back. ;)

| Hi from Cincinnati. I love to fish and I'm thinking about trying my hand at hunting next season. Anything that gets me outdoors and somewhere I can see more stars than you could ever count is my kind of activity. I'm looking forward to getting my gear out in a month and freezing at one our local lakes doing some trout fishing in February.

lol....I hadn't seen a 32 since then either. I never thought SP would help me make these changes. I planned on losing around 65 lbs and figured I'd be happy. But once you get rolling with the program your life just changes on it's own. Don't cut yourself short, you'll be amazed at what you can do when you want it bad enough.

I haven't been a 32 since I was in 9th grade. So yeas you can say that i've gained weight in high school. I think it was all the stress to make the grades that put me over the edge. When I studied i ate. I wish I could way 160, but i'll probably never reach that goal. Best of luck to you and i hope you reach that goal.

Yeah, I really think my body was just saying "slow down". I had been exercising soooo much I think it was meant to slow me down and keep from truly over doing it.
Not a black belt yet. I'm about a year away. I'm fortunate though, because of my background in teaching golf and how quickly I pick sports up, my instructor has me teaching kids classes and some beginner adult classes. Usually you don't get to teach until you're black belt, I'm just lucky. =)
My back feels much better today. I may even try to fight tonight. I'll talk to my instructor and see what she says.

man, sometimes stuff just happens I guess. I have pulled different back and neck muscles on things that you'de never think twice about doing. Figures though get hurt just lifting the bike up not the 4 hours of riding. Sounds like your on the mend though.
That sounds so funny, a 32 " waist. I havent had that since I was 18 or something. Its comming though. I thought you were a TKD blackbelt already or something, all I know about any of that stuff I learned from Bruce Lee and the Karate Kid movies. Im sure you'll be ready for the test when the time comes. A month is along time.

I'm only 5'8"...but most people think i look very good at my current weight. I actually get more comments now than when I was at my lowest. I've put on more muscle so I'm little heavier, but in better shape. I'm pretty sure I'll look too skinny in the 160s. When I was 175 my waist was 32", so to get down to 165 or so I'm pretty sure my waist would be close to 30". Finding men's clothing in that size is hard! lol....So, chances are I'll settle around 170 and just chill.
My back...ugh...Denise and I went on a four hour bike ride last Sunday. There is a landslide half way through the ride and you aren't supposed to go over it. Well, everyone does, it's totally safe. What got me though, was after carrying my bike over the top of the slide, I went back to get Denise's. When I stepped up with her bike I felt something pull in my back. I didn't think much of it at the time. After four hours on a ride I figured I'd be sore. Well, when I woke up last Monday I could barely move. Yesterday and today are the first days I've been able to bend over at all. It's still sore, but getting better. My doctor didn't seem too concerned. He gave me vicodin and said to take it easy. I'm hoping to be back into my normal routine by next week. I have a BIG test in TKD in 1 month and I need to get in top shape for it. It will be about 60 minutes of demonstrating my knowledge, followed by board breaking and fighting. The board breaking is piece of cake, but the fighting will be 5-6 fights with minimal rest in between.
Sooooooo....that's the long version =)

Matt,
Thanks, I appreciate your willingness to share your experience. Whoa the 160 range is gettting down there, depending on how tall you are thats skinny. I think I would be sickly looking. What did you do to your back? must be relativly serious for you not to exercise for 9 days. Hope it heals up soon for you.

Hey Jeff,
ask away man, I'll answer anything you want to know. I actually haven't done much tracking for the last year or so. The first 9 montns were religious tracking every day. Now I'm pretty comfy with just keeping track through the day.
I will probably start tracking again here pretty soon. I've got a TKD tournament this summer that I'd like to fight in, but I need to get my weight into the 160's if I want to fight middle weight. I've never had my weight that low, so I don't even know if it's realistic. I'm mostly concerned that to get my weight that low I'll have to get my body fat % lower than is realistic for me to keep it at. We'll just have to see. Either way, once my back is better I'm gonna be training hard! I haven't exercised in 9 days due to a back injury. =(

Hey Matt,
Great post. I was thinking about asking you this stuff just the other day. Do you still keep the food log up everyday or have you gotten comfortable enough to not measure everything? I have gotten a little more lax on measuring some stuff, but I rather am enjoying the whole process. Measuring and logging food give me the feeling of control and that is a comfort. Anyway thanks.

Most of the weight loss definitely came from eating a healthy diet. I ate lots of healthy carbs, some proteins and fats. I limited my red meat to 1-2 times per month, lots of chicken, and tons of complex carbs. Also at least 64 oz of water each day. I didn't follow the SP menus, but I did follow the recommended carbs, protein, fat numbers.
Typical day....oatmeal or some sort of cereal such as puffed wheat or puffed rice for breakfast. Then I would have tons of snacks throughout the day. Carrots, celery, pretzels, fat free granola bars, fat free yogurt, whole wheat crackers, fruits, etc. I would just all day long spreading it over the day. I would eat a sandwich on low calorie bread around noon. Fat free mayo, mustard, a few thin slices of meat and low fat cheese slices. Some times add some pickles, onions and so on.
For dinner it varies. Chicken strips, BBQ Chicken, whole wheat pizza, fat free hot dogs, chicken salad, chicken tacos on raw corn tortillas, salads, ham and baked potato, veggies, veggies, veggies. And for a snack, popcorn.
I really mostly cut out the processed sugar and junk food. Not too mention we stopped eating out at restaurants. We were eating out 2-3 times per week. Then for 9 months EVERYTHING we ate was homemade. I took breakfast and lunch to work as well.
I would plan my daily food the day before. So I would know EXACTLY what I was allowed to eat the next day. That way I knew I was in my calorie range for sure. For 9 months I didn't go over or under on my calorie range for a single day. By keeping my calories in range, drinking lots of water, and getting a little exercise I was able to drop the weight steadily. I actually NEVER hit a plateau in 9 months. I went from 265 to 172 without stopping.
Now I don't track my food so often because I've learned to live a healthier life. We out once in a while, but I'm within reaon.
Let me know if I can help any more!

A new pontoon boat would be a GREAT reward! =) I found motivation in my wife. Both of our families have history of bad heath. I love my wife more than ANYTHING in the world. I don't want to have a heart attack and die young. I'm looking forward to a long healthy life with her and want to do anything I can to achieve that. I'm sure you will find something, or someone, that will help keep pushing you.

| Thanks for the words of encouragement Matt. I guess I have not found the proper motivation yet,was their a thunder from heaven that gave you the motivation, words just don't seem to be all it takes for me. Mabe I could promise my self a new pontoon boat for my reward or get a new motorcycle LOL, NOW THATS MOTIVATION, TEXAS STYLE.

I was fortunate in that I was able to stick to the program for 9 months straight without "cheating". It made it "easy" to lose the weight and never feel bad about myself. Realistically most people will have a hard time sticking to it at some point. I had the right motivation to keep me going every time I thought about sneaking someting.
If you want it bad enough you'll find yourself doing all the right stuff. But don't get down on yourself for a step back once in while. SP is about learning a healthy, but REALISTIC, lifestyle. Realistic means having a piece of cake now and then, etc.
As far as the time it takes. It took a long time to put on the weight, so give it some time to take it off. I lost 90 lbs in 9 months, so it's definitely possible to lose 100+ in a year. One year out of your life is a short time, just take it day by day and week by week, you'll be there before you know it. And you've got all us around here to help you along the way.

| I do have found memories of pier fishing at Catalina Island as a young kid. The fun part was that we used drop-lines instead of poles. We caught many a fish this way, and it was always fun to wind the string up instead of using a rod and real.

| matt the fishing piers offer more fun than a boat cost is 7or8 dollars for 24hrs their open all the time and certain times depending on whats bitting fishing is fast and fun, ours in galveston are well lighted and patroled for safety, Ive spent many a day and night on them, caught lots of big fish usually on the hi tide time, get a 2wheel dolly tie your poles and chairs and ice chest down and enjoy.IF you go during the day its allways windy and a great place to get some sun.take a big hat lol catfish1

I fell in love with freshwater after my best night fishing with my brother and friend. The 3 of us caught 7 trout, 40 cats, and 200 crappie. What a blast!!! From 6pm to 6am we were non-stop. I would like saltwater more if it were out off a boat, but that's too expensive these days.
And you'll lose that fat faster than you realize. Stick with the program and you'll get there!

I love fishing as well. Ironically, I live 2 minutes from the Pacific Ocean and don't care much for Saltwater fishing. Give me some fresh water, some beverage of choice, and let me sit and do nothing! =)
