I find I am either under or WAY over, I need to get better about eating more frequently so I don't get so hungrey that I just start eating - when I eat throughout the day I can stay on-track, just hard for me to do it when I'm at work - and on weekends runnign around it seems like always grabing junk food. I read an article the other day about making sure I have water with me - I'm hoping that works, trying it today and seems like I've been better.

I enojoy tracking the calories. Lately I've managed to stay in the 1400-1500 calorie range.

Keeping calories in check for me is a matter of pre-planning my meals. I also found that after the first couple of weeks I just didn't want the junk food anymore.

I'm having a little problem with the calories each day. I have the cardio and strength exercises down. But its staying within my limit on calories . Today I'm going to start watching it alot closer. I'm thinking if I wasn't doing all that cardio where would I be.

What realy helps me not to exceed my cal limits is to have a small portion of protein at every meal. My protein mainly consists of chicken, fish beans/legumes. 60 - 90 grams is enough but make sure it is lean / low fat.

I find I have a basically bottemless pit in my belly so I need to be careful not to go over my calorie budget. I try to exceed my cardio goals so that probably explains some of it but I really do enjoy eating.

Just wouldn't reccomend the whole fasting thing at any resort. Tried it for a week on just cranberry juice. That was awful. I gained the weight right back afterwards cause my body just craved more and more.

Chuckabbe I find that I usually go over my cardio limit also and struggle to get all my calories in. But I always assume I guess a little high on my calories sometimes and may not burn all the calories during my cardio. I always feel that having that buffer probably doesnt hurt because I have been losing consistantly.

I find that a good whole grain breakfast is the key to staying full during the day. Once I get to lunch I have no problems for the rest of the day but I also have a 100 to 200 calorie snack in between breakfast and Lunch and another between lunch and dinner to keep my metabolism working.

My perception is that I often get down to the end of the day and realize I have not consumed enough calories, especially since my cardio workouts tend to be 700-800 calories or so. My target cardio caloric burn is set at 217, so I could probably eat a little above my calorie intake range that day and still be ok. Does that make any sense?

One thing I have found, if I am feeling hungry, I can take a few good pulls off my water bottle and that helps for the short term

One great way I stay full is on weekends when I have whole wheat pancakes. They have more calories than normal pancakes, but I'm not looking in the fridge an hour later either.

I'm like a lot of guys here too, where sometimes I have a hard time meeting my minimum if I'm eating the right things. Then I usually eat things like almonds that are high in cals, and low on saturated fat to get up into my ranges.

Eating whole grains helps a lot with 'feeling' full. I understand that's because it digests much slower than process/enriched grains. Start using a lot of whole grain and cut out 'empty' calories (fried foods, sweets, etc).

The other thing I found is that you can eat a lot of certain fruits and veggies (carrots, for example) and not get many calories. Baby carrots are only like 4 calories each... you can have like 10 baby carrots and 2 tbsp of lowfat ranch (kraft light done right is my favorite) and you'll bet like 150 calories or something.

Caloric intake doesn't always go hand in hand with perception of "fullness". In other words, if you ate a big bowl of icecream at 8am, it may be 1500 calories, but you will be hungry pretty early in the day.

It may be that you need to adjust the actual foods you're eating. Eating lots of fruits and veggies allows you to eat more food throughout the day helping you feel less hungry. Experiment a little with your daily foods and see if you can find a good balance with lower calories foods that will allow you to eat more.

I wouldn't worry about your metabolism from eating lower calories. If you're eating the recommended calories and getting exercise your metabolism should actually speed up and help you burn fat quicker. Good luck, let us know if you have any questions.

Once you adjust your eating habits to a more healthy selection, one that's high in fiber and whole grains, you'll be surprised at how satisfied you are throughout the day. At least I am. There are some days that I have trouble just meeting my minimum calorie allowance. Drink plenty of water, eat lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains and you'll be alright!
