I have a mid-term reward set up for myself...when I get down to 165 pounds, I'm going to buy myself an iPod. I'm getting sick of the TV that they show at the gym, and hopefully it'll keep me more motivated through the workout.

I wanted to chime in here. I havnt rewarded myself yet but will be going on vacation and that will be my reward. I feel everytime I look in the mirror, get on the scale or use the tape measure and see results is a reward.
As far as the treadmill, I love it. You can get such a variety out of one workout. I am usually walking so I go between a 5% and a 10% incline and when I am running it is usually for a short time but pretty quick. By mixing it up like that during a workout; before I know it I have been on that thing for 60 minutes and burned over 600 calories.

Lee,
lol...well, I get an email everytime someone creates a new thread in the Guy's Lounge. It lets me respond to people pretty quickly if I'm on my computer.
To get a profile pic up you'll want to create a "SparkPage". To find out about SparkPages click on the link in the top right corner of the page. It will explani what to do, but if you need help just ask us, a lot of the guys here can help.

Hey Matt, Wow...you didn't take long to respond. Yeah, I use the treadmill for about 30 minutes 3 times a week...try to burn about 220 calories during that time. Tell me how you get your picture posted on here.... Thanks, Lee

Lee,
Thanks for the compliments! =)
I exercise a lot now. I do TaeKwonDo2-3 times per week, golf once a week, treadmill 1-4 times per week, strength training 1-4 timers per week, mountain biking 1-2 times when weather permits.
Treadmills are actually better for weight loss than most "machines". They can just have an impact on your knees and joints. The fact is, the impact of running helps burn a few extra calories over something like an elliptical.
If you enjoy the treadmill, by all means use one. I enjoy running on the ones at the gym, and I even have bad knees. The biggest key is just getting the exercise. Whether it's swimming, elliptical, treadmill, bicycle, whatever you can do will help.

I am interested in this as well, as that's one of the things I'm supposed to do in the stage I'm in on the SP program - reward yourself. Like GP I tend to get what I want anyhow, so I don't do it. I've heard some people 'reward' themselves with a big meal, but that seems to defeat the purpose.
As to the treadmills, I haven't read that, but it wouldn't surprise me. But doing a treadmill is much much better than sitting around figuring out that you should be using a treadmill.

Hello Matt, I appreciated your message. You look like you're in great shape. How much exercising do you do? I've been reading that tread mills are not the best way to shed the pounds....what's your view on that? Thanks,
Lee
p.s. the before and after pictures are striking!!!

You know, I never used a "reward" system. But that's cuz I usually just buy stuff when I want it anyway, lol. The new toy is a great idea, going to a concert, some new clothes. Basically, something you may not do in ordinary circumstances.

I can never quite decide what would be the ideal 'reward' for losing a pound or two. Do any of you guys have some good suggestions that would make it seem like it was worth the effort? Money? A new toy? What???
