| I have to agree with ya golf. I wear the half sheild and it doesnt bother me at all, it's just like wearing my glasses. some kid in the A.H.L. just lost his career after getting hit in the eye with a puck. I feel sorry that he lost his eye, but if he had been smart and wore the visor he'd still be playing. bones heal, teeth can be replaced but vision cant be. as someone who is losing their hearing I know all to well what it is like to be losing one of the senses that we take for granted.

| My take on the cage vs shield is that a broken jaw won't kill a guy. You wire his jaw shut, replace some teeth, it doesn't affect his life in the long run. Getting hit in the eye can kill a guy or cause blindness. But like you said, it's their choice, just make them sign waivers saying they won't hold the league responsible.

I'm not sure if making them mandatory is the best way to go. Obviously, an eyeshield won't protect the bottom half of your face, and broken jaws happen all the time in the NHL.
If you're going to make eyeshields mandatory, why not the full shield? Since that's a hard enough sell, I doubt the shields will become mandatory.
I look at it this way too: these guys are making hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions PER YEAR between their late teens to hopefully late 30s/early 40s. If facial protection isn't worth it to them, and they're willing to risk their livelihoods rather than learn to live with an eyeshield, hey, it's their funeral.
I play rec hockey, and I always use a full wire cage. I hate it, but I imagine I'd hate losing an eye worse ;)

| I'd like to see it. I know there's guys against it, but there were people who were against mandatory helmets too. Now everyone wears the helmet and no one had a problem with it. Taking a puck to the eye can kill someone.

| just saw where Bill Guerin suffered a broken orbital bone and was wondering when some of these guy's are gonna wisen up and put a visor on and ditch the machismo attitude. I saw what happened to Bryan Berard when he was with the Leafs and that scared the daylights outta me and I wear a visor. was just wondering what everyone else thought of making visors mandatory. know they talked of grandfathering the rule in.
