I found this site in a recient quest to get healthy and in shape. I just joined the local YMCA, and I've found that if you have a friend to work out with you and keep you motovated it helps. I also like to make everyday at work a chance to excercise and be more active. I always try to oneup myself and go the extra mile. My boss notices it and that just makes it more rewarding.

MCNARYM,

Our family as started a game and if we dont put our fork down between bites that person either has to clear the table, do dishes, etc......It has slowed down our eating and I am filled up after one plate instead of going for seconds and thirds!

It makes dinner fun and when you are not keeping your mouth full I found out you can have a wonderful conversation with you family at dinner time.

One more tip that I have been doing. Chew each bite of food at least 20 times. Set down the fork and knife inbetween bites. This slows you down while eating letting you fill up. I used to eat everything in a matter of minutes and still feel hungry. I would then have seconds and after 30 minutes be stuffed.

I would say the biggest thing that worked for my wife and me was planning our food the day before. We knew exactly what we were going to eat the next day, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks were all planned at least 1 day ahead. This way we NEVER had to worry if our calories were going out of range.

I have found that splitting my breakfast, lunch, and snack up into Ziploc baggies then eating one every hour until dinner to work wonders. I am always eating, and always feeling satisfied. This will keep your digestive system working all the time. It will also shrink your stomach so you fill up quicker.

The first 3 weeks I didn't change the breakfast, lunch and snack foods which made it easy to pack each night. I'm sure it is funny watching me walk around with my lunch box (everywhere). I have started mixing up some of the foods to give me some verity.

My advice - use the calories recommendation, find ways to re-think what and how you eat so you ENJOY the ride to weight loss.

tricks:
1) Eat your calories, don't drink them. it is a lot more filling and you can drop tons of calories by dropping soda and coffee. (it will be a tough month or two getting acclimated by then it is not bad)
2) canned fruit as a sweet snack. You'd be surprised how well this works.
3) brown bag lunch. figure out a couple good sandwhichs you can make and save money/calories by ditching fast food. Also means you can do a bigger dinner and balance it out.
4) don't skip breakfast.

that's my short list of ideas. Don;t worry about a fast or slow weight loss, as long as it "feel natural" and less like a dieting so it sticks.

Caesar,

I started over 2 months ago and have already lost 34 pounds. The weight came off fast at first and thought this thing was easy but it soon slowed down but I am still losing 2 lbs a week consistantly and that is where I should be. I am finding out that you really need to drink your water, and excercise. I hated excercise and now I am addicted to it. Find something you like doing and do it consistantly. I also am finding out that eat about 6 times a day and that keeps me from eating too much at any 1 meal.

Good luck and if you follow the SP plan you will lose with no problem!

The best motivation I have found was my wife being in awe of all the extra energy I have had when we are, I guess a good way to put it would be, being amorousness (thats not the right word but bleh).

She has shown more interest in me since I have being showing interest in my health.

That has been all the motivation I needed. =D

Good luck and hope to see you around.

welcome to SP!!!! This is a great place, you're gonna do awesome. I will try to post some stuff later when I have more time. For now one of the things you can do is scroll to the very top of the page and click "Success Stories". You will find lots of tips from people who have been successful, and they're always in the same place.

I'll be back by later to post some more, but again, welcome!

Hello everyone,
My name is Chris and have just recently found this site. I'm 5-11 and weigh about 260. Hoping to be 220 by July first (200 total would be great), which is quite a goal to accomplish and I NEED ADVICE. I've found many great tips browsing through the board, but have a hard time remembering where I saw them from time to time, haha. So if everyone could help out by posting just a few short tips or ideas that have helped them I would really appreciate it. That way we could always just pull up this thread to help keep us on track and remind us of what we need to do. Anything is welcome--from diet, exercise, motivation, etc., you get the point. Thank you all in advance and I will be in touch for a long time I hope.
