No Insurance. This testing was purely elective on my part.
I had the RMR portion completed today. I am very pleased with the results of the initial tests.

Cool, $170 sounds really cheap for all that testing and follow-up given what ripoffs the retail rate usually is on testing of any sort, did insurance cover part or negotiate the rate for you?

Chris,
Sounds like you're doing well!! I'll be interested to hear about the results from the follow up test.

Well, I took the plunge and completed the VO2 test earlier in the week. The VO2 Max is a measurement of my lungs ability to do work. I surprised myself and the young lady testing me with a VO2 Max of 44.3 ml/kg/min. This placed me well into the above average range for a 38 yr old male. I have RMR testing on Friday morning.
As an amateur athlete, the benefit as I see it is that I will know my resting heart rate which will give me my minimum calorie burn/day. I should then be able to accurately predict my weight loss/gain based on exercise. I also now know at which heart rate my body most efficiently burn fat (for me the target is 147 bpm which burns 7.6 fat for every 10.4 KCal/Min).
The Trainer/tester should be able to also offer a detailed program to expand zone 2 for even better fat burning capability.
The moral of the story is that good anaerobic exercise is not going to be at my heart's maximum rate. I was also somewhat surprised at how close the pre-programmed Polar heart rate monitors were at estimating the best fat burn range by simple resting rate tests. For reference, I paid $170 for the total test package which includes follow-up testing in 12 weeks along with 12 weeks of access to a Nutritionist.
