For long walks I like country.
For a fast paced circuit work out I like 70's disco - B-Gees, Donna Summer, - but some of the hip-rap stuff does the trick too. Just not gangster rap.

Excellent ideas for workout music people! I find myself most invigorated by listening to:

Contemporary Christian - David Crowder Band is my favorite, followed by Chris Tomlin, Newsboys, Third Day, & Jeremy Camp

Hip Hop/Rap - Usher, Eminem, 50 Cent, Nelly, Outkast & 2Pac, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Ludacris, Matchbox 20, Michael Jackson (he's a freak, but he WAS a darned good musician)

Metal - Hoobastank, Creed, Metallica, GNR, Nirvana, & Bush

Yep...as you can see, I'm about as diverse with my musical tastes as you're going to get!

My current tracks for an hour of rowing are as follows.

Just Like a Pill - Pink
Sugar We're Going Down - Fall Out Boy
Somebody Told Me - The Killers
Are You Gonna Be My Girl? - Jet
Hella Good - No Doubt
Fields of Athenry - Dropkick Murphys
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
Country Grammar - Nelly
Sandstorm (Epic Remix) - Darude
Boys and Girls - Good Charlotte
Gasolina (Remix) - Daddy Yankee
Hey Ya - Outkast
Tipsy - J-Kwon
American Idiot - Green Day
Number One - Nelly
It's My Life - Bon Jovi

There's nothing like coming down the home stretch, legs burning and lungs screaming for air, with Bon Jovi pumping out of the speakers loud enough that you can feel the bass.

You can't go wrong with the classics. The Clash have a strong beat that keeps you moving, also T-Rex "Bang a Gong" is good. George Harrison's "Wah Wah" and "What is Love". Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere" and "Cocaine Blues" are upbeat as well.

DEFINITELY either Hip-Hop or Hard Rock during my workouts... just about ANYTHING on DMX's first album gets me amped, "Bodies" by Disturbed, Metallica's "Enter Sandman", etc.

Tom Coffee, if you like Crystal Method, Orbital, Fatboy Slim, I highly recommend www.somafm.com. They have a nice choice of radio stations there but the main one is Groove Salad. It's a nice ambient down tempo station. I listen to it whenever I'm awake and near anything connected to the internet. They also have stations for faster electronica, very very down tempo chill music, and even some indy pop stuff.

When I'm on my walks, I started out listening to Pink Floyd. For the last month or so though, it's been either the Metallica S&M album, or Coldplay X&Y.

By far though, I listen to Groove Salad on SomaFm. I very highly encourage everyone to give it a try. Aside from all that, my ten favorite bands, in order:

1. Tool
2. A Perfect Circle
3. Dave Matthews Band
4. Pantera
5. Pink Floyd
6. Future Sound of London
7. Orbital
8. Bjork
9. Aphex Twin
10. Bad Religion

Heh heh heh
Broke out some oldies but goodies. The 60s and 70s have great songs to fast walk on treadmill.

Does anyone remember the iron Butterfly. What long song did they make famous? Man it was like 14 minutes (long version). I just finished listening to it.

I love to work out to Shannon Noll's song "Lift"
Its probably not readily available outside of Australia, but its a really good song for making you feel like giving 110%

Cheers,

Tim.

I like to listen to anime music when I work out. Today was my first day and I made a CD with the songs to get me going at first then after 25 minutes. After that, the last couple of songs are slow so I can focus on cooling down.

I just started listening to island music while I work out. There is something about Don Ho singing "Tiny Bubbles" that really gets me going.

George T and the Delaware D's, ZZ Top and Lynerd Skynerd are usually faced paced enough. I used to listen to the Fabulous Thunderbirds sometimes too.

I usually listen to something with a strong beat (Disturbed, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack) when I'm lifting weights, but relaxing music (DMB, Coldplay) helps me when I run.

I like to watch TV while working out so if I usually go to VH1 classics and get a good beat usually.

It usually varies for me. Most of the time I need some good get up and go music. Other days I will listen to NPR. Just depends on my mood and how energetic I feel going into the workout. If I am feeling sluggish something with a good beat will usually help.

I usually watch the news channels instead of music. It makes me so mad I have to take it out on something, so it ends up being the weights.

I used to listen to Kenny Rogers, but I realized I spent more time singing than actually working out.

Now, I don't listen to any music when I work out. I am too afraid that I will turn on some Juice Newton and spend my workout time doing my best rendition of "Queen of Hearts" or "Angel of the Morning".

I don't really go for the hip hop, but I've found that some dance/funk/electronica things work well for my 34 year old ears... Things like The Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, even The Gorillaz kinda works...

Oh man, you listen to Social Distortion, GOLFPRO? :D They're my heros. ^_^ I usually listen to trance/rave/techno music when I work out cause the beat keeps me going. But a bit of punk never hurts, either. It takes my mind off how tired I really am.

Generally I listen to fast music. Mostly punk with some heavy metal now and then. Most common band would be Social Distortion.

I hope you don't mind a girl poppin' in here, but when I read your post it made me laugh and I had to share. I've discovered that 80s heavy metal is perfect for the speed that I jog! It's not stuff I would normally listen to, but after trying one of my husband's playlists, I have to admit it makes a huge difference when pushing through a run.

I've been told by my trainer that although I don't voluntarily listen to Rap/Hip Hop, I have significantly better workouts when this music is playing in the gym. I'm guessing the beat helps keep the reps going when I'm fatiguing. I do notice that louder music helps both of my brain cells to focus on the work at hand.
