I agree about the excess weight - I am targeting to lose 70 pounds, and that 'belly bulge' sure makes some of the Pilates exercise routines difficult.
Although my wife definitely gets a good laugh out of it :-)

| I've found that if you're carrying just 30 pounds of extra weight that the extra weight in your stomach makes these exerices hard. As I'm closer to goal weight, I'll adapt them. I'm definitly interested in Pilates

I'd sign up for your program. I'm 1/4 Pirate on my mom's side, 1/3 gay on my dad's. I'll watch for your progress.
Thanks Chris

I keep reading "Pilates Workout Challenge" as "Pirates Workout Challenge" which really sounds like it's more up my alley. Some possible exercises:
-Cannon pushes -Walking the plank, and then walking back -Swabbing the deck (houseboat work counts as exercise) -Over the shoulder cutlass hoist -Lifting treasure chests -Digging holes in sand -Rowing for land -Pillaging definitely burns calories, though it curiously isn't included in the SparkPeople activity list

| I use a lot of weight in my routines. The more muscle you build/workout the more energy you use. Also, many studies indicate that your metabolism stays higher for a significantly longer time period when compared to cardio exercise. Not to say that we should cut out cardio. I try to balance both. I'm overweight, but have a lot of muscle mass as a result of my working out. I can't wait to lose the fat on top of it. Pilates? I have the ball, mat, straps, weight, dumbells at home - I guess an instuction video would be the next thing to get as I have no idea what I'm doing for Pilates. Another thing to consider is Yoga. It's another great way to build the central core - essential to all other exercises and overall general health. My challange isn't exercise - it's calorie intake. I will weigh myself at the end of this month and I hope the news is good. I've been monitoring and experimenting with my nutritional intakes over the last three months. From March 01, I'll need to turn up the exercise even more and turn down the calories, I fear. I try to stay under 1500 calories a day and I think I may need to drop to 1000 to see results. We'll see in ten days!

| Id need a book, I believe resistance bands, wrist weights all work as it requires extra effort in the muscles, the only thing I think is you need to keep altering so that the muscles dont get used to a consistent weight, even a can of baked beans is good when you are first starting out.

| I bought two 15 lb. weights today. never have used weight to exercise before. Anyways, I see others postinfg useing Pilates, I never knew they resistant bands. My question to you is Do they really work? I dont know of anyone useing them up to now. David

Hey guys - anyone up to a Pilates Challenge? I am a 38 year old married male trying to lose 70 pounds and amongst my workout routines I want to add Pilates - have only tried it a few times so far, and am really bad at it ... but what a great workout. It is also an excellent stretch and toning routine.
