I agree with you Bart. I think Oklahoma could potentially go 12-0, with 10-2 a great possibility. An early road trip to Oregon will not be easy and of course the Oct. 7th game against Texas. You also have a 2 roadgame stretch against Texas Tech an Missouri that will not be easy. Bomar has to step up and we all know what Adrian Peterson is capable of.
Hey Tennesse fans....have you seen this?!?!? The founder of Pilot Corp. and his wife have given $32.5 million to the University of Tennessee, the largest individual gift the university has ever received. I think the new Smokey mascot may get a new game sweater with this kind of cash! Here is the link to the story. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1110AP_University_Gift.html

Did you guys see this? Mississippi State football coach Sylvester Croom indefinitely suspended six players Tuesday after they were charged with assaulting a police officer last weekend. Not many details but it appears they were out on the town and got involved in a fight.
I also thought this was interesting. The NCAA plans to conduct drug testing on Division I athletes this summer. They reserve the right to do it on campus, at their homes, or even on their jobs. I don't know if it is random or if they plan on testing everyone.
I am hoping to get to go to Georgias Spring Game this Saturday and check out the QB competition but it looks like the weather may not cooperate. Anyone else seen or planning to see any spring practice? How 'bout sharing any local news on your teams progress.....

Georgia lost a great Bulldog last week when Bill Hartman died at the age of 90 last Thursday. He was an All-American fullback and Georgia's captain in 1937 and briefly played for the Washington Redskins before becoming the Bulldogs' backfield coach. He held that position from 1939-56 and was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1984. He was very active here locally in the Athens community and the University. He will be missed. It is also a sad time for Vol fans. If you haven't heard, Smokey VIII died Friday of health problems. Georgia fans love to poke fun at Smokey as well as they poke fun at our mascot UGA.....but the SEC is family and we mourn the loss of this great animal. I am sure he will be replaced with another fine speciman. As we say about our fallen mascots, "Damn good dawg."

| Well our young qb got arrested agian for underage drinking. Rumors are really kicking up about our new juco transfer getting some reps this year and maybe replacing Bomar at the helm. Some kids just have to learn the hardway. You would think that being a starter for a top ten team would be enough to make them want to walk a straight line. I hate to see young kids blow great oppertunities.

i do agree the ND agreement is ridiculous. the big east also does not deserve a bcs bid either. aside from wvu, the big east is notoriously a soft conference. the big ten has been recruiting ND for a long long time...but there is no way nd will give up the big lucrative contracts NBC gives them. too much on the line financially for them to forfeit and join a conference. sad, but it's the way college athletics works.
| Do you guys think the big east deserves a lock BCS bid. Their division seems really weak. I do like west virg this year, they sure looked good to end the season. But other than them the division is a joke. Another lock which is a bit unfair is the agreement between Notre Dame and the BCS, ND just needs to join the big 10 or big east, they would lose some of their fabled rivalries but no conference is hurting them.

| Been trying to tell a lot of Texans that lately. I suppose that after the Rose Bowl we are understandably a mite cocky but comparing not only the talent levels of Oklahoma and U.T. but the recruiting classes I have to maintain that I like the Sooners long term prospects some better.

| As I said before, keep a close eye on Oklahoma. If they pass their early test then watch out. They could contend right up until the end. Never forget that Bob Stoops is a great coach and Oklahoma has great athletes.
| Oklahoma has a young core too. Watching them all season you could see our young quartback gain confidense every game. Stoops stuck with him all year even after startin 2-3. We only lost 1 game after that point, and of those 4 loses all 4 teams were ranked in the top 25. Tenn never let there qb get any time of rhythm. Thats why they were not winning close games.
| you have got a young core, which will come through once they realize they can succeed ath this level. you will be set for a while after that.
| I agree that you need a captain at quarterback that the team can depend on. That is the VOLS Archilles Heel right now. We are looking for another Payton Manning, and hope we find him soon.
| I rhink the Vols will finish no better than 3rd in the sec. I like LSU to win the title. Tenn never seems to get rolling the past few years. i dont think you can win with a qb by commitee system. No clear captian at the helm really hurts your team and breaks up the flow of the game.
The local paper in Athens said the coaches are very pleased with the Bulldogs spring practice so far. Should be an interesting competition at QB with 4 capable starters. They are focusing on run defense (UGA was 52nd in the nation last year) and dropped passes. Those two areas can keep you out of the top 10!!!!
Fellas, let us know how your teams spring practice is going.

Yep
1st three games will tell the tale of the VOLS. We have had quarterback problems for number of years now. Fulmer has got to change his thinking or the fans may help change his mind. LSU as we speak looks the best. Got to wonder about South Carolina. They do have the better coaching staff in SEC

I'm not so sure about either side of the ball for Penn State next year. Posluszny is coming back, but Hali is gone, and the ENTIRE secondary is graduating.
The offense will definitely be different. Anthony Morelli should get the starting nod, but he's definitely not the athlete that Robinson is. I don't know if Morelli has the mobility to run the option like he did.
Hopefully this year's recruiting class can contribute like the freshmen did last year, or they might be in some trouble. *fingers crossed*

If you scroll down to my top five for next year, notice that I have Oklahoma at number five. If they get past Oregon early then look out....The Sooners could roll. That is a fantastic call on West Virginia. I got to see them first hand give the Georgia Defense the whippin' of a lifetime. That offense is as fast as I have seen, especially on turf. Several coaches are scrambling now to learn West Virginia spread offense. I do think next year will be strong for the SEC, especially LSU, but it is going to be tough for anyone to come out undefeated. LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Tenn., Georgia (Go Dawgs!)Florida, and look out for Arkansas. These could all be top ten "type" teams but will be battered and bruised by the end of the season.
As always, look for someone strong to emerge from the Big 10. Tell me who you think its going to be Big 10 Guys????? Also, someone please comment on life after Barry at Wisconsin.

You have some good points. I stated earlier that there is such parity among teams AND conferences that anyone can lose on any given Saturday. It gets real hard to compare conferences and there are different criteria for what we can use to judge. I do think the SEC is toughest from top to bottom, but our top teams may not be as good as another conferences top teams. Trying to rank conferences is a moving target and that is what makes it fun. I don't care whether it is the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, or ACC....I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL!
Who is your favorite team Jas?
| You guys are doggin the big 12 but the big 10 wasnt too good this year either. Their bowl record was sad and a weak big 12 north team to down a ranked big 10 team (neb-32 mich-28). Then a over rated northwestern squad got drummed by Ucla. Two of the top ranked teams in the nation lost to OU and Texas, OU was rebuiling too. The big 12 is as strong as the big 10, pac10 and the Acc our bowl record showed that. The only conference that did better was the SEC.

I agree with you as well. We hope people in our Navy, Army, Air Force, etc...would lead by good examples and a solid foundation our country has set for us. I just hope these crimes are not committed because they think they can get away with them since they have been spoon-fed (most of the time) since they were little, and believe they can find someone to help them out of this situation. Pray this young lady gets the help and justice she deserves.

| I agree 100%. When I say "these guys are prone to mistakes", I was referring to the fact that most people expect better behavior from young men in our acadamies and was not referring to his status as an athlete. I know these things happen in all walks of life but I am take back a little more when it happens at a fine institution. Whether they are athletes or not, they should be treated just as you or I would in the same scenario. Again, I hope this young lady gets justice.

i have heard about the story at Navy. when you say "these guys are prone to mistakes"....when a young lady in every day life is raped or sexually abused, the offender is prosecuted to the fullest and most often not given a second chance. but for these young athletes, they are often given second (and sometimes third) chances because they are athletes. sure they may be gifted athletically, but they need to be held to the same standards. this is a very tough stance for me, being that i work with student athletes every day of my life. i see these kids as just that...KIDS. they are young, they are learning, but they are making their own decisions and for that they deserve to be held to the same standards as everyone else.

Wow! Michigan and Ohio State under one roof.....I bet that makes for an interesting day in the fall. Truly a great rivalry.
Did anyone read the story about Navy's Quarterback Lamar Owens? He is charged with raping a female midshipman in her dorm room. Lets hope that this is not true, but it certainly does not sound good. I know these guys are prone to mistakes, but this is not what I expect from one of the Acadamies. I pray for the young Lady involved........

It is very tough to come out of the SEC, Big Ten, and even the ACC now without a loss. I would like to see strength of schedule weigh more heavily in rankings if there is not going to be some sort of playoff. I hope the Big 10 and the SEC start mixing it up a little during the regular season as teams add better games to their schedule. These conferences meeting more often would have to force pollsters to consider schedules. For instance, take an SEC school that has only one loss but otherwise ran the SEC schedule AND beat a Big 10 foe (or vice versa). How could you not consider that team a national championship contender when USC's toughes opponent is Cal???? No matter how much talent USC has, I don't think they run the table two years in a row if they were playing in the SEC or Big 10. Not taking any credit from USC because they did take care of their business over the last few years.
PS - I would rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Ted Kennedy!
Go Dawgs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
| exactly my point. I think the Big Ten and SEC are my two favorite conferences as well. The problem is cyclical and has to do with the pre-season rankings. Because Texas, USC or Oklahoma will always be number 1 or 2 - based on the fact that they don't get challenged all year (11-0,10-1,9-2 record) and make it to the national championship game, and they always seem to have a "great" recruiting class coming in. Then during the season when there is another worthy no-loss team they don't go to the national championship game, based solely on the Pre-Season Rankings.

I agree with your earlier comments...the Big 12 and Pac 10 have been horrible the last 5 years at least. So truely how hard is it to get one team with some talent to run the table in that conference? Iowa State and Colorado both teams who would have finished near the bottom in the SEC or Big 10, were atop the Big 12 North and then Texas plays a garbage Colorado team for the Big 12 title.
Look out for the Big Ten and SEC next year. These 2 conferences should kick out a lot of contenders and spoil a lot of hopes and dreams.
| definitely. I think the big 12 and the pac 10 are the 2 conferences left without much parity - but even still, you are right, USC almost lost a couple of games this year.
| I agree that the conference is down, but isn't it amazing how much parity exists in college football. It makes for some great upsets. It is difficult to go undefeated in any conference now.

| HAHA! I thought I was going to get ripped after I posted that. Certainly didn't mean to offend any Big 12 or Pac 10 fans, but it happens every year, USC, Oklahoma, or Texas end up in the national championship game every year and are never really threatened throughout the year, with the exception of playing in the Big 12 or Pac 10 Championship....and some of those weren't even worth watching this year. Didn't Colorado play in a division championship game? They were at BEST marginal.

I'm glad you said that... everyone here in Oklahoma is like 'Big 12 is the toughest conference'... whatever.
Texas will fall flat on their face. They were Vince Young. Mack Brown find ways to lose WITH VY, how do you expect him to win without him?

I don't really know. It is hard to tell with college football every year. All I know is that USC and Texas always have a shot because they only have to play like 1 or 2 tough games to get to the national championship. The big 12 and pac 10 are weak.

Why my beloved Dawgs are not on the list. We have to win AT South Carolina, Colorado, Tennessee, Florida, at Auburn, and Georgia Tech. Should be exciting, but replacing DJ Shockly, Leonard Pope, Greg Blue and other NFL bound Dawgs will be tough. We have a lot of talent for sure, but getting past these road game -especially Florida in Jacksonville could be treacherous!

Give me your top 5 predictions for next year. Here is mine.
1. LSU - tons of talent, nice early schedule, killer second half schecule that will be very difficult to survive unscathed.
2. Texas - Momentum, Momentum, Momentum.
3. USC - See #2
4. Florida - Look for the Gators to be back with a vengance but like LSU, a killer road schedule could cost them along the way.
5. Oklahoma - If they get past Oregon on opening day, the Sooners will stay in the mix.
Others - Ohio State - lots of D to replace, but they can do it. Auburn - great team with a weak non-conference schedule. Tenn. - if Ainge performs, the Vols will be strong again. W. Virginia - Schedule sets up nice, they have to get past Louisville.
*I know I am missing some. You Big 10 guys - tell me what you are looking for next year.

Mine could have been last year, the Gophers vs Michigan State at Michigan State. It was freezing rain, 15 mph winds, hail, and by the end snow. Not the best weather I have been in...

| Mine was actually a high school football game in 1973 for the district championship. About halfway through the second quarter a cold front camr through and the temperature dropped 30 degrees in 10 minutes and the snow and sleet were soon after. By the end of the third quarter you'd of thought you were at Lambeau Field like you see in the old football highlights movies on ESPN. The snack bar sold out of coffee and hot chocolate in10 minutes. The game ended and it was 18 degrees with a wind chill of -5. This was in October and nobody was dressed for it!

Question.....what is the coldest football game that you have attended?
Mine personally was an ESPN night game in Athens, Ga. Ga vs. Auburn. I think it got down in the mid 20's with the wind blowing. I know that is nothing to you Big 10 guys, but I wasn't dressed properly. I thought I was going to die!

| You are right about the Razorbacks. They pushed my Bulldogs all over the place in Athens last year. We felt very fortunate to win. Your young running backs will be household names next year and it will be interesting to see your big time QB, Mitch Mustain?, develop. Georgia got a QB out of Texas named Matthew Stafford that was ranked #1 by a few services. Probably not the athlete that Mustain is, but supposed to be an excellent passer.

I lived down that way (Mason) for about a year. Big Bengals fan and like the Reds, but can't find a college team in Ohio to root for.
I don't think there's any game I'd like to go to every year. I've been to the big house for the big game. Seats are so small that I had to stand sideways most of the game. Would rather hang out with friends and watch it at home.
And for the OU fan... There is one OSU I will root for... Oklahoma State Univ... even though they aren't any good!! Now that we're back in my wife's native Tulsa, I had to start following some local team, and prefer OSU over OU.

| they are outcoached because they've got Stoops...where'd he play college ball at again????

| Army vs Navy...the rich tradition and everything the game stands for is unparalleled.

Sooner Born...Sooner Bred...When I die, I'll be Sooner dead! Go OU!
Great recruiting class this year. I'd love to kick the crap out of LSU next year and prove they spent way too much money getting Les Miles. It's easy to be a stud when you walk into a program that someone else has done all the work on. I'd also love it if we beat Texas and show once again that Mack Brown is easily outcoached and outplayed.

I am also a Buckeye fan. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati. UC's football team hasn't been too exciting in quite some time, so I adopted Ohio State as my team.
If you could pick one non bowl game a year to attend, which game would you pick?
I would go to the Miami vs Florida State game.
How about you?

| the badgers will do fine. they have a history of taking former Iowa coaches/players so we all know they have a great foundation.

| I love that game. The history is great and those kids give it there all.

| Even though I'm an alum, I don't take it too serious... it was fun living in ohio during the time Michigan was 8-1-1 against OSU, though. And I got out before it started swinging back to more neutral records. Oh well. Are you in Ohio?

| LOL Good point, never thought about it. I'm not one of the Michigan hatin' Bucs. I'm a Big Ten man.

Traitor... how can you have the word 'blue' in your name if you're a buckeye fan?

I will give the Big Ten some love
Love my University of Wisconsin Badgers
Hate to see Barry Alverez go but great young coaching talent in Brett should help. Average recruiting class this year and problems with our running game next year. Should be a down year but rebound quick.
Badgers pretty much dominated Auburn for Bowl win this year which suprised me.

I haven't heard anything on the Big Ten yet. We need to get this conference some love. The Iowa Hawkeyes! 4 straight New Year's Day bowls 4 straight 10-win seasons 3/4 top 10 rankings (minus this year) Only Georiga, Iowa and USC could say that for 3 straight years. But one tough loss to the Gators this year.

ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS
The team did pretty pitiful this year, but you've gotta give them some cred, they had one of the ten hardest schedules in the NCAA. Should be bowl eligible in 2006. Recruited #1 player in US. Also got Coach Malzhan now as offensive coordinator

Yeah, we've been advancing at an amazing rate since the football program was started just nine years ago! Sometimes you need to remind yourself that when you have a bad loss... that you're only 9 years old!
As far as UL and WVU on the road, don't bet that they'll be the last games of the year just yet. I'm sure we'll have yet another hurricane blow through in September and push one of our early games to the end of year, like we had to do with WVU this year.

| The Bulls are on a tear and getting better. I noticed that you guys close out next year with Louisville and West Virginia back to back. That is two tough games. If you any questions about West Virginia just ask me. I watched them kick our tails in the Sugar Bowl. They are a great squad with tremendous speed on offense.

University of South Florida Bulls!
Both my wife and I are graduates of USF (her 92 and 98, me 96). We've had season tickets to USF Football since we moved back to Tampa from Ft. Lauderdale in 2002.
This past December we were lucky enough to be able to drive up to Charlotte NC for USF's first bowl game on Dec. 31... and watched them get shut out by NC State.
Oh well... there will be more where that came from.

I am a huge fan of the Army - Navy game. I have so much respect for the tradition there and the way those guys play the game.

I don't think Mr Urban Meyer gets it yet. We are not supposed to lose to USC, especially now.
I lived in Jacksonville from 1997 through 2004 and did not attend a single UF/GA game. We never missed the game on TV. All of the SEC matchups are the top rivalries in the country in my opinion. UF vs FSU is a good one as well.

Believe me Chris, I know how tough the swamp is! Good thing my beloved Bulldogs play you in Jacksonville where we have a chance..........wait a minute, we don't have a chance there either. We even played in Athens and got killed there, too!
I am an alumnus of UGA and still live in Athens. I have attended many Ga./ Fla. games but not so much since my daughter came along. I do have family in J'Ville, so I will probably start going more now that my daughter is older.
Looks like Florida and Georgia had great recruiting classes and should be competing for an SEC title again this year. I do not look for Tenn. to stay down and now we all have to worry about S. Carolina!

University of Florida because they have $40k of my money.
Forever a Gator, the wife too. It's also kind of hard to explain, but the environment at a UF home game is unbeatable. I wouldn't want to be a visitor in The Swamp.

Lets talk about College Football. Who is your favorite team and why? How was your teams recruiting class? How do you expect them to perform next fall?
How does this relate to Sparks? Its simple guys....we need to develop tailgaiting stratagies now so we don't blow all of our weight loss on bratwurst, fried chicken, and beer next fall!
