| Back from our weeklong vacation, and I actually lost a couple of pounds. That feels great!
| glad to see that we are all receiving a little positive motivation from our weight drop. Keep it up guys.
| Yeah, he goes out to sea for a month at a time, but I thought he had access from where he was. Hopefully we'll see him back before long!
I am down 40 with 60 more to go. Roadmoyer I went through a couple weeks like that and then all of a sudden I lost 3 lbs two weeks in a row. I am finding this weight loss thing is not as predictable as I would have liked but as long as i am seeing results I am happy.
I was wondering about BigYin also but I thought he said one time that he could be gone for a couple weeks at a time with work.

I'm down 35 pounds so far. Kinda hanging out around there for the last week or two, but I've been travelling a lot, and it's been hard getting it right on the road. Getting there, though. Still haven't gained any weight, just haven't lost any either.
People do notice quite a bit. Other than my pants not fitting, the only place I really notice it is in my face.
| I started out needing about 95 pounds. That is close to 100. 30 down and 65 to go.
I am working on getting rid of 140. I am down 62 all ready. It's great because EVERY one I see notices the changes.
We ough to keep track of how much we have lost this far to see how many few "people" there would be in the group. I carry my 3 year old son around to remember how 40 pounds more felt to me.

| Hey BigYin - you still out there?
| Yeah, that's like me (6'7") and 220 lbs as my 'target' weight. We'll see. I figure I'll keep going down until I get to a weight that feels good and I can maintain.

Hey guys, I'm new here so I figured I would chime in and get to know some people. I browsed through the rest of the posts quickly, and it seems like a lot of you are in the same boat as me.
I have been big ever since 2nd or 3rd grade, but once I got to high school I started to level out. I was 270 when I played football in high school.
I got to grad school, and had to go to the doctor for something or other, and I was surprised when the scale said 306. That was my highest weight that I know of. At that point, I didn't do much about it, because I didn't have a heck of a lot of time (or motivation) when I was studying and doing work for about 18 hours a day. I gave up regular soda/pop (whatever you want to call it) and I got back down to about 275.
Then the rollercoaster began...
I got back up to 296, and that's when I decided to make a change. I'm getting married in April of 2007, so I want to look halfway decent for that and for my honeymoon. When I started SP, I was 288, and I would like to get to 240 or so. I'm 6'2" but I have a large frame...so I think that 185 is pretty ridiculous, since I remember being 140 in 3rd grade...haha. If I can get down to my goal and be able to show some muscle, I'll be very happy.
Well, that's about it for now. I'll try to be more vocal in the near future. :-)
What's up in here, why is everyone quiet all of a sudden.
I've got the belt thing going on also, cinched up three notches so far.
Too bad the scale doesn't show more pounds gone.
How're you doing big? Staying away from the beer?
I hit 30 pounds today. I'm pretty excited. Work has killed me the last few days, and I haven't done well on the strength exercise. I have gotten in the cardio, and hopefully will start play basketball tomorrow for more cardio.
| good luck out there! Congrats on the pounds, that's awesome.

Yeh, Rejoined last Wednesday, what a #### up that was lol. At least there was no choppers involved. Going into drydock for 3 weeks on Tuesday, so that is one horrendous work up, the preparation, then the actaul job, need to watch then as I have been doing so well, another 3lb off today so thats 11 now, in the gym every second day after shift, eating healthy. Trouble with drydocks is normally you work hard then play hard to let off steam, it aint healthy but is sometimes required due to the inevitable madness, you have for example 6 weeks worth of work to get done in 3, you always moan and complain, but you get it done with a sense of satisfaction at the end. Got a set of main brgs on one eng, set of bottom ends on another, two large intercoolers, the list goes on lol, put it like this I'll be glad in another 3 weeks when I go home and collapse, mentally draining as well as physically. On the upside its in Holland so thats alright by us. I am practising my new self help mantra, No Beer....... No Beer......... No Beer........, I'm hoping if I say it often enough it will work, apart from the amount of water I'm drinking I'd be surprised if there was any room left lol Take care Andy

Roady, ................................(please fill with applause and cheers), great going sir, you must be well stoked now.

| Roadmoyer WAY TO GO!! I feel the same way, Those ten pound you lose you get to see a different number on the scale and it motivates you even more to see the next set. I am now working in the 280's and cant wait to see the 270's
| Another minor victory... down to 289 today... Every time I drop 10, I get pumped... 5 or 6 more pounds and I'll be down 30 lbs and the lightest I've been in a long time.
Great job on the smaller belts guys. I've gone in two notches on mine, one left before I need to make more or get a new one.

Roady aint that a grand feeling congrats. Same to you Bkautza, its the little things you start to notice and think hey this does work and gives extra encouragement, Only small loss so far well 8lbs after a fortnight weigh again on Friday, but the boiler suit feels a little looser. Derk exercise has always been my bug bear, I can diet but will lose nothing unless I exercise as well, dont go at it gung ho as that can put you off, look at your suggested programme and ease into it, once you are used to and find it isnt so bad step it up in stages, variety as well cause if you are like me I get board doing the same thing all the time. Good luck
| Congrats on that. I bought a belt that I could only buckle on the first hole. I am now on the third one.

| Thanks Bigyin, Think I'll go a couple of weeks before I step up a stage. Need to lose 75 lb's and right now I'm looking at it as changing my life style. Also need to exercise which is very hard at this time. Good luck with your goal.

Hi Derk, I have just changed over after a fortnight on the fast break stage, its worked for me and gets you into the groove gently, good luck

| That, can be a problem, better to sticking to the ones you know, the last thing you want is any form of discouragement, the old uns may have been out at the start but these are the benchmark you are working against. So I'd stick with them.
We just got a new digital scale and I am now 4 pounds heavier than my other scale. I dont like that scale I think I will stick with the old one!
| I also have noticed that my clothes seem to have gotten a little bigger. Even though my scale only shows a 2 pound loss, I've taken an inch off my waist and hips.
| I do notice it in my clothes because they are a little more loose than when I started. Thanks for the encouragement and hope you get into your zone.
Hey good on you, the slow loss is what I hope to achieve, I'm generally the same it flys off at the start. Its getting into the slow loss that I can then learn to maintain my goal at the end a ways to go as yet. You may not think it but you gotta notice that loss, again congrats.
| I need to lose 100 lbs and am a quarter of the way there. I have been going since the first of the year and the pounds came flying off the first few weeks also. I thing that is mainly water that I was retaining. Now it is about 1 to 2 lbs. a week. I went a couple weeks without losing anything which was difficult to get through but stuck with it and the pounds are coming off again. I am still waiting for that first wow look at you. I was so big that 25lbs looks like nothing yet. Wait till they see me at 50 hopefully then my body will start reshaping itself.
Cheers for that, back out tomorrow so fingers crossed, wont be so bad know what I have to do. Makes it worth while when you see that loss, gives you the encouragement to carry on, you must feel better for it so congrats are well in order, its also good for the encouragement of others.
Best of luck when you go out again!
I've dropped 25 lb's since Jan 4. Measured myself last night and I'm 2.5" off my waist already. No wonder my pants won't stay up!

Flacodle : Welcome and good luck. Yeh the food is the best, mainly cause we carry sat divers onboard the best of stuff etc, they are the prima donnas, wouldn't do their job for no amount of money, 28 days in a steel can, no way. If I speek to the cooks it will be sorted, we do have healthy optons but they will go that bit extra in watching out for folk.

Congrats! That's awesome. So when do you go back out? That sounds like it'll be your first challenge. I've heard they feed oil guys really well while they're out at sea. I think you said that too...
I think one of my hardest will be a business trip I have in March. I usually struggle with things when I'm on the road, eating tons. Of course now I'll have to find a way to exercise too. Maybe a good walk around salt Lake City while I'm there will do the trick.
| Im happy, I know from previous experience that I will probably drop about 5 a week for 4 to 6 weeks then it starts to even itself out to around a steady 2, I am hoping this time that with this plan that I can sort the maintenance out.
GOOD job, excellent start. My first week only saw 2 pounds go away. I haven't done a weigh in for a while, but I have taken my belt in a notch.

| Ta da drum roll..... just had my first wiegh in this evening, 5LBS has gone awol, so feeling pretty good.

| Waterdog congrats on the loss, this is why we hide here, so the ladys can not tell us where we are going wrong.

| 10 pounds in the last week and a half. My wife says it's not fair the amount of calories I get. She gets half the amount. We went camping this past weekend and she gained 3 pounds back and was not amused that I lost another half pound!
Waterdog-This is where we hide lol. Thats what part of this seems to be, eat well, by eating right, it is a lifestyle change and not about starvation, everybody I have seen ,seems to be doing well, steady losses, it appears to work.
| Hey guys! I just found this part of the site. I am currently at 310 headed for 185. I'm almost literally twice the man I was 10 years ago. I was reading some of the earlier comments and it's good to see the same concerns. I too feel like I'm eating all the time and yet at the end of the day I am still barely at my minimum calories. I guess it will all work out though. Smarter people than me have designed these plans.
I think they tread a fine line, they see the wieght increase and probably do more worrying for you than you do yourself, until you make the decision, now she is happy I tell her what I need to do and have my own personal cheerleading squad. My wife is happier as well, because now I have taken the responsibility of what goes in my mouth, she sees that I am not starving myself, that my exercise is increasing but that it is in a controlled manner and not diving in at the deep end. She always knew that any form of nagging, would achieve nothing, at the end of the day it had to come from me. At the moment she seems happy with this site as well, as we are all in the same boat, there may be no physical meeting, but the support is here as well as a camaraderie, with everybody regardless, willing others and supporting them on this lifestyle change. She has always felt that I do better when people outside the family are keeping an eye on how I am doing, she says that it is the not wanting to let anybody down streak in me, even though at the end of the day the only person that would be let down is myself. So everyday I am thankfull for having her and my daughter in my life. Also thankfull for having found this site by accident.
| It feels good to have your wife say 'you're doing awesome'. I know she was telling me she was proud of me for sticking with this for over a month now.

Been pop free for a week now, my biggest problem has been getting off flavoured waters, while at work no problem with still bottled, at home I used to like a variety, just making sure I buy plent of still and sticking to it. My wife laughed the other day, had a couscous whole meal sandwich with sundried Tomatoes on it and washed it down with a small bottle of still, she has been that used to me going with the large paper cup to the vending machine and filling it with coke, apart from not having a large round of fries with salt and vinegar. Shes impressed so far.
| I've been having those same problems. I'll think I've eaten like a pig all day, and when I sit down and add it all up, I'm short of my minimum for the day. Just goes to show how healthy food choices can make a big difference. Pop update, three days now and not one craving. Thanks for the tip on the tea, I drink alot of that now.
| I think the feeling better and better attitude are more than worth this whole thing. I feel better most of the time, and the soreness after workouts is getting less and less... all around a good thing.
Been there before, even just now, having started on here, to be honest I struggle to eat the alloted allocation, just goes to show that starvation is not the way to lose the weight, apart from the fact that the body says whoa there I'm not getting what I need, its easier to burn muscle than fat so it starts using that and you dont loose the bad stuff. Looking forward to Friday when I'll get my first wiegh in, if nothing else I'm feeling better already, positive affirmation
Since starting to eat healthy, I'm having trouble getting 2700/day. We were at a local fast food place (Carls Jr.) and I was looking at the health stuff... my old lunch, a bacon/cheese $6 burger, loaded, chili chees fries, and 2 or 3 32 oz cokes. Ouch.
I got out of there with just about 800 calories (only slightly over my lunch portion of calories), and I was stuffed. Even ate a chocolate chip cookie (which infuriated my wife!)
Roady- isn't that the trouble, the 3000 calorie meal would look nothing as well, its how we have decieved ourselves at times, I can handle a bit extra weight, not so bad, do something about it next week. Still positive vibes now! Were on the way. Be breaking out into song next Andy Tecova- doing well, nice and steady congrats.
| My sig says it all. About 70 lbs for me. When I started I didn't have a good scale, so I wasn't sure if it was 235-240. Since I started, it's been a pound a week, like clockwork. My belt has gone in one notch, and my face looks thinner, but my measurements aren't really dropping. It's not really that far along though, so I guess I shouldn't be expecting my gut to dissappear overnight.
Bigyin - I know the feeling... it was nothing to put down 2 liters of coke a day. When I started looking at that, I was amazed. One day I looked at the calories and carbs/sugars from that and cringed.
Of course, looking at how I used to eat, it was nothing to put down 3000 calories in a meal.
| Taken a penchant for green leaf tea, also a greenleaf/black leaf mix, specially at the beggining of the day. Seems to help set me up.
| Good advice. I've been drinking nothing but whole leaf tea and water for the past year. Getting rid of the sugar water made a big diffrence right away.
Yip, I am required to do a medical every two years the last Doc told me that the only liquid that should pass my lips is water, diet stuff out, flavoured waters out, It was getting rediculous 2ltr coke etc a day. The thought of the sugar makes me cringe now.
My wife and I challenged each other to stop the pop for a week. I did this about three years ago when I was at my heaviest. It made a huge impact on my weight loss. At the time I was drinking unbelivable ammounts of the stuff, and nothing else. Once I made the switch to water and tea I saw losses of 5 to 10 pounds a week at first.
If any one else is interested in trying this I would like to know how it works for you.
| Wow! it really is good to here so much positive reinforcement. It helps to know that other people are having success and have good advice. Positive attitude and realistic expectations go a long way.
| Sounds like everyone is on the right track and in the right frame of mind. Congrats guys on your progress...keep it up.
Started at the 344 mark, looking to loose around the 120lb mark and hopefully not put it back on this time, my max is supposted to be about 14 stone 4, but a couple of Doctors have told me that 17 will be fine. As I would look ill, 6'3", heavy framed, broad shouldered etc. So heres hoping.
| I think I need to lose around a 100. I'm 252.8 as of today's weigh in; I started Spark on Jan 1st at 280. The normal weight for a 5'7" medium build seems to be around 150, but I'm aiming for 160 right now.
Well, they say my target weight for my height is 220 (I'm 6'7"), but I can't picture me being that light. Only guy I knew who was 6'7" and 220 was a stick. I started this a month ago at somewhere between 315 and 325 (our scale only goes to 310, and I was over that!). I'm shooting for 270 by Sept 1 and 250 by Jan 1. Then I'll see where I want to go from there.
I'm down to 296 as of this morning!
| I don't currently have more than 100, but I started with 110 to lose. I set my goal on SP as 35 by July 20, then I would like to lose 20 more after that. Before joining SP I dropped 55 and so far have kept it off. The hardest part for me was admitting that I needed to lose weight. Good luck, it WILL be worth it.
| I know that regardless of how much weight you need to lose, and the changes that need to take place to make it permenant are the same no matter how much or how little weight you have to lose. However, people who have larger amounts of weight to lose often have more urgent reasons to lose then vanity. If there are any other guys out there who are trying to lose 50, 75, 100, or more pounds, let me know. I think this is an important segment of this community. We have to keep trying 1 day at a time.
