I work for a medium sized wholesale annual nursery. We basically sell annuals to Lowe's and Wal-Mart. I also handle most of the IT solutions for the organization too. Basically we all chip in where ever we need to at any time. Nice family environment which is great compared to previous jobs I have had.

Oh yes, THE VA, worked for them in claims for a long time. Hope your 100% is 20yrs or longer. Be careful of their review policy, they will knock people out of their 100% at the 18 or 19 yr mark. That could be very hard on retirees.
Anyone on this board doing any fishing?

Godspeed and good health to all

Other than that chase around after 3 kids, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and my wife when she lets me. Long shifts will do it. Used to work freight, 10 hour shifts + 4 hrs OT, had to eat to stay sane I thought. Boredom is a killer and in a guard shack or on vehicle patrol, its soooo bad. I cut back my coffee lots and cut down on the sugar I use in each.
Now I have to park farther away from Ikea, and walk in. Fortunately I have a stationary bike and access to a swimming pool.
Keith, if around Ottawa, u can join Ottawa group.

I am in the Canadian military (Military Police Branch). I joined in 1989 at 145 lbs. This was 3 years after High School where I was very active in all kinds of sports. I tried the Naval Reserves for those 3 years until I got my call up to the Regular Force. Since joining I have balooned up to 225 at my heaviest and have gone down to 175 while serving in Kosovo in 1999. I stayed around 180 for about a year until we got pregnant and then I went up to 220. I have been yoyoing between that and 200 for the last 3 years or so. My spouse and I are now trying to get healthier with our daughter getting ready to start school next September. Both of us do not want to be the "Fat" parents and we want to set a good example for our little princess. Well back to the topic, I have done too many jobs within the military Police to list here but I am curently the Shift Supervisor on a very busy base. Summer is hectic and no time to take a vacation. Working long hours (12 hour shifts days and nights) tends to have me worn out by the time I get a few days off. At home I have a hard time finding time for myself with a little one to look after. I try to stay active but still find my eating habits suck the big one.

Well that is about it for me.

I work for a small I.T. contracting company, that has a contract with a larger international contracting firm, which has a contract with an even larger international conglomorate. Wow, too funny you guyz.

Used to be a tourguide in the summer, and hauled and delivered freight in the winter. Kept me in shape. Last I did was in the auto parts, delivered and pulled parts, nice varied work to keep me in shape.
Gained almost 10 lbs on a cross-continent trip, 11 days my wife & I in our mini pickup.
Now I am retired, doing the occasional maintenance work, love auto maintenance, squeezing every ounce of energy out of our fuel. Funny, before I left on the trip, I started experimenting with running #2 diesel into the fuel on my pickup, mileage went up nicely.
Now I get to work on my fishing, swimming and getting in shape.
Luvvin it, hope to get a post or two from you all

Newvillagebooks;

I'm going to assume you are ignorant and this is not intentional. Assuming that, I'm going to give you a tip. Any kind of advertising or promoting your own business on a web board such as this is considered "spamming". Do a search on 'spam' and learn. Your posts are probably going to be removed and I'd bet you run the risk of getting yourself banned from the site altogether. This is only a word to the wise if in fact you really don't realize what you're doing.

(If you do realize what you're doing and you're just another crappy spammer trying to ruin a wonderful website, then I pray the Lord will turn you from your wicked ways in some really dramatic fashion, like making you gain thirty more pounds.)

CJ,
I was in the Army from 85-89 stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. I was a parachute rigger, so also did some jumping (~30). Four months before my ETS a couple friend got tangled up under a C130. One broke his back the other his femur. It really scared me for the first time. I wasn't afraid of dieing, but being crippled scared me to death. Imagine that, I never realized you could get hurt being a paratrooper.

Yea... I pushed the envelope a few too many times. Had a partial malfunction in 97... hit the ground from 1200 foot at 45 mph. Walked away from that... but knew something wasnt right. Compressed L4/Bulged L5 was causing MORSE code relays through my spine and hamstrings. Had 2 years of weighted supline traction after that to try and pry the compressions apart...finally after nearly 2 years... 250 pounds of pressure on the machine and by back popped back. Wasnt back to normal...but a heck of a lot better than where I was. Got out in Aug of 99 cause USASOC was ready to deply my butt again... back to ruckin and jumpin in the desert... wasnt as appealing anymore...so I declined their gracious offer ;-) Submitted my seperation paperwork...recieved approval and a 30% disabled rating. Had surgery to finally correct the damage once and for all...Duke neurosurgery did the work...not the VA!!! so my private insurance handled most of the bill. April 05 it was done...walked out pain free the next day...no shakes, pain, tremmors... even the drop foot was gone!! Amazing!!
Take care

AN ex-EMT, now a Medical Assistant looking for a job. just got my credentials a couple of weeks ago. Where I live in South texas, job pay in really low unless you are able to travel 80+ miles one way, every day. Example: surrounding cities start a police office at around 9-10 hr. A Basic Level Emergency Medical Tech working for a private company can expect to start out at 7 an hr.

Hey Tecova,

I've been a night auditor for twelve years. I kind of backed into it after a bad divorce (hiding out from the world) and just never left. Third shift is one of the reasons I'm fat. Poor sleeping habits and worse eating habits capped by sitting on my butt watching TV half the night. That's my major short term goal.. more sleep. Next is to get some surgery I've been putting off and get control of my BP so I can get back to the machine shop and catch my bills up. As you probably know, hotels only pay you enough to squeak by. Thank God for a good part time business and a rich wife. (She'll love that if she sees it.)

Interesting, I have 3 computer degrees, a business degree and several years of working in the medical field and I found teaching by accident about 8 years ago. I am an elementary credentialed teacher in two states, but my niche appears to be middle school math. I teach at an inner city high risk charter school in the KC, MO area and love it. Been there for three years and I'm finally getting their respect. Interesting enough, my son is in the same credentialling program that I went through in California at Cal State San Bernardino for elementary education and his first job is teaching 7-8 math at a high desert middle school.
I hope you find the position you want and love it like we do.

I'm 26, (27 in April), caucasian computer nerd. Mondays through Wednesdays I drive the van in the evening for Holiday Inn. Thursdays and Fridays I balance the books on the graveyard shift. So I'm a Porter / Night Auditor. I went to Montana State University from 1997-2000 to try and get a degree in Computer Science, but I couldn't hack the math. Been out of school for 6 years, doing hotel work ever since, and honestly I feel pretty good. I haven't accomplished much, but I have fun everyday, and I don't have near the stress I had when I was in school.

I love to write, and if I ever do go back to school, it'll probably be with english in mind. I was about 120 lbs in 1997, and when I started here I was about 240. In ten years, I really ballooned up, most of it in the last 6. A lot of it is my constant computer gaming, coupled with my sedentary hotel job. I tried to lose weight back in January 2003-April 2003. I didn't see results, so I quit. I've come to find out now that it was because I wasn't doing enough exercise, the right way, and that I didn't change what I ate. Since about October 2005, I've been trying half heartedly to make a change, and right at the end of December I found Sparkpeople on a www.bluesnews.com link. I came here, signed up and filled out all the information, and started the program.

When I started Fast Break, I was confused about what I was supposed to do, so I tracked calories and did my exercise from day one. The goal is one pound a week, down to 160, around June / July 2007. The 3 goals I picked for fast break were No pop, write in a journal, and take a walk. So far I've managed to nail each one, from day one, consistently. Quiting pop, aside from the massive headache the first few days, was quite easy. I just said, "last one" and that was it. No harder than that. The journal writing, has been great. I find I'm writing massive entries each day, just keeping track of what I ate, and what exercise I did, but mainly just what's happening around me. I take a peek into some of the other journals, which I think are mostly the women here, and they all write a few lines or a paragraph, and there's a lot of chatter between them. In mine, there's a post here or there from the spark coaches, but I think just one other person read it once. So if you do read it, don't hesitate to let me know!

Edit: MSU to Montana State University.

Well hello
I thought I would be the first to chime in and jump start your board.
I owned a restaurant in NM till last year and now I stay home and build furniture.
Lot less stress and I am not around food all the time. The restaurant sure put the pounds on me.
I wieghed 205 when I opened my place and in three years I shot up to 287.
Once I got out of the restaurant It was about four weeks ago that I decided to do something about my wieght. I am so glad I found this site. I have lost 15lbs so far and something wierd happened.
I found my voice in my journals. Even started to write that book I have always talked about.
I'll check in from time to time and thanks for checking into mine.
remember we are changing our lives as well as our shapes.
