I am also curious to find out where the guys are from that says their local departments use the BMI.  I'm in Washington State and none of our local departments use it as part of a hiring process.  It is all based on physical fitness determined through agility testing.  <BR><BR>I just want to know what areas to stay away from if I ever try to test cause I don't like the BMI!! haha

You do many reps low weights, no sets, just reps to failure, low weights or resistance. your <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=running">running</a> is good. high heart rate over extended periods of time.

According to Jillian Michael's from the <a href="/myspark/groups_individual.asp?gid=3822">biggest loser</a> you guys should not eat less than 1600-1800 calories. You are doing it right by exercising. Our local Sheriffs Department only had a physical standard. Its the cooper test at I believe 70%. By the way if you have an ipod you can find Jillian Michaels has a pod cast under kfi radio Sunday Morn. The pod cast is very informative and worth the download. Keep us updated on the new job.

I lost faster than that and didn't push myself beyond doing the right things.  I looked back in my records and I lost my first 38 lbs in 79 days, that's pretty close to .5 lbs a day.  <BR><BR>Your looking at over 1 lb a day.  I don't want to discourage you, but that seems like a difficult thing to do.  Good luck.

                                                <td>OK, no tongue lashing yet, but watch yourself cowboy or you're headed for a fall.  Losing that much weight safely depends on how close you are to your deadline.  If it's July, you're hosed.  If it's October then you can hit it.  Be careful about the whole 1200 calorie idea.  You are doing a mini ironman with your training right now.  <BR><BR>You may want to consider 1600 to 2000 calories and I'll tell you why:  If you stick to 1200 calories, starvation will kick in.  You're doing a lot and your body will see the huge calorie deficits and start conserving.  If you aren't putting enough <a href="/resource/reference_proteins.asp">protein</a> in, you will start to catabolize your muscle tissue.  Muscle will rebuild itself out of anything it can find and pretty soon your body will rob supporting muscles to feed those that are damaged in your training.  1600-2000 calories and a fair amount of <a href="/resource/reference_proteins.asp">protein</a> will allow your body to just adjust to the added <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=stress">stress</a> of the workout and use the new calories and <a href="/resource/reference_proteins.asp">protein</a> to build the muscle and cast off waste.  The same goes for water.  The rule of thumb for <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=water">water</a> is 8 glasses a day.  With your regimen, you need to think in quarts and I'd say start at 3 quarts a day and go up as needed.  Your body will flush out what it needs to flush out and you'll lose faster.

I have to lose X amount of pounds in an unreasonable length of time".  <BR>While I also agree with Golfpro that starvation is not the way to go, I can come up with a few suggestions to help you and then strongly suggest that once you make your quick drop that you use this site to get a sensible maintenance program that won't harm your body.  They can provide you with meal and exercise plans.<BR><BR>First, DON'T starve yourself.  If you don't eat your body will hang on to every calorie it gets.  Any time anyone is eating under 1000-1200 calories a day for any length of time they are starving their body.<BR>Second, drink lots of water.  Drinking <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=water">water</a> will help your body flush it's system and if the body knows it's getting <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=water">water</a> it won't be tempted to hang on to a bunch of <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=water">water</a> weight.<BR>Third, eat whole, real food.  The body has to work harder to digest a carrot than it does to digest carrot shreds for example.  Processed foods just have a lot of stuff in them you don't really need.<BR>Fourth, eat multiple, smaller meals so your body knows it's always going to get more.<BR>Fifth, Load up on protein, between that and the water, you'll feel full and your blood sugar will be more stable.  (Think Atkins, the guys I know that have done <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=atkins">atkins</a> have always lost a bunch of weight doing the inital induction portion of the program).<BR>Sixth, remember what all that exercise is doing to your body.  If you want to work out every day, fine, just switch up what you do so that your body has a chance to repair and rebuild itself.<BR><BR>Obviously from the title of your topic you know that this isn't the best thing to do to your body, so I'll leave you with good luck and be careful!

                                                <td>What is the deadline to lose the weight? <BR><BR>Keep in mind, you may lose the weight and get down to the right weight, but if you're in the hospital because you did in such an unhealthy way you still won't get the job. <BR><BR>With how much you're working out and how little you're eating, it won't take too long for your body to kick in to "starvation mode". If you don't supply your body with enough calories it will shut down your metabolism because it thinks your starving. When this happens you begin to lose muscle mass, not fat.<BR><BR>If you're aiming for more than 2 pounds a week you won't make it very far towards your goal. You owe it to you wife and daughter to be healthy as well.<BR><BR>matt

                                                <td>First off, I would like to say Hi to you all, I just joined today. Now for the tongue lashings, or advice on how to hit this insane goal/obstacle. I am joining my local Sheriff's office. In order to be hired I have to lose 37 lbs...NOW!!!! I am <a href="/resource/cardio_biking_speed.asp">biking</a> 8+ miles a day, swimming 15 min (right at 500 meters), <a href="http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/search_results.asp?site_search_term=running">running</a> for 20 minutes, 60 push ups, 80 sit ups and 9 pull ups....every day. I have cut my caloric intake down to ~1200 calories; what else can I do???<BR><BR>I know this isn't healthy, but not getting hired is not an option. I am putting everything into this and I am not going to let my indulgence and lard butt keep me from my goal. My wife and daughter are depending on me too much...failing at this is not an option.
