The body core exercises (Pilates, crunches, etc.), will firm up the muscles, but do nothing for the fat by themselves. The posts earlier are mostly correct in that you just have to lose fat, and it will come off the whole body. The good news is that belly fat tends to come off easier than that from the hips and thighs. The reason is that it is less dense, and the body can break it down quicker. That is one reason that men can usually lose weight quicker than women -- men tend to gain weight around the middle, and women around the thighs. One bad thing about the belly fat is that it is connected with heart issues and high cholesterol. The bottom line is: lose weight through proper nutrition, exercise -- both cardio and strength training.

I agree. You could take on some weight training, too. Muscle burns more fat than fat does. So if you can up your muscles you should be able to burn the rest of it off. Some people go in for liposuction, but I think that's too extreme. Plus, you are left with those scars. You are on the right track, just keep it up and be patient.

And good luck.

I've recently trained and ran a half marathon. I'm now training to bike 100 miles in two days. I've notice my belly fat has decreased a lot during this training. I have just started adding crunches in to try and get rid of it all.

So in the end I would say lots of cardio.

I was using annorexic as a figure of speech. I know from experience that a six pack is achievable but you have to get to such a low percentage of fat that the only way some epople can achive it is by losing so much weight that they look annorexic.

At that point they can start eating and working out to put more weight back on while keeping their body fat percentage low.

Like I said, I don't recommend doing it. I did, but not because I wanted to and I was only 19 at the time. I was living with brother and his vegetarian wife in Floriday right off the beach riding a bicycle everywhere I wanted to go. I lost 40 pounds, 210-160 had a six pack and looked kind of strange without a t-shirt.

Before that I was already practicing Karate 5 nights a week and riding my bicycle 20 miles a day and 200 to 210 was where my weight stayed. I lost a lot of muscle along with the fat when I moved to Florida and am just saying that it can be done.

Once I came back though, fattier foods, responsibilities that kept me from "training" 6 hours a day and thinner air put weight right back on.

That was just living. I wasn't actively trying to be one way or the other. Simply the difference that two very different lifestyles had on my body. So all I'm trying to say is that you can get rid of the fat, and once you have, if you're concious about it you may be able to start putting on lean weight instead of fat. Just don't expect it to be easy.

I'm going to hope that Ramblin_Man was just joking about the "going anorexic". However, it's a deadly disease and nothing to joke about. Please don't do anything of the sort.

Your best bet is to continue your new healthy lifestyle and hope for the best. Some people simply do not have the genetics to have a "six pack". It sounds like you're doing the right things already. Just keep it up and it may happen in a healthy way.

Without going into a long story, I think you will need to go annorexic and then start eating for muscle mass. It's not a very healthy thing to do IMO, but if you really want it gone and nothing else is working that may be your only solution.

Fortunately, I am satisfied with everything except my stomach. I do cardio almost 7 days a week between running, eliptical, treadmill and the stair climber and I lift weights 5 times per week. I've lost 55lbs since October and went from a size 38 to a 33! Awsome! My only issue now is I still don't like the way my stomach is. I still have the "role tires" and if I loose any more weight everyone is telling me I look anorexic. Since I can't just target my stomach, Any Advice?

best way to loose belly fat, cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio and guess what, more cardio. I always enjoy watching people working out with weights for their stomach and said, do you realize you are adding muscle mass and inches to your waist??? :)

Being a BJJ guy, I can recommend reverse crunches as my favorite strengthening excersie and snake walks as well. And there is always BJJ and sparing, :).

This is a universal male problem, sretching way back into history. No matter what we do, it will creep up on us. That said, there is a lot we can do to prevent/reverse it. All the good tips have already been given, and there is no exercise that will target just the belly fat. A lot of advertising will try to convince you otherwise, but a steady plan of exercise and good nutrition will do the trick. Eventually. It didn't get there overnight and it won't go away overnight. Just keep plugging on.

And good luck!

pilates, walking and taebo are good for abs

I recently got an ab lounge and have ab muscles I didn't even know I had. It says it will hole up to 300, but has held 325. I have been very pleased with the results. I have only done a total of about 1000 crunches in the last month, but can really see a difference. The crunches are a lot easier than being on the floor or incline bench.

Much success!!

sadly not... I also have what most people would call a beer belly and I don't even drink ! But I remember back in college when we were in PE, our teacher said how some people wanted to lose weight in only one area and how it was impossible, that you simply have to work it all and it'll eventually go away. So keep up the exercising, plus you'll feel better overall so it's a win-win thing !

I have to agree with Golfpro. There are no exercises you can do to reduce belly fat. It just take hard work and you have to remain constant.

That is where my body likes to store it also. Since finding SP and really counting my calorie intake and staying consistent with cardio I have lost over two inches on my waist. Now, I am lucky since I have always loved cardio and it is not unusual at all for me to run, bike, or skate for several hours at a time. But until I started counting the calories all that cardio still never really shrunk my belly.

Unfortunately there is nothing to target just a specific area. As you eat healthier and exercise more, you'll start lose more fat. Keep it up and you'll start to lose some fat from all over.
