| I've been engaged for what feels like an eternity (May 20, 2007) & I started picking up stuff right away. We are paying for our entire wedding & honeymoon out of our own pockets, so I thought it would be soooo much easier to pick up odd ball stuff along the way. I recommend watching your sale ads for the craft stores or have them send you the ads in your emails each week. Hobby Lobby (or others like it) have great specials of 50% wedding items! Can't beat a great sale like that! We just picked up several items last weekend & only spent $30. Same with our flowers....I wanted silks & a family friend is a florist, so I hit Hobby Lobby's 50% sale on silk flowers. Only spent $160 on flowers for the entire wedding party! So, definitely keep your eyes peeled for sales & don't forget to check EBay or even Craigslist. There are tons of people selling gently used wedding decor! Good luck, Hon!

I'm buying things a little at a time. The only thing I'm waiting last minute on is candy for the candy bar and ferero rocher chocolates we are using for the placecards.
I got my garter from an Ebay vendor who custom makes them. There are tons on there!

I'm getting married april of 09 and started doing research and buying right after we got engaged in Sept. of 07. I am a obsessive compulsive planner so it's my nature!
But I am learing that doing alot of stuff early is a good idea! has given me a chance to bargain shop on the stuff that won't much matter later on! I have saved ALOT of money doing this! even got my dress already and saved like $700 since a local shop was closing it's doors!
Good luck and Congrats!

| i agree with AMKSTAR1...our wedding is 5 1/2 months out, but we've started accummulating things already, dresses ordered, tuxes picked out. we still have to order the invitations, but then after that, it's down to the food (which, we're blessed to have my family and his family doing for us!) now we'll have the summer to focus on having fun!

| I am 19 days away from my wedding and trust me- do not put off buying anything if you can help it. Get everything you can as early as you can so you won't be stressing later!

| We started buying things right after we were engaged. We got engaged Valentines Day 2007 and we're getting married October 18, 2008. That was the whole point of us planning our wedding for this year, so we could buy things as we went along and not have to pay for everything at once and end up with a huge debt because of it!

Steeler-
You should join The Knot (www.theknot.com), it will break down what month you should do what. I'm kind of a planner so I'm trying to get as much down now as possible. We're placing the invitation order on Thursday and at the end of the month will have booked all vendors (I'm 7 mos. out). Martha Stewart's bridal magazine (I vote it's the best bridal mag) also has a pull out checklist in every issue to help with the timeline of getting stuff done.

| I think we're pretty well done. We're getting married next weekend but I still feel like I'm missing something. (Maybe I'm just getting nervous.)

We are starting to buy things now (still 11 months away) but only after we have decided they are totally what we want .. and only if we find them on special ..

fyi- disposable cameras w/film also have an expiration date (which should be marked on the package)
I'm just buying stuff if I find something I like for a good price, otherwise I'm waiting. I have 6.5 months left and just starting to accumulate stuff. It's easy to get excited, but make sure you're getting exactly what you want and that what you want is in the budget.

| Non perishable items can be purchased any time, just make sure you keep everything in the same place and keep an ongoing list so that you don't forget anything you have already purchased when it gets closer to the date and you are more stressed out. If you are buying invitations, save the date etc. early, just make sure you buy enough to cover the guest list plus maybe a dozen or so extra for last minute additions and mistakes that get made addressing them. Anything you can do to make your life easier and less stressful is what you have to do.
