This is so true! The wedding was my motivator. I lost about 20 pounds and gained back 15 in the few months after the wedding. I've finally decided that I want to do this for me, not for an event, so I have a lot more faith that I'll be successful at keeping it off this time.

I guess because I've been going to weight watchers for a couple years- I 've seen the yo yo's so much- that I think it's sad when i see people drop out after their wedding.
so keep up the good work and good health after your wedding :)

I agree with you guys -- my initial motivation is definitely looking great in that dress but I also know that I'm doing this because I want to be healthy for LIFE with my husband-to-be. And I've been feeling great!

Turbomer, I think the great majority of us here agree with you. But, at the same time, just because we are getting married and trying to get healthy doesn't automatically mean that we are trying to get healthy ONLY for our weddings. As far as I have seen, no one here is trying to do a quick-fix fad diet to lose tons of weight and then go right back to eating terribly once they're hitched.

What I am trying to say- is that it's great to have a motivator- but from what I've witnessed in the past with so many people- once the BIG EVENT is over- they feel they don't have that motivation anymore-
I wish everyone the best who's getting married and hope that your health is also a motivating factor- It wasn't until I was hit w/ diabetes did I realize that my health was so important :)

I'm losing the weight for my wedding no doubt about it. If I wasnt getting married I doubt I would be doing any exercise or eating healthy and I would probably be the size i was when i started if not bigger!!

maybe its the wrong reason but its working and thats the most important thing

I whole-hearted like agree. I lost my weight over 10yrs ago and ago and now I want to lose the weight that I gained back. Thankfully, I'm now only 5lbs away from where I want to be.

amen..you're right! althought i haven't been at it very long, i'll admit the wedding was my inital motivator, but a few trips to the doctor, and i realize that i have more serious issues/reasons to loose the weight AND KEEP IT OFF!!! this is definitely a lifestyle change that we (i and my FH) are going to keep in effect after the wedding!

TURBOMER congrats on your weight loss, you look amazing! I have to say that I am not losing weight just because of my wedding but it is a great motivator to take a look at myself and really see what changes I want to make. Reaching my goal weight is by my wedding date but I don't see any problem with that, along the way I have developed so many healthy habits that it is a lifestyle change for the better and certainly something I will keep up for the rest of my life.

I'm definitely losing weight for me.. but my goal is so that I can look good in a dress again. I went up 5 pant sizes with my children, and I don't feel right. I hate how I look in the mirror and pictures, so YES, I'm going to lose weight so that I am happy at what I see when I look in my photo book at one of the best days of my life.

Amen, Turbomer. I totally agree.

My wedding wasn't so much a motivation for me, but a wakeup call. When I got engaged and started planning my wedding, I started to think about wedding photos and how much I hated being photographed because I was so unhappy about my body. I knew I wanted to be at a place where I didn't feel that discomfort - and that is something I want to last well beyond the one evening of my wedding.

The wedding is definitely my motivator, but it is not my only reason for wanting to lose weight. I lost weight before, but then gained a lot of it back. Part of the reason is because I lost the weight in an unhealthy way. Now, I am doing it differently. I am eating the amount of calories I am supposed to and exercising without doing too much. And I feel great. I really want to continue this healthy lifestyle after the wedding. I want to be healthy.

I hear so many women say that they are going to lose weight because they are getting married- Excuse me if I am being judgmental-but please do it for YOU- not for a wedding or to look hot in a dress- because if that's the case- right after the wedding- you'll do what so many women do- which is gain weight back again-
Sure everyone wants to look good in a dress- but have your motivation be many other things..your health, your energy-
Just my 2 cents :)
