My dress was almost three sizes larger than what I normally wear (and I wasn't able to zip it when I bought it). I lacked about six inches but finally got those off. I still need to lose some off my arms though!! I hate they way they look (thank God for veils!)
Don't let it get you down though because no matter what size you are, every bride looks beautiful!

They do run small. I feel like it is massively unfair and demoralizing to brides, so the best thing to do is just tell yourself that your real size is your actual measurements, not the number on the dress which is likely going to need alteration anyway. Gosh, I wish women's sizes were in inches like men's shirt sizes. That would be an actual measurement which meant something instead of just another way of making women insecure.

I tried to wait and wait until I was happy with my weight to try on dresses. I realized I would never be happy with my weight and went ahead and tried dresses on. I found a dress that looked good on me and made me feel beautiful. They say it is easier to take in a dress than take one out :)
A good dress shop will tell you what kind of dress will flatter your figure on you what styles will look bad. If a shop doesn't make suggestions based on your body type, I'd look elsewhere.

| Go ahead and start looking around! And remember, it's just a number on a tag. And it'll probably be different on every dress you try on, haha. :) Have FUN! That's the only thing that matters =)

It's just a number on a small slip of fabric, don't worry about it! I just got my dress, and the wedding dresses did run 2 sizes smaller. I wound up getting a bridesmaid dress, and it ran 1-2 sizes bigger! So it does depend on the brand, style, etc.
Just a warning--I went six months before my wedding, and they told me that I was cutting it close, and that the dress should be ordered 6-9 months beforehand to avoid "rush" charges. I don't know if it's the same at all places, but definitely something to keep in mind!

| It depends on the dress, I know European sizes are a lot smaller than American. Some dressess I was a 14, some an 18 didn't even fit. Honestly, when I was trying dresses on size was the last thing that mattered- you will be thinking about so much more. Have fun, it is a once in a lifetime experince!

| I know exactly how you feel! Thankfully I'm having my dress custom made and don't have to fool with trying dresses on. It is a blow to the self esteem for most people but in particular for those of us trying our hardest to lose weight. You probably should go try them on just so you aren't rushing at the last minute to get a dress, but keep it in the back of your mind that the size you are now isn't permanent, and it doesn't define you.

Keep telling yourself, size is just a number in a tag.
Different manufacturers use different criteria to determine a size. They are not always the same. For instance, in some brands I am a size 8, in some a 10 and others up to a size 16.

| You want to try on the gowns. First look through the books, magazines and websites for ideas on what you like. Kepp an open mind when going. Pay attention to what the staff tell you, most have done it for a long time and know what would look best. Don't pay attention to tags. The best feeling in the world is getting a dress and by the time it comes in, having to alter it tremendously.

| Hi :) When I was shopping for my wedding dress last fall I found the sizes really depended on the designer and the style of the dress. Everyone kept telling me that I would end up getting two sizes bigger than what I usually wore and when I found my dress the shop did order it in two sizes bigger than I usually am...and guess what? It came in WAY too big and now I have to alter it tons. Try not to focus on the size tag, I know its hard, look at the styles and if you find one with a lace up back it will be easier to fit as you lose weight.

| I am scared to go try on wedding dresses. Everyone says that your wedding dress size is 2 sizes bigger than your normal dress size, and when you're losing weight, or at least trying to, that can be a huge blow to the ego. Do they really have different sizes? Should I wait to try one on until I hit one of my mini-goals. Any other dress advice? Thanks in advance!
